The fact that they paid more than $20,000 for those crappy shoes tells you all you need to know. But someone please tell me what the benefits of walking barefoot might be, particularly on city sidewalks.
Walking barefoot is better for your body. Lets you open your toes and feel the terrain and better develop your locomotion chain. But yeah, in a city they should definitely be looking into frog shoes or similar instead of true barefoot. Long distance on concrete is also bad for you, and there could be nasties on the concrete they can't see
Your bare feet keep you “grounded”. There is OUTSTANDING health improvements in doing so. ** ON THE BARE GROUND** All they are getting from going without souls in concrete is dirty feet, and a serious risk of infection.

There are benefits. Walking barefoot allows the toes to splay which gives you more balance. I have awful balance so you can catch me barefoot a lot whenever I can. Being barefoot or wearing shoes with larger toe boxes also helps with bunions and making sure they don’t form. Most shoe companies don’t care about the health of your feet but they should.
All of a sudden a comment section of judgemental troglodytes gaslighting people doing something they enjoy that has many proven health benefits and doesn't affect others lives or hurt them in any way is making Idiocracy look like a documentary. And this is an absolute 100% fact. Totally agree this is cringe. That said, walking barefoot hurts no one but the person doing it. It doesn’t bring in more germs, the same germs and drug are on the soles of shoes. @@toobyy4554Yes, it's totally their decision if they want to ruin $20,000 worth of shoes, by ripping out the bottoms, just so they can walk around in public, like a couple of insane people, IMO, they're looking forward to getting challenged because it's totally obvious (and they know it) that they're only wearing the top parts of their shoes. At the same time, it's s also totally up to the business owners or store management to tell them to leave when they find out that theyre actually walking around barefooted..
The bigger question is... If walking barefoot is so important to them, then why do they have shoes? Or $20k worth of shoes. If it's a recent decision, donate the shoes.
Walking barefoot has more benefits than people actually know. Other than grounding it allows your foot to bend properly the sandal or show doesn’t allow your foot to do. This actually causes a lot of hidden problems.
It's called "grounding." It's good to walk around the yard with no shoes on, but I draw the line out in public. Sidewalks and streets that people spit, urinate and deficate on doesn't sound appealing to me.
I'm originally from Indonesia, and so many people especially in the rural areas walk barefoot because they cannot afford buying shoes. Children walk barefoot to school because their shoes were torn from overuse and their parents were so poor to keep buying shoes for a growing child.. And these people intentionally cut a hole in their shoes.. 🤡
You missed it on this one, Benny. We should all endeavor to be barefoot literally as much as possible. I run into this issue every time I go in public. I want my family and I to be barefoot and constantly ground and connect with the earth but most places won’t let you go barefoot. This is honestly pretty genius. I don’t know why it has to be that way because shoes touch the same ground that feet would so it doesn’t even make sense but it is what it is.
I said something similar. I think it's just that this is the way it has always been done and everyone thinks you are disgusting if you talk about walking around without shoes on. They think it's so dirty and gross... But your hands have more germs than your feet do after touching doorknobs, railings, and every surface imaginable... And we actually eat with our hands! You don't eat with your feet. So what's the issue as long as you wash your feet later? Honestly the only reason why this may not be a great idea is because you could easily hurt your feet by stepping on glass or hurting yourself.. Which is the reason I personally wouldn't want to do this... And I agree with people on that front. For that reason alone this may not be the smartest idea but as far as the germ factor goes or everyone saying this is "disgusting" they don't want to be labeled a pariah for daring to think outside the box.
@@NeurodiverJENNt I’ve made that same argument… people maybe wash their hands a few times or so a day but they touch literally everything! I'm 30 and definitely not. If I am generous with my spending habits on shoes it's 5000 at most. That is assuming I am using roughly $150 on shoes a year since that is what the last pair of winter boots cost and I use my shoes until they're spent. I have several pairs on rotation right now and some of them are 5 years old.
I lost 3 toenails from an infection as a child when I walked through a hospital waiting room. Go barefoot outside on the grass or sand, not in heavily trafficked areas like shopping centres and such.
Come on guys... this seems like a silly thing to focus on. let's maybe cut them some slack. Of all the crazy things we see here in the US, this isn't very high on the list. They aren't even really hurting anyone at all either. I am at least willing to admit that the idea itself is genuinely a little cool.
They could just get Xero shoes? Also, having worked in retail for years, you don’t want to walk barefoot on the floors, trust me. I was so upset seeing parents let their toddlers do that. We were always cleaning up broken glass, spilled Starbucks drinks, vomit, poop from untrained “service” dogs, occasional untrained humans, occasional blood from slip and falls/injuries. Retail floors are disgusting, as well as those sidewalks. 🤮
Well said, you covered all the nasty shit on the city ground. We could add the chemicals to clean the retail stores and the oil in the parking lots. You mentioned Xero shoes. Good call. You can spread your toes in those instead of these people slicing away the soles of their shoes, only to scrunch and compress their dirty feet.
Grounding is phenomenally good for our body however, walking all around cities barefoot is counterintuitive. Not to mention all the gross, probable carcinogens you are absorbing. Theres just some places, most places, where you shouldn't be barefoot at.
True. I am fine with being barefoot. I don’t like shoes. Most are not made properly and too expensive. Sandals make sense. Been around for thousands of years.
Walking around the streets and public businesses barefoot is incredibly disgusting and stupid. They find out when they step on the wrong thing. Play Stupid Games and Win Stupid Prizes.
The reason you can’t walk barefoot in most stores (specifically restaurants), is because stores deem it to be a health and safety hazard (in case you slip). I walk barefoot SOMETIMES around my property. But that’s as far as it goes lol
I think shoes make people more likely to slip and fall, but I'm still not leaving home without wearing them. I'm always barefoot inside my home, but never outside.
I grew up barefoot in summers. But you do not go barefoot in towns, cities, stores, restaurants or any other public places. It’s a massive health hazard. You have no idea where other people have been walking before walking through public places. I’ve personally watched people working in landfills, water treatment facilities and other very nasty places then walk into public spaces wearing the very same shoes and clothes. They don’t think a second thought about the contamination they are carrying around on their clothes and spreading everywhere they go. I will never go barefoot in public spaces because of that.
I have 1 pair of work boots, 1 pair of tennis shoes, 1 pair of hiking shoes, and 1 pair of flip flops. I feel that is too many. What do you do with $20k worth of shoes? I see people all the time crying about how they can’t afford a home. Maybe their shoe collection is the reason.

