There could be simple wrong interpretations. But BR Chopra did an excellent service to India with the show. We should never undermine his contribution.
Neither is her interpretation real. She and the host outright hate Karna and are hardcore praising arjun Draupadi. Karna in Mahabharat is shown as a positive character only. Nothing is going to change it.

Solicited by suitors he always said, "I give" but never the words "I have not!" The righteous always regarded him as a righteous person."" -Karna Parva, Section-94, Vyasa Mahabharat. Also her claim that Karna wasn't low caste or casteism didn't exist just to belittle his humiliations are also false. Karna was insulted for his caste in many places, once he even tells Bhishma not to insult him as 'low born' since he has always followed practises or Kshatriyas alone. All in all, it's just another dumb writer with her own interpretation. Not just this, there are also places where Pandavas actions were extremely questionable like Arjun burning Khandiva forest. In actual epic it was basically a genocide of all the innocent naga people and animals in the forest but somehow we aren't supposed to question it. Any person with two brain cells would be shocked at the description of the genocide mentioned in the text but we are still supposed to accept unquestionably like abrahamic faith. She also spoke as if Karna abandoned Duryodhan with gandharvas while in reality Karna destroyed half the Gandharva army and was overcome with illusion, all his weapons and chariot was destroyed, etc. That's when he retreated and the so called gandharvas were themselves sent by Arjuna's father Indra to humiliate Kauravas and protect Pandavas. Arjun also did the same thing when Dwarka robbers attacked but she wouldn't mention that. I would only suggest, read actual epic. You will find such RUclips channels or authors everywhere. This particular author even seems to totally take her knowledge from Quora. She also said Satyaki defeated Karna but it never happened. As per BORI CE, on 14th day Karna made Satyaki satyaki chariotless. Then the latter got on lord Krishna's celestial chariot and he inturn made Karna chariotless, then Satyaki defeated other kaurav warriors who came there. Karna then got on a new chariot and resumed his fight with Satyaki, how is this defeat? Karna made satyaki chariotless and Satyaki did the same for Karna. These are just some small refutations of her rants against Karna. Even Arjun was defeated by many. Victory and defeat is not constant in war. That's why Mahabharat is realistic but this author has made it into Bollywood masala flick where one hero is undefeated and rest are all villains or side characters.

Very well explained and clarified, how its shown in TV series its very different. In the "Suryaputra Karna" series, Arjuna's character is portrayed as less powerful in battle, while the show predominantly highlights Karna's greatness as a warrior.
Agree and people rather than reading real puranas they more believe serials and portray Karn as hero and Arjun as a loser 🤦🤦I was not sure bt always confused about his character and was more inclined towards Arjun... ❤️

What a podcast it was, Amiji has true passion for Indian vedic history and her research enlightens people like me I would like to thank the host as he had not interrupted her during the podcast. Great idea - there are Mahabharata books for kids which are fully illustrated and available. One of them is sold by Ramakrishna Matha (you can find them online under the title' Pictorial Mahabharata' ) and another is sold by Amar Chitra Katha. Of course, these editions will vary in terms of the style, story telling, visuals and content. So would love Ami ji to create her own version which is perhaps more authentic and keeping in line with the original version.

If Karna was nothing infront of Arjuna then why 1- Kunti asked him to spare her son's life . 2- Indra asked him to give his kavach and kundal And if he was not ready to gain brahmastra knowledge then why Parshuram gave him that knowledge . Everyone should learn about a story narrated to Yuddhisthir in Van Parva about Nishad King Nal and his romantic adventures with the Vidarbha Kingdom princess Damyanti and his friendship with king Rituparna of Ayodhya who was an ancestor of Shree Ram to know if at all there was any birth based "discrimination" against this Nishad tribe.
@@jojosoni Here they distinguish between nishaad (निषाद) and nishadha (निषध). Nishadha seems to have been a kingdom. Nishaad is a forest dweller/ Hunter tribe sort of. Ekalavya was a nishaad but nala was from Nishadha kingdom. They may however have correlation. See Kingdoms participating in the Mahabharata war nishaad on the Pandava side but nishadha on the Kaurava side.

@@abhimannukumarsingh8068 It wasn't Max Muller working by himself, we have to accept that medieval Hindus, particularly Brahmins are major cause of downfall. Just to get coveted jobs in Islamist n subsequently British states it's the Hindu Brahmins that forced changed the concept of Varna to mean caste. These Islamist Brahmins also reduced women to nothing.

