If you steamed enough mint, let the bottle of mint water sit for a long time and the oil will rise to the top. You can take it off with a syringe. You can also use the minty water too.
Oh Bryson…you’re the sweetest most handsome nerd I’ve ever seen 🥰 Thank you for being so amazing, hardworking, and willing to try almost anything to make life better for you and your family 🩸❤️💝🎊🥰❣️🎂👏❤️🔥🥳🌹
I have never been this early. Going to really enjoy this episode. I have not found any distilled water at our local stores, so you are not the only ones having that issue. That is a still you can use for making 'medicinal' alcohol if needed. The thumper tub in a still is used to catch any boil over from the mash and keep it from plugging up the coils. Have a great weekend everyone and looking forward to the live stream tomorrow.
🤣 conFLATULATIONS it works! Bree your puns crack me up! I have to admit, when I saw y'all had an announcement, I was hoping a new bundle was on the way.
I am on my second distillery system. First was from H2O Labs and my new one I found on Amazon. I will Not go with out one! BTW, I believe that we are neighbors?! Tire shop in one of your recent videos looks very familiar! Much Love.
I've had mine for like 3 years now. Much simpler all electric and fan. Ive been given weird unsupported ideas about drinking distilled only, as well as for cooking. I've looked it up and the warnings are unfounded. I keep a 2 gallon for my drinking and like 12 indivdual carafes for guests on regular rotation. I have been approached by like 5 different friends in the phoenix area advising no ditilled in stores right now. Bizarre shortage, maybe i should go into buisness.
If you want to drink distilled water I can recommend MegaHome distillers. Under $300, sits on countertop, fully self contained and electric. Watched a video 3 years ago where folks were invited to bring in samples of water from their water source and have them tested. It was eye opening the stuff they found that was in their water. The person doing the meeting said pure water is distilled. I got a TDS pen from Home Depot, under $10, and tested our well. It was 330 ppm which is in the acceptable range according to WHO when Iast checked was 1500 ppm and EPA is less than 500ppm. Distilling our water test 0 to 2ppm. We make a gallon water in 5 hrs and have had this distiller for 3 years…
OMG! You got the same distiller we got! ...No, yours looks like the next generation. Hope it works good for you. We found that the seals were not really tight so a lot was lost to steam and getting a gallon of water took a long time and a lot of electricity. We need to make some adjustments I think. Shelly, there is no distilled water on the shelves in So Cal.
As interesting as it was watching Bry do his mechanics and expertise ( glad it worked well), I was very curious and went back to see what Jared, Gary were up to in the back ground... Lol. Good job everyone.
The foxfire books will describe how to use that more effectively. For water you don't need a thumper, you can put one of the smaller pans in the bigger pan with the lid turned upside down.
We made our own distiller for distilling things. Without a thumper there will be spurts and burps and loud thumps that is spewing through. With thumper is an outlet for that. So you can get a nice stream coming out the other end.
We have been distilling our water for about 5 years now. Only had o go through two distillers so far. you can find them on Amazon. Distilled water is the best water. Distilled equals rainwater.
Not sure what was scarier, picking up the instructions or the sock in sandals. It's also frightening how RUclips has hidden MLH from my feed now I have to figure out what this shop build is.
Bryson, maybe you could take the distilled mint water or oil or whatever came out, and use it to make a concentrated mint syrup (with a simple syrup recipe) for diluting to drink.
I distil my own water for drinking and i love the taste. The muck that comes out of our town water is not nice. Tank water seems to have a lot less muck in it. I distil the water two times when ever i can and sometimes once.
looks like a travel moonshine maker, heh. also we here in mid CA. are having trouble finding distilled water as well. i use it for my cpap machine. so, it is essential .
Hi Bryson, certified herbalist here, you did everything right to distill essential oils but your collection vessel isn't ideal. Also mint doesn't contain a ton of essential oils so it would make sense that you only get a few drops out of it. Ideally, you want one of those fancy narrow glass tubes to collect in, that has a little spout at the bottom. This allows you to pour off the water periodically until only the oil remains in the tube and it can easily be bottled (always use a dark glass bottle, no metal lids, and store in a cool dark and dry place). The water you have is still infused with minty goodness! it's a called a hydrolate and is still useful! Mint oil has cooling properties so use the hydrolate to spray on yourself on hot days for a bit of a cooling sensation. Rosemary hydrolate is amazing as a rinse for your hair as it has scalp soothing properties and lavender is amazing for the skin. The metal setup isn't ideal for essential oils, though. You have to really clean every nook and cranny because over time, they might corrode and damage the metal as some essential oils are really strong. This would also potentially contaminate your future runs of distilled water with essential oils, which sort of defeats the whole point of distilling water.
Bryson, here's a challenge: grow your own sugar (cane or beets), and whatever variant of mint you want, make your own oil, and master candymaking in time for Christmas. Bonus point if you also make your own red food coloring for stripes. Just, you know, if that sounds like fun to you, it seems like something you might enjoy doing.
For essential oils, an ultrasonic cleaner with heat (under $100), and cheap, high% alcohol as preservative. The Health Ranger Mike Adams has a good tutorial. 👍 Love the shows!
Hello everyone, distilled water can be consumed, but it can cause side effects, because distilled water has the ability to absorb a little minerals from everything it touches. If it's for consumption, avoid plastic containers for storage. Here's what I found: Side effects of distilled water: Pros and cons Aside from its flat taste, distilled water doesn’t provide you with minerals like calcium and magnesium that you get from tap water. Since distilled water doesn’t contain its own minerals, it has a tendency to pull them from whatever it touches to maintain a balance. So when you drink distilled water, it may pull small amounts of minerals from your body, including from your teeth. Because you already get most of the minerals you need from your diet, drinking distilled water shouldn’t make you deficient. Still, if you’re going to drink distilled water, it’s a good idea to make sure you get your recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables. Pros Depending on where you live, distilled water could be better for you than tap water. If your town’s water is tainted with harmful chemicals or pesticides, you’re safer drinking distilled. Take care!
OF course you put socks with sandals when it gets chilly (we do it all the time here in Florida)! 🙄 Now you want to go CRAZY you can buy the Japanese socks that come design to be worn with sandals I am loving these smileys in youtube 😀
Fun video… so, distilled water wasn’t the real reason. So, what do you use distilled water for? I did a little online search and it seems that you might to revisit your process. It looks like you take the leaves and chop them up and add them into a flask and add your liquid to that you heat the flask in a hot water or oil bath and the the oil and liquids come out. You can expect about a 1 to 2.5 % yield. Sounds daunting. I think you would be better to make prickly pear wine and distill it into prickly pear brandy! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to what goes into your cauldron next!
heh, I am having trouble getting distilled water in Nampa, ID. Went to about 6 different stores and found none... guess I won't be using the humidifier for a while.
so, maybe i'm wrong - but i thought the point was to evaporate the water (because non-water won't evaporate - like minerals, leaves, and the oils you're trying to capture). Isn't the point to get pure stream to turn it back into water - leaving everything else behind? In other words, I don't think the oil would come out of the spout. I hope you figure it out, though, I'm really curious how to make essential oils (Tech Ingredients did it recently with lemon rinds - maybe you can get some smarts from him - he's got plenty to spare)

