  • Mikhail Pletnev playing Schubert's Piano Sonata no. 13 in A major, D. 664, op. 120, live in Moscow on 2 October 1982. This is from the pictured LP. I've tried to remove as many clicks and pops as possible from the second movement.

M.Pletnev is a very genius pianist, his play always gives me a special unthinkable touching. S.Ritcher and him are my favorites.

Incredible how what is called Melodia today has not released this when he is arguably one of the top Russian pianists alive. It may be that they are just following the 50 year wait with all of the Berman, Gilels, and Cliburn they have been issuing. And for all we know it is not even the Melodia that released this LP. But, this performance certainly deserves to be available and brings a new perspective to this sonata, which already is underperformed. Thank you.

This sonata, is, like Beethoven's final sonata op 111, reaches musical perfection in each movement. There are no other sonatas I have found that do this (one or other movement will always be markedly inferior to the other/s - or else the movements may all be the same but not the same level perfection). i m o. Do you agree with my assessment, ADGO?

      Appasionata, waldstein , B's 31 , Haydn a flat major sonata, Mozart k310 , schubert d784, 960 , Chopin sonata 2 and 3 , Liszt b minor , Scriabin sonata 4 are also perfect in my opinion