Love and light to u .
I worked at PetSmart and this one guy always came in barefoot. Grossed me out! You know how many times I cleaned up dog shit, diarrhea, and pee off those floors… daily! Sometimes multiple times a day. And not with a mop. Just paper towels and a disinfectant spray. Don’t go barefoot in public.
Ironically, as a guy who wears "minimalist 'barefoot' shoes", mainly in the gym, the point of them is to remove the restrictive toebox and to be able to splay out the toes, help with neuromas, strength and restoring range of movement of toes and foot muscle and offer a little protection from harsh surfaces (though I still refuse to run on concrete with these shoes, grass, soft soil, well cushioned treadmill yes) ...they have kept that restricting feature which still squishes your feet and toes and also and leaves their foot vulnerable to forces generated from impact and toe off of bare concrete in the squished compromised position....idiots
I wear Vessi brand "Everyday" shoes for that reason. I have an equilibrium disorder, and when I tried these shoes which allows me to splay my toes out naturally, i had less falling accidents. I live in the city surrounded by cobble stone. I cant imagine ever going barefoot in these places. 🥹
I’m all about grounding, and being barefoot when possible, on healthy surfaces, such as organic soil, organic ground cover, beach sand, etc. There are places to be barefoot, and places not to be barefoot. The urban jungle is one of the “nots.” Feet are a common entry point for parasites and infections. Good luck with this doomed to failure idiocy.

That's probably not a good idea walking around in a city where people spit, pee, and deficate in the most random places... however, not wearing shoes does have good benefits under normal circumstances. So I see the desire to do it, but not at the cost of health... and certainly see no need to destroy multiple pairs of shoes for no other reason.
If they are willing to waste their money by destroying shoes, why not just buy new shoes that are better for your types to have space and still be safe in cities. And go barefoot in places that are safe. How ridiculous. That's exactly why those types of shoes were made
Eww, I've seen poop, sewage water, and rotting animal carcasses on the side walks and streets. Why anyone would want to drag their bare feet across any of that is a mystery to me.
They will learn. Ringworm is a thing. The Japanese have one of the cleanest countries in the world. And they insist on removing shoes in homes and even some businesses. And THEN they wear slippers around the house. And have SEPARATE slippers for the bathroom. Unwashed bare feet are disgusting, walking around a city barefoot is STUPID
When I was young, had some friends whose family was from Japan and learned this habit. Still to this day, my family takes their outdoor shoes shoes off for indoor slippers.
It’s rare my family wears shoes around our house, especially on the carpet. It just grosses me out wearing shoes from Walmart or public bathrooms into my home. And I’m usually wearing slippers or socks in the house too.

All of a sudden “Idiocracy” is looking more like a documentary instead of a fictional movie
That movie has aged like fine wine.
It does apply to USA more and more. This is what happens when the system is actively trying to make people dumber.

All of a sudden a comment section of judgemental troglodytes gaslighting people doing something they enjoy that has many proven health benefits and doesn't affect others lives or hurt them in any way is making Idiocracy look like a documentary. The best part about it is if any of you met these people out in public and talked to them and realized they held the same beliefs and positions you had on many topics you'd all think that they were awesome, amazing, smart and good people if you had no idea that they had no soles on their shoes. And this is an absolute 100% fact. But based on something so minor and non threatening in every way people lose their minds and start throwing insults like kids on the playground during an elementary school recess. Pathetic.

Gross example of privilege. Many people who live their lives walking barefoot would love to have just one pair of decent conditioned shoes.
I'm not playing that game. Many people have privilege and do not do this.
Well said!
They cut their shoes because they can’t live without being barefoot, while wearing socks. 😂😂😂
Feet wouldn’t even touch everything, they would just touch the ground. There was a guy I was stationed with in the Navy that is super grossed out by feet because he thinks they’re dirty and I asked him if hands gross him out and he said “no”. I grew up barefoot in summers. But you do not go barefoot in towns, cities, stores, restaurants or any other public places. It’s a massive health hazard. Love and light to u .
I'm not sure which part is dumber:
1. That they have $20K in shoes
2. That they cut the bottoms off of $20K worth of shoes
I don't personally taste what I walk in. Stepping in a pile of poop wont hurt me. It's just gross. And you already cleaned it up. Whats the problem?
I don't know which is more dumb, walking around barefoot in cities or spending $20,000 on shoes only to destroy them.

Right... i mean going hiking bare foot would make way more sense, not in the city.
If they are willing to waste their money by destroying shoes, why not just buy new shoes that are better for your types to have space and still be safe in cities. And go barefoot in places that are safe. How ridiculous. That's exactly why those types of shoes were made
Are these on streets with drugs users, don't step on a dirty needle.