The earliest “vedantic” Acharya who gave utmost importance to the Mahabharata was Acharya Madhva through his magnum opus “Mahabharata Tatparya Nirnaya”: Not just the Mahabharata itself but each dimension (or Atleast most) are already discussed in the Tatparya Nirnaya of Acharya Madhva especially in chapter 1 and chapter 2. Chapter 1 addresses the essence of the Vedas, extols the greatness of Rishi Vyasa Chapter 2 addresses the adulteration / hijacking of the Mahabharata back in 13th century itself Chapter 2 specifically highlights the 6 types of adulteration (decimation , interpolation , misinterpretation , error while copying / printing errors , grammatical ignorance and finally deliberate agenda based subversion ) Chapter 2 also extols the greatness of the Bharata, it’s comparison with the Vedas in essence , the role of Rishi Vyasa and so on Chapter 2 portrays how the Bharata is perfectly in line with the Vedas thereby giving the Vedas its due significance ! It also extols the greatness of the Bharata through the lens of the Puranas . The Acharya says that Bharata acts as a magnifying lens which exemplifies the ideas of the Vedas through relatable analogies and kathas which bear an impact on the reader at all levels . Chapter 2, Acharya mentions that he travelled across Bharat to find copies of the grantha , compared them , made observations , highlighted the 6 errors and then began his commentary. Chapter 3 onwards highlights how Bharata is an encapsulation of everything that one can conceive and perceive through the analogies presented in the Bharata. In a supplementary text (Yamaka Bharatam) : The Acharya highlights the importance of the letter “Bha” to India ! He writes a shloka with only the letter “Bha” repeated in the 4 padas! The commentary expounds the different meanings of this word “Bha” with its combinations and so on . Throughout he draws parallel to the Ramayana and the Bharata wrt the characters and so on Also , the work literally exposes the hypocrisy of so called Mahabharata Serials of the day : Over emphasis on Karna Under emphasis on Bhima Propaganda of Brahminical fascism through misinterpretation of the Ekalavya story Baseless sympathy on Duryodhana Allegations of fraud on Krishna Allegations of Draupadi having 5 husbands Conflict of karma ( violence - non violence ) Allegations on the difference between Vedic way of life and Pauranic way of life (the deities and gods etc) And more To all these , he gives his answers through critical evaluation and elucidation of the spirit of Bharata! These are just some aspects , throughout the work historical , etymological , numerological and philosophical nuances are highlighted by the Acharya !
A lot of her "arguments" are from her own incredulity or notion of how things should have happened. Karna refusing to participate because of an insult is not arrogance, it is usual human reaction for a proud man. Achilles refuses to fight for his king because of the same reason. I like your analysis and also of Karn . But saying Karn always wanted to be a danveer so that he gave his kavach and kundals is a wrong assumption . Nobody wants to give daan to be called a danveer . It was his natural instinct and Krishna also appreciated his danveerta because being a danveer was natural for him it came on its own not to show anybody that he was biggest donor.

Instead of contantly bringing up the work of BR Chopra or other English writers, the host should have read Ami's version carefully and brought up topics from there. It was kind of a bummer how it started with discouraging what other interpreted out of the book, I'm sure her work is more than just debunking other people's version. Also her claim that Karna wasn't low caste or casteism didn't exist just to belittle his humiliations are also false. Karna was insulted for his caste in many places, once he even tells Bhishma not to insult him as 'low born' since he has always followed practises or Kshatriyas alone. All in all, it's just another dumb writer with her own interpretation.
Not just this, there are also places where Pandavas actions were extremely questionable like Arjun burning Khandiva forest. In actual epic it was basically a genocide of all the innocent naga people and animals in the forest but somehow we aren't supposed to question it. Any person with two brain cells would be shocked at the description of the genocide mentioned in the text but we are still supposed to accept unquestionably like abrahamic faith.
She also spoke as if Karna abandoned Duryodhan with gandharvas while in reality Karna destroyed half the Gandharva army and was overcome with illusion, all his weapons and chariot was destroyed, etc. That's when he retreated and the so called gandharvas were themselves sent by Arjuna's father Indra to humiliate Kauravas and protect Pandavas. Arjun also did the same thing when Dwarka robbers attacked but she wouldn't mention that.
I would only suggest, read actual epic. You will find such RUclips channels or authors everywhere. This particular author even seems to totally take her knowledge from Quora.
She also said Satyaki defeated Karna but it never happened. As per BORI CE, on 14th day Karna made Satyaki satyaki chariotless. Then the latter got on lord Krishna's celestial chariot and he inturn made Karna chariotless, then Satyaki defeated other kaurav warriors who came there. Karna then got on a new chariot and resumed his fight with Satyaki, how is this defeat? Karna made satyaki chariotless and Satyaki did the same for Karna. These are just some small refutations of her rants against Karna.
Even Arjun was defeated by many. Victory and defeat is not constant in war. That's why Mahabharat is realistic but this author has made it into Bollywood masala flick where one hero is undefeated and rest are all villains or side characters.

Very well explained and clarified, how its shown in TV series its very different. In the "Suryaputra Karna" series, Arjuna's character is portrayed as less powerful in battle, while the show predominantly highlights Karna's greatness as a warrior.

Great idea - there are Mahabharata books for kids which are fully illustrated and available. One of them is sold by Ramakrishna Matha (you can find them online under the title' Pictorial Mahabharata' ) and another is sold by Amar Chitra Katha. Of course, these editions will vary in terms of the style, story telling, visuals and content. So would love Ami ji to create her own version which is perhaps more authentic and keeping in line with the original version.

