@@felicitycreatesitallfound 8oz of glow fabric paint and i have about 84oz of yarn 😭 definitely gonna need more paint i think but i might be able to get 14-21oz done with 8
@lisam2808 you are so WELCOME! Let me know how it works for you! I'm about to start making some for this year. I'll be posting videos if I find any better methods or updates too. I despise that tiny expensive yarn! #homemadealltheway
Have you done rhis process with colors? Did it turn out the same? You also said there is some texture, is it scratchy, or can it be used for wearables?
Colors as in colored acrylic? Or colored yarn? It's definitely a crunchy scratchy texture. After winding it into a ball it does soften it a little. It can totally be put thru the washer and dryer and still works!
I wonder if it would work if a colored ball of acrylic yarn was soaked with this same acrylic glow in the dark craft paint? like a ball of super saver green and soak it the same way?
@felicitycreatesitall I wet the acrylic yarn let it set for 2 hours then I strain it a bit and then added the acrylic glow in the dark paint with a little bit of water and let it soak for maybe 5hours and I let it dry in the sun for a few hours it was still wet so I air dry it indoors for 1 day and it was completely dry but the texture is crunchy.
Did you wring it out really good before having it set to dry? My guess is maybe you used too much paint and not enough water. Id suggest watching my full video and see if you still have the same problem. I have heard that fabric softener can help it however I haven't personally tried it since we don't use that in my house
@felicitycreatesitall awesome thank you so much for the fast reply!! 😀 I started a blanket with glow in the dark yarn and it is expensive and you don't get much yarn so I need an alternative. Thank you for the video definitely giving it a try. Just got back from Wal-Mart now.
I have another question for you what would you recommend to use to get the texture out of the yarn after it dries I am trying to make a blanket and I need it to soften back up? Also have you tried this with other types of yarn or is it specifically for acrylic yarn and acrylic paint?
@shannonmcdaniel1425 hey again :) I just washed mine with my regular soap in the washer and a dryer sheet with our normal laundry and it definitely softened em up. I read that some fabric softener should also help however we don't normally use that so I have not tried it personally. I haven't tried it on any other yarn. When I did my research, I found out that since acrylic yarn is plastic and acrylic paint is plastic that those two would work together best. I'm not sure about other types of yarns.
i searched high and low for a video just like this! thank you so much! 🦋
You are 100% welcome! Let me know how it works for u!
So glad I found this lol, I was trying a project with glow in the dark paint like this. Hope it works for fabric too loll
@@Motivation--Zero ooo so welcome! Ya come back and let me know! I haven't tried it with fabric
Wow!😮
Cool, right?!
This is cool to see have you used cotton yarn this way? I can't use acrylic yarn.
@@Garrett890 I have not tried it with cotton
Bro just came across this. LOVE this that's cool
@@talkingpurplecamera heck ya! Thanks! I just started this year's round. Made a little tweak and hoping the glowing comes out better

@skateboardb5063 I've only tried with one skein per paint bath so I'm not sure how well it'd work on multiple skeins

This is very cool. Does it stay after washing?
I've heard a lot of dyes use an acid to set it so the dye doesnt run.
Thank you! I put one thru the wash and dryer in a garment bag and it glowed just fine! No actual dyes were used. Just acrylic paint.

I did try that! It didn't work so well. It looked great on camera but in reel life It was more of a dim glow than a bright glowing.

Will this work for off-white yarn?
@AlyMas8 hmmm I would think purhaps. I tried it on full on orange yarn and it worked but not that well.
I painted my acrylic yarn but it's a little crunchy if I add a little softener would that help? Or just soak it again?
@DaceDaisy just for clarification, do you mean you crocheted something then use a paint brush and to paint on it with glow paint?
@felicitycreatesitall I wet the acrylic yarn let it set for 2 hours then I strain it a bit and then added the acrylic glow in the dark paint with a little bit of water and let it soak for maybe 5hours and I let it dry in the sun for a few hours it was still wet so I air dry it indoors for 1 day and it was completely dry but the texture is crunchy.
I haven't crochet it yet

Have you ever dyed yarn with a highlighter?
Oh interesting. I have not. Have u?
Does it wash out in the washing machine when you wash it
When I tested it, it did not! Worked just fine :)

@shannonmcdaniel1425 I hope it works for you! That was almost my same issue with the store bought stuff. Too thin!
