In this video, Jonathan Landeros shows how a parameter from one part, can be used to drive another part inside of Autodesk Inventor.

I make lots of videos about Inventor for high school students here in the city of the 2032 Olympics, and you've done a wonderful job. Great pacing, great example, great instructions. I've learnt a lot about linking parameters and lot more about how to make a technical video highly accessible for all types of learners. Top shelf.
PS Best bit is I don't have to make an easy-to-understand video because I've got yours to show my crew😉

Good video ... well presented .. concise and informative. I was expecting you to use the DERIVE Function to achieve control of the Bore. Is that an alternative approach in Inventor ?

    the video helped a lot!
are you using a joystick or how can you look around without holding down f4 the whole time?

Hi! Glad we could help. I cant speak for Jonathan, but a lot of us use 3D Connection Space Mice. You can manipulate the view with a few Keyboard/Mouse shortcuts. Try holding SHIFT + Center Mouse Button to rotate the view cube. I find it easier than F4, but everyone has their preferences.

Useful video, but why you created additional parameters and link it instead of directly change corresponding iFeature parameter (which placed with Ifeature automatically )in parameters dialog ?

When in shaft parameters you have to tick the export parameter box on the right hand column, otherwise you can't link it to the base

      Hi William,
Actually you get prompted that "Selecting a non-exported object will modify the base component to make the object for export". So it will edit that parameter to link to the base even if you did not manually click the "export parameter" box in the Parameters dialog. Hope this helps!

Is there a way to control the parameter value within the Assembly ? Can you have this parameter displayed in the assembly browser tree like in Solidworks ? (not having to edit the part to change the value of the parameter).

Thank you very much. But I want to drive parts from an assembly. I have a Linear Actuator and want to enter stroke length in the assembly. Is that possible. It keeps telling me it is a cyclic dependency. Is this just always the error message because it can't be done or do I have to hunt down some parameter that is getting in the way?

It looks like you have some sort of constraint/dimension that is prohibiting the motion. I'd start by looking there.

How about this. Can you change the value of the Shaft_diameter from within the Assembly parameters? Or do you need to go into part level first? (it takes more time, especially when programming a standard part).

Hi Mark, there are certainly ways to drive the parameters down from the assembly level into the part level. Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, there may be other methods to automate that parameter change most effectively.

In my case i want to export the parameter from an IAM --> part. When i try to link my part to the IAM i get cyclic dependency error.