When you are making whisky, the thump keg catches the 'bitters' and whatever else you might find objectional in your final product (which, by the way, is poison but who cares about that because its all about getting that part of your brain that is responsible for making judgements numb so that you can do fun things you would otherwise be too embarrassed to do and will later be embarrassed to remember if you don't consume enough of the product to black out and even if you do black out others will persist in telling you about it repeatedly over many years...). Just a guess on my part, of course...
It’s not just you. My coworker has brought it up several times. She has said that she’s going to need to buy a distiller because she doesn’t know what to do!
Distilation of different products, oils, alcohol , other scents etc, is all about the boiling points, or evaporation point, of the various items you are wanting to condence. Alcohol as an example boils off before water, so to get alcohol you bring your liquid to that temp and no more, other wise you will get water too. Mr google it.
How long does it take (and amount)? Does it put off a lot of heat? I live in the valley and the city I'm in now has the worst water I've ever tasted, it's gross and smells. I use a counter top distiller and it takes about 3.5-4 hours to do a gallon but it's worth it.
Why is it so hard for most people to read directions????? I Literally have friends ask me to help them out with tasks because I'm able to read directions. SERIOUSLY!
hey cutie Bryson. Another great video. I think the mint needs to be infused into oil in (around 30 days) then strained. Check with Rosalee at "Herbs with Rosalee".
Distilled water is one of those things that is out of stock and suddenly back and then gone again here. I looked up directions to make it and instantly said “nope!” 😂
You forgot the grains. Corn, malted barley and oats. A little yeast and some time, then distillation. Oh wait, water, yeah.
Don't forget sugar🤣
Don't forget the Mason jars
If you steamed enough mint, let the bottle of mint water sit for a long time and the oil will rise to the top. You can take it off with a syringe. You can also use the minty water too.
Oooh I wonder if it would taste like mint tea?

