I know what you mean Molon, my parents brought me to NJ back in the 80s from NYC when NYC was trash, now NYC is for the rich and NJ is still trashy or trashier. So its become obvious to me, that NJ has been spiraling downwards since the 60s, I mean they can't even get marijuana legislation they can agree on because they are just trying to implement a state-cartel version of legal weed and screw the little guy, but NJ NORML won't let them pass it. Every major city in NJ is filthy and an eye-sore. My family and I are in the process of moving to Texas. By the way though, if you read the comments on here, its rather discouraging to move to or from anywhere. So I am only looking for level-headed family oriented responses, lets pretend our children are in the room here, if you read many of the comments below, sheesh. I don't get it. Why all the anger issues? Does Texas have good jobs and plenty of them? is it a family-oriented place? Do they have laws that are not trying to screw over the little guy? I mean you would think the average person would gravitate towards that. Don't understand the insults towards Texans or Californians. I mean, California has become a place for the super wealthy, so normal red-blooded Americans want to leave, makes sense to me. And the most discouraging, are the "commie" comments, seriously folks? Who is writing these comments, a 63 year old baby boomer from the McCarthyite era? "commie" no longer has the sting you think it does sir, please enjoy your retirement. If you are a millennial making these comments, dude, you got issues, stop typing.

I'm a fifth generation Texan, and I moved to California as soon as I could. I was harassed by police in Austin and so many other places that I cannot name them all. One of the worst places is Fort Stockton. After I moved to California and had California plates and drove back to visit my relatives in Texas, I got stopped by the Fort Stockton police because I did not stop at a Yield sign when I was getting back on the freeway. The police made me go to a 7-11 ATM to get cash and pay a fine or go directly to jail. AfterT my parents died, I have only been back to Texas once in six years. If my relatives want to see me, they can visit me in California, where I feel safe.

Your points are well taken. I've lived around Texas most of my life. There are three points about Texas drivers. 1) The majority of the really poor ones live in and around Houston. There are not great ones in other places, but the worst are in and around Houston. Texans know this and now you do to. 2) Drive Friendly is a very good idea because the simple fact is that alot of Texans drive with guns in their Truck/Cars. I had a friend with a broad sense of humor and he was shot and killed by a fellow Texan driver. 3) Alot of Texans drive like they own the highway. Driving at or below the speed limit in the fast lane ignoring that many people are passing you on the right is their God Given Right and you need to have patience in dealing with them. Slow moving Semis in the right lane and a cowboy in a pickup truck/Cadillac doing the speed limit on cruise control in the left lane can truly test your patience if you have a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I want to commend you and your videos. You are very bright and perseptive. You have both tact and bluntness while expressing your opinion. You state facts in a way that I find inoffensive even if I don't actually agree with you. I stumbled onto one of your videos this morning and I've watched several this afternoon. I've hit the like button and I'm looking forward to more of your work.

Missed a few key issues imo.
    1) The immense sprawl in the state is a significant issue. In the state’s major metro areas, development keeps expanding outward, with office parks being built in the suburbs, and the exurbs being pushed out further and further leading to longer and longer commutes.
    2) The abundance of toll roads, which are often the only option of transport to work due to fewer freeways, makes commuting costly and you still have to endure slow traffic while paying tolls.
    3) Another thing which could be an issue is the largeness of the state. I think part of Texans’ devotion to Texas stems from the fact that people never leave Texas. Road tripping anywhere out of Texas can be a huge inconvenience since it usually takes an entire day to get out of the state.
    4) flatness/lack of nature- while there are some nice areas like the hill country and the mountainous areas out in the far west, for the most part Texas is plain and flat, nature-wise. While this may not matter for many people, this matters for some.
I think these could be more of an issue than cowboy hats etc. unless you’re moving way out in the country that is :)

I grew up in Houston, and then I lived for 15 years in New York City- Manhattan, 5 years in Los Angeles, 6 years in China, 2 years in Miami, then back to Texas- to Austin, where I live now. I didn’t realize how ridiculous Texas state pride was until I moved back. You go into the HEB, which is the most popular supermarket in the state, and you’ll see aisles with Texas-shaped plates and bowls and utensils... aprons with Texas on them, oven mitts with Texas on them, dish towels... any kind of kitchen or barbecuing paraphernalia with Texas on them... lawn furniture with Texas on it… I moved here from Miami and the first thing I thought at the supermarket was, “I didn’t see stuff shaped like Florida when I’d do my supermarket shopping at Publix.” The only thing I remember seeing with Florida on it were beach towels. Same thing I lived in California. Also, I love what you say about the trucks. I know it shouldn’t annoy me, what business is it of mine what other people drive, but I’m so sick of seeing the huge trucks everywhere. They never have anything in the back to carry. So why does everybody have a truck when the trucks are always empty in the back? And the trucks are so ridiculously huge. Every time I see a guy driving a huge truck, the first thing I think is that he must have a very small penis. And yes, people here are appallingly fat. You especially realize that after living in Florida, California, New York and China. I think the people who have lived here all their lives are used to it and don’t really notice it that much.

I listened to the list and all but two were valid, IMO. (see my first two)
    1. Aggressive drivers - Some counties, like Harris (Houston), are the most dangerous for bicyclists and pedestrians.
Dash cams should be standard on cars.
    2. Heat - Hot and humid 3/4 of the year.
    3. Flood prone - Some areas, particularly Houston, flood after day or so of rain. May not seem abnormal but its frequent. Surprised car snorkels aren't seen on a lot more cars.
    4. Frequent loss of electricity during storms - electricity goes on off a lot during storms.
    5. Traveling rings of burglars - subdivisions, dealerships, and complexes are regularly picked. Car alarms with noise and motion sensors should be standard. And, there are some people that still leave valuables in their vehicles without alarms (that encourage burglars).
    6. No effective mass transit and too widespread and congested.
Its probably like this almost anywhere. But, you can have a great time. Especially if you know these in advance and are prepared.

Also, Texas might be red but every major city is BLUE. I'm from Dallas. It's turning into a shit hole, same with Austin. Highest murder rate in 2019 that it's seen in decades, homelessness on the rise, taxes going up every year. Texas has the worst healthcare in the nation, insurance rates are some of the highest.
Texas isn't what it used to be 10 years ago. Rent is skyrocketing, you're not renting a GOOD place for under 1200/month. Houses near Dallas easy go for 250k+ now.

I'm a native New Orleanian, but I moved to Texas in 1998, and I've never looked back. I love Texas, and I can't really imagine living anywhere else. Most people are friendly and willing to give you the shirt off their back. Your list is spot on though! I think some of the obesity problem comes because it's just so friggin' hot most of the year, people prefer to stay inside in the nice A/C...and there is SO MUCH GOOD FOOD!! I really liked the video.

As a native Texan who's lived here his whole life and never owned boots or a cowboy hat I can tell you from personal experience, it is impossible to avoid at least knowing someone who has both of those.

Texas humidity is horrible, worse than the heat. And the Rio Grande Valley should be on the list.
