    Thanks so much, I used the dumbbell a little untraditionally to show the min and max salary range of teachers in my area from varying sources.

    Thank you, Mynda. So many good ideas in your videos, so many files to download (not a bad thing) !
    To me, the X-axis labels in both the dot-plot and dumbbell charts are the only chart elements that one might consider cluttered at all. Was there a particular reason for you to keep the intervals at $50M, or would intervals at $100M be just as effective?

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  4 года назад

      Thanks, James :-) No reason for the scale on the X axis. I simply let Excel decide based on the data.

    Question: Is that also a way to make "Time Line Charts" using dates and dates (needed for marketing activities i.e.)?
    Or is there a better way for doing that?

    Hi Mynda, thank you so much for putting up this video, it really helped me a lot. I have one question, what if I have three series (2010, 2019, and 2020) and the newest series value is lower than the earliest series (2020

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  2 года назад

      Hi Bianca, if you download the Excel file you'll see the solution if you have a scenario where the current year is lower than the previous year.

  • @brannandoyle8772

    Hi Mynda @MyOnlineTrainingHub -- this is a phenomenal video, you walk through and explain everything so well! I had been using Tableau to kick out these types of charts for years, but it's so helpful to know that I can do it much quicker in Excel instead :)
    Just ONE question that I'm struggling with -- if I want to have the Department Names anchored along the left side of the chart (in other words, to the left of where the Y-axis ticks would be) -- how do I do this? Is this possible? This would look better on some of my data compared to having the department names floating out in the scatter plot along with the data points

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  2 года назад +1

      Glad you liked it, Brannan! You can make the department names the vertical axis labels instead of inserting them as labels.

    • @brannandoyle8772

      @@MyOnlineTrainingHub Hey Mynda, gotcha yep that makes sense -- I haven't been able to figure out how to do that though. I have to keep the "Spacing" column as the Y-axis (right?) so that the dots will display in the correct vertical rows ... so how do I use the Department Name field as the y-axis labels while also keeping the Spacing field? Any specifics would be greatly appreciated!!

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  2 года назад

      You can try this technique: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-chart-vertical-axis-text-labels
      Or you could add another series at zero (or the starting point of your horizontal axis) that has vertical values that match the spacing and then add labels to that series.

    • @JayDeSart
      @JayDeSart Год назад

      @@MyOnlineTrainingHub This very last suggestion (adding another series) is now my go to move to "trick" Excel into making the Axis Labels be whatever I want them to be. Previously I was just typing in textboxes and it was pretty tedious getting them all lined up properly, especially if I had a lot of "departments." But this is amazingly simple. Thanks!

    I'm making a pre-post dot plot table and I got to your error bar portion where you say to switch to the x-axis (horizontal). I have excel for mac and they only allow me to edit the vertical error bar. Do you have any ideas on how to edit horizontal error bars in the mac version of excel?

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub

At the moment I have a sort of a Dashboard where I summerize everything by refering to the cells in the sheets and it ia a nightmar for me to update it every month as I get morre and more sheets every month.
    The sheets them self contains entreies of buy and sell and som calculation of different kinds so the change every time a buy that stock.
    I have looked at to your videos concer power query, one where you transform all the sheets in to one tabel and one where you link the sheets to a tabel. Which method would you use if you where me?
