David Lean shot this amazing opening scene of Lawrence’s fatal Brough Superior motorbike ride in Chobham, while the accident really happened near Bovington Camp, Wareham in Dorset.
The very first bit, shot from above, was even filmed in sunny Almeria Spain... The little St Martins on the Walls church of Wareham houses TE Lawrence's effigy sculpted by E. Kennington.

Definitely in my top 5
Top 1 or 1 and a half !
When I first watched it, the cinematography, score, storytelling, characters and action scenes blew me right. It’s in my top 5 favorite movies of all time
I love how the first shot of Lawrence at 5:12 only shows him, and doesn’t reveal Hartley next to him until the next shot after the angle on the camels out the window. Just the cinematography of those first 2 shots establishes the core of his character that never changes, without a single line of dialogue. By delaying the reveal of someone else in the room until after the first shot of Lawrence by himself, it establishes that - although he is friendly enough toward the other officers who enter later - Lawrence feels alone and alienated deep down, even despite the physical presence of Hartley nearby. There is a disconnect from Hartley. The life of a British officer is unsatisfying and suffocating for Lawrence; the bars on the window resemble prison bars because he feels trapped in his place and his own skin. He doesn’t belong here. Outside the prison are the camels symbolizing the Arabian desert, which is calling out to him. And at the end of the film, he rises from his seat in the car to longingly watch the Bedouin riding by; even then, the desert still calls to him.
The movie theatre industry is failing. If I owned a chain, I'd show weekly classics. This would be one of the first.
Certain films are meant to be shown on the big screen.
Jaws, close encounters, star wars, Citizen Kane, ... The list is endless. And in-between would be the cult classic films, and different theme nights all summer long.
I predict that there won't be any movie theatre industry in 15 years. Sad
I agree with all the films being streamed now instead of going to the cinema, sad indeed.
I just saw the film in theaters last night and it was the epic experience that I expected.
After all he'd been through, he dies like that.
Better to have lived a life than not.
@@gerrypowell2748 - Certainly so and few lived as much as he. It just seems so ironic that after all the peril he’d been in, all the bullets he’d dodged, all the lethal desert he’d been through, been a prisoner of war, he goes back home and dies because a couple of bicyclists were on the wrong side of the road. I don’t know if that’s how it really happened but it is certainly believable.
Yes it more or less happened like that,as a biker and ex Army I have learned that everyone has an expiry date and when it happens it happens he lived an exceptional and charismatic time.
Riding his Brough Superior was therapeutic for him.
As dangerous as it was, it was better that than dealing with the demons of PTSD.
Even the King of rock died in a toilet.
