What a strong speech
Strong speech?
Thanks so much for posting this. I had never seen this pivotal moment in US history as I was only born in 1980.
I was 4 years old when this was passed. My dad lived during Jim Crow. Now, our right to vote is being threatened. It has been just under 60 years.
Your right to vote has never been threatened.
@@brucecampbell4528I'm I misunderstanding ur text did u say African American rights to vote is easy to go vote like Caucasian Americans???
@@horseshoes3523 It's 2023 yes your right to vote is guaranteed. And honestly saying otherwise, is pure propaganda.
As a legal citizen, you have the right to vote. With destricting, your vote may not have equal power as others, but you still have the right to vote. Edit: redistricting*
@@Simant2020 being a citizen in the United States don't mean nothing to people of color or where a person wants to live or buy.......WAIT!! is you being funny right?
Can we get Chief Justice Roberts to listen to this speech? It seems he never heard it because he played a huge role in dismantling the Voting Rights Act.
And in the same breath let's rid ourselves of all restrictions on the second amendment.
How so?
Johnson was openly racist, and condemned generations of African-Americans to live in poverty on welfare.
According to the legislation, the VRA was never meant to be permanent but rather gradually phased out. It's been nearly 6 decades and no one is denied their right to vote
@@KMN-bg3yuno one is denied the right to vote except in Texas Georgia Ohio And every other republican state.
Best thing he could have done
Johnson was openly racist, and condemned generations of African-Americans to live in poverty on welfare.
Thank you for broadcasting this. We need to hear all of these things that you can find from the past relating to our current issue with white supremacist pressing us to be second-rate citizens or even slaves again.
Johnson was openly racist, and condemned generations of African-Americans to live in poverty on welfare.
‘I can’t stop the war, too many of my friends are making money.’ POS
LBJ was a known racist. The south (heavily democrat party followers) wouldn't recognize the 15th amendment. He did this because some of the followers of MLK started the a third political party known as the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party in 1964. This got National attention, and forced LBJ to sign the act. Other states (heavily Republican party) didnt have this issue.
Signs the voting rights act, then sends thousands of poor black men to their death in Vietnam! What a guy!
The only reason he signed it was so they could get the black vote for the next 200 years his exact words not mine
Super racist president

Republicans would classify this as "woke", especially Desantis.
In the Senate, 18 Dems voted against the Bill. Al. Republicans voted for it
Nope, they classify this as hypocritical, given the guy giving the speech was a racist and this was actually Kennedy's bill before they killed him and took his spot and claimed his work.

It's sad that we have not had the same amount of progress when it comes to voting rights and police reform today. It seems like Black people are under attack and a lot of people are feeling apathy towards government and politics. I talked about it here: ruclips.net/video/0Y_YAKW9BpA/видео.html

Excellent speech. President LB Johnson helped in the equalization of all citizens. It’s a shame he didn’t win his election against Richard Nixon.
He didn't run in 68. Nixon beat Hubert Humphrey.
How ignorant can you be? LBJ never ran against Nixon

The GOP is stopping the teaching of slavery and offering prison time for any teacher or librarian who has such books, as 35 states have now introduced a bill that would restrict and regulate the way that teachers or university faculty discuss issues of slavery.

If it wasn't for the Vietnam debacle, LBJ would be considered one of the greatest Presidents ever. But the lecture for Black leaders included here was unnecessary and insulting, a sop to the right wing.
In the Senate the right wing voted unanimously for the Bill. 18 Dems voted against it
Johnson was openly racist, and condemned generations of African-Americans to live in poverty on welfare.
LBJ accidentally teaching CRT in his awesome speech in 1965. It was never called that before recently, just understood as reality.
Was that an awesome speech he told his fellow Democrats the only reason he was signing it so Democrats could get the black vote for the next 200 years is he still your hero
@@joeblow527 hmm joeblow, that's an interesting opinion. i'm a professional historian though, so i don't make politicians my "hero." Giving accolades to a president for delivering a great speech while signing such a monumental historic bill is different from idolizing him. Every one of them has been dynamic with problems. No human being is worthy of that kind of worship.
Landmark and historic, If only Democrats had observed the 15th Amendment rather than finding ways to circumvent it for nearly 100 years, the VRA wouldn't have been necessary
