I have to say, as a single mother, with a high functioning autistic son with anxiety and depression, So Big So Small was so overwhelming. It felt like they wrote my exact life with my son, who is now 17. It's an odd kind of thing, too, because I personally have crippling anxiety and depression, and a lot of self esteem issues, and I relate so strongly to Evan and his mom, equally. I feel like those characters are me, and I am them. It's written so amazingly well that so many people really do have that sense of identity with it. It's beautiful.
I seriously thought he studied people with extreme social anxiety..... He developed those gestures and the way he talks all from nothing? How is that even possible.... The ticks are so specific, detailed, and natural jeeezz
Cocoaron K well he does have his own issues with anxiety (has spoken about them, does see a therapist, does need to take medication to fly). He also has stated that some of his physical activity for Evan came from thinking about flying.
It makes it more authentic. Instead of him giving Evan someone else’s ticks he has his own. It makes it more real and authentic. It’s not Ben playing Evan being someone else it’s just Ben bring him to life and I love that
I didn't like the hosts. That woman spoiled that the secret of their relationship got out and they both acted like they knew more about it than the cast. The cast was great as always though!💖
I LOVE BEN PLATT!!! He is so good! I wish I could have seen Dear Evan Hansen while Ben was still in it! Now it’s too late and if I ever do get to see it, I won’t get BEN! I love him so much and he is so talented and beautiful and such a good person. I would love to meet him! 😄😃😀😁☺️😊🙂😅😛😍
Broadway musical theater gets blessed with a perfect marriage of talent, character and performance once or at most twice in any given generation. Its incredibly rare. Ben Platt and Evan Hansen is one of those marriages. Its up there with Zero Mostel as Tevye, or Merman as Mama Rose, or Christine Ebersole as Little Edie, or Yul Brynner as the King. The original creation of the character leaves such an indelible mark on the imagination, it becomes very hard to separate them. It makes life complicated for future actors trying to re-envision the role and tailor it to their skillset. But its virtually impossible for the actor to get that lucky again. These men and women went on to do great work in other vehicles, and they extended their careers and tested their creative juices after they 'divorced' from these roles, but never again were they able to find such a perfect match again. Its rare enough to get one role like this, but to expect another is pushing the boundaries of fate too far.
This interview is fantastic, and the way Ben talked about whether or not he developed his character with the autism spectrum in mind warms my little autistic heart! Him taking care to make sure that everyone can see a piece of themselves in Evan is so amazing. What I didn't like, however, is the host immediately spoiling it by going "we're ALL on the spectrum", because no, not everyone is. The spectrum part of it is to make it clear that everyone with the diagnosis is different, not for neurotypicals to go "everyone's a little bit autistic". You either are or you're not, and I wish the hosts would have read up on the diagnosis and the proper way of discussing it before throwing that question out to Ben. But I really applaud Ben for handling it well and being respectful.
Today I was casually driving in my car belting You Will Be Found and spontaneously bursted into tears. So yeah. That's the impact of Dear Evan Hansen and it's profound.
for how much she acted like she knew more about the musical than the actors- the interviewer should've at least known the song's not called "wave through the window" like c'mon i-
Me: i soo want to watch this and it's coming to london! Me also: it was suicide and inuendos and your 12 it will be too awkward Me: true....but i like the musical.... hmmm.....
@@shhdhdhd-t1t What about Dead Girl Walking from Heathers. Also, as someone who did Sincerely Me for Karoake in front of my parents, it's okay as long as you're at least 16.

Cocoaron K I have social anxiety and while it's not as extreme as Evan's, this musical describes my emotions and that's why I love it so much

Great video~! Subscribed.
hard to understand why Ben is not doing 'west side story' for spielberg. when Big Ben sang 'somewhere' at the Grammy's, I sobbed.
The three dislikes are 3 people who were mad at the ending lmao

Thats the same problem I have, I want to go see it when it comes but the awkwardness of seeing it with parents...