Maybe chop up the mint before putting it in the distiller. More surface to extract the oil from.

Having a hard time finding drinking water the bottled water is safer to drink than the faucet water in my area

Ahhhhhh. I thought someone was gonna be expecting a little bundle! Still... Cool!
Me too lol
Me too come on you 4 need to get going You need to keep up with your brother lol
Seems to me, Bry, you've got a great base for either some awesome mint tea, or a step or two away from an epic minty 'Shine 👍🤣🍻
NEW SHIRT MEME - "Wait Distilled you see this"!!! Wait a go Bryson that was so cool!!! Looking forward to tomorrow!!
Yeah well I’d like to have some of that mint brew to spray around my house to keep insects away. Good job Bryson.
Love Bryson out the pot way of thinking new and interesting project all the time
That distiller is hilarious. I just got an electric distiller and it wasn’t as entertaining but much easier. Love your imagination. .

and when the prickly pear bloom you can make some liquor !!!! LOL
Speaking of water what ever happened to that well drilling truck
Bryson the "Jack of Everything" has now mastered "the distiller" dah dah daaaaah! lol. Looks amazing guys. Can' wait to see what else you use it for.

looks like a travel moonshine maker, heh. also we here in mid CA. are having trouble finding distilled water as well. i use it for my cpap machine. so, it is essential .
You need to blend the mint first the release the oil from the leaves...then distill to separate the oil from the rest
So nice that you are having a AZ statehood day sale on the 14th!

Distilled water doesn't mean it is pure water. Consider the food odors when the water evaporates while cooking food. Love these vids!
Mint water is really good for upset stomachs so you just made a jar of awesome, tasty tummy meds. 😋
Bry tells us all he is making distilled water but I think we can call him a moonshiner. Beware if he buys a bunch of corn soon. Ha ha ha.
You can see if it’s distilled by testing if it is conductive.

Bryson the mad scientist. I love your inventive mind.
It's not just you guys I can't find any distilled water either! Have fun with your still, haha! I never thought about the oils that was very cool.

Bryson,
That mint makes great tasting tea.
Bryson, put the mint in the thumper. The steam will cause the oil to evaporate out and distill in the chiller.

What a great idea to distill the mint! Nice job!!!
Distilling is all about temperature. Re-distill a second time to concentrate the oil more.
That's the funkiest distiller I've seen, I wonder what the empty container is for because I've seen setups without it.

Because it is. it's possible to distill alcohol with a water distiller.
It is
time for some mylittlehomested moonshine
I had a distiller 30 years ago and all the coils were hidden. Water should have no taste. Don’t put in plastic as it will pick up that taste.
I'd have some moonshine running as soon as the cameras are off. I'm sure Bryson would never do such a thing lol.
Very cool
I had that same one. It started splitting after a few uses
Hhhmmm….looks like the same contraptions they use on Moonshiners! Maybe some high octane distilled water in the future??!! 😉😉