1- Kunti asked him to spare her son's life .
2- Indra asked him to give his kavach and kundal

@@jojosoni Here they distinguish between nishaad (निषाद) and nishadha (निषध). Nishadha seems to have been a kingdom. Nishaad is a forest dweller/ Hunter tribe sort of. Ekalavya was a nishaad but nala was from Nishadha kingdom. They may however have correlation. See Kingdoms participating in the Mahabharata war nishaad on the Pandava side but nishadha on the Kaurava side.

Just to get coveted jobs in Islamist n subsequently British states it's the Hindu Brahmins that forced changed the concept of Varna to mean caste. These Islamist Brahmins also reduced women to nothing.

Dropadi in her past life ,desired for the husband of various qualities, capabilities and virtues which were contradictory to each other and can’t be in possession of a single man so she had to marry 5 Pandavas .
Similarly if we have two intense desires, one we wish to be a king and another a hermit or saint to enjoy the peace and tranquility then in next birth we will have two lives, one king and another hermit.
This is mentioned in Indian scriptures.

Krishna was considered as an antagonist in Vedavyasa Mahabharata...why didn't you tell about his character????It's so sad that TV serials are whitewashing Krishna and Raavan's bad deeds and showing them in a goodlight .....Even BR Chopra showed some negativity of Krishna but not fully.....same Raavan's character is also shown as a Mahagyaani and his negativity is also shown not fully but very less....but after BR chopra ....whichever serial was made ...not a single serial showed Krishna's true evil character.....

@Sid Patankar Go and Read Mahabharata instead of barking .....Krishnaism had been spread by some writers like Mirabai and Surdas in 14th century...before that he was not worshipped and not that popular...he was seen as an antagonist .... When Vedavyasa had written the Mahabharata...its heroes were Karna and Yuddhisthira.

I think distortions happen because people in general don't like thought provoking narratives; which these epics are; but they want your regular variety "masala" narrative with all sorts of modern drama.

Also to note , the role of Indic commentators on the Mahabharata is something that is under emphasised !
The earliest “vedantic” Acharya who gave utmost importance to the Mahabharata was Acharya Madhva through his magnum opus “Mahabharata Tatparya Nirnaya”:
Not just the Mahabharata itself but each dimension (or Atleast most) are already discussed in the Tatparya Nirnaya of Acharya Madhva especially in chapter 1 and chapter 2.
Chapter 1 addresses the essence of the Vedas, extols the greatness of Rishi Vyasa
Chapter 2 addresses the adulteration / hijacking of the Mahabharata back in 13th century itself
Chapter 2 specifically highlights the 6 types of adulteration (decimation , interpolation , misinterpretation , error while copying / printing errors , grammatical ignorance and finally deliberate agenda based subversion )
Chapter 2 also extols the greatness of the Bharata, it’s comparison with the Vedas in essence , the role of Rishi Vyasa and so on
Chapter 2 portrays how the Bharata is perfectly in line with the Vedas thereby giving the Vedas its due significance ! It also extols the greatness of the Bharata through the lens of the Puranas . The Acharya says that Bharata acts as a magnifying lens which exemplifies the ideas of the Vedas through relatable analogies and kathas which bear an impact on the reader at all levels .
Chapter 2, Acharya mentions that he travelled across Bharat to find copies of the grantha , compared them , made observations , highlighted the 6 errors and then began his commentary.
Chapter 3 onwards highlights how Bharata is an encapsulation of everything that one can conceive and perceive through the analogies presented in the Bharata.
In a supplementary text (Yamaka Bharatam) : The Acharya highlights the importance of the letter “Bha” to India ! He writes a shloka with only the letter “Bha” repeated in the 4 padas! The commentary expounds the different meanings of this word “Bha” with its combinations and so on .
Throughout he draws parallel to the Ramayana and the Bharata wrt the characters and so on
Also , the work literally exposes the hypocrisy of so called Mahabharata Serials of the day :
Over emphasis on Karna
Under emphasis on Bhima
Propaganda of Brahminical fascism through misinterpretation of the Ekalavya story
Baseless sympathy on Duryodhana
Allegations of fraud on Krishna
Allegations of Draupadi having 5 husbands
Conflict of karma ( violence - non violence )
Allegations on the difference between Vedic way of life and Pauranic way of life (the deities and gods etc)
And more
To all these , he gives his answers through critical evaluation and elucidation of the spirit of Bharata!
These are just some aspects , throughout the work historical , etymological , numerological and philosophical nuances are highlighted by the Acharya !

Karna refusing to participate because of an insult is not arrogance, it is usual human reaction for a proud man. Achilles refuses to fight for his king because of the same reason. That is not a overreaction!

I like your analysis and also of Karn . But saying Karn always wanted to be a danveer so that he gave his kavach and kundals is a wrong assumption . Nobody wants to give daan to be called a danveer . It was his natural instinct and Krishna also appreciated his danveerta because being a danveer was natural for him it came on its own not to show anybody that he was biggest donor.

Instead of contantly bringing up the work of BR Chopra or other English writers, the host should have read Ami's version carefully and brought up topics from there. It was kind of a bummer how it started with discouraging what other interpreted out of the book, I'm sure her work is more than just debunking other people's version. I loved how patiently she listened to questions and explained them.
