    Im grateful in your honesty of the process. The start to finish seemto gloss over the actual process of things not always where you want them, and that time is needed to see it from another perspective! Thank you it helps us newbies to not feel pressure on every attempt must be completed, but to enjoy the journey!

    So glad you didn’t “scrape the canvas clean” and do something else. It’s a beautiful composition and I’m glad you persevered.
    I’m also glad that you don’t feel you have to be a painting factory and turn out a completed piece every day or every video that you can see the value in living with it for a while and working and re-working if necessary until you’re happy with the final result.
    Keep up the amazing work.

    • @jimreid9674
      @jimreid9674 2 года назад

      It's a dreadful composition with poor values and the brushwork is overworked and consequently screams of lack of belief.
      For goodness sake Turner get some attitude and confidence into these paintings by arriving at the conclusion quicker with less mess. Be more assertive.
      Step one...use a bigger brush and less strokes, and an even bigger canvas, at least twice the size of this one. Logistically difficult but you work it out.

    I’m taking Turner’s online course and it’s excellent. His manner is very natural but also directed and I feel like it’s a live session. I paint in acrylics and watercolors and the information pertains to these mediums too, it’s all about learning to see and translate the info to your own painting style. The course has definitely helped me and I have recommended it to several artists.

    Hey Turner, awesome painting .
    Also I would like to mention, especially for beginners to Plien Air or studio-based painting, that a good tip for keeping ones palette clean, is to cover one side with a sheet of kitchen foil, making sure you use the shiny side up and folded over as tight as possible on the underside of ones palette and held in place by using either sellotape or masking tape. Once painting is completed, simply peal of tape and unwrap foil from palette, discard used foil and simply set up ready for ones next project. I used this method for about two years until I found that glass makes for a better system and cleans easily. Glass can be cut to size to fit pouchard boxes too. Hope this info is useful.

    Hi Turner, I'm touched by your painting, but also the process. I like your way of throwing yourself into it and take a step backwards, analyzing and make adjustments. Sometimes it takes distance to see again what's good and what needs to be changed. I learn a lot in your course! Composition exercises as well as values ( squinting the eyes helps) are great, have to practise some more to get to the next part, colours! I hope more people will find this course, it's very helpful ( yes I'm a watercolourist until now) and I'm learning a lot. Already looking different at landscapes, paintings etc. Btw I love the music too on your videos. Good luck with your workshop and show!

    Love your spontaneous approach and over the top painterly style but when all 'the rules' are cast aside something is lacking and this painting exemplifies that. It's a muddle without balance and enrichment. You are not taking your conceptional painting to its honest conclusion. Do you understand?

    • @turnervinson
      @turnervinson  2 года назад +2

      I'll try harder to take my conceptional painting to its honest conclusion

    • @jimreid9674

      Same as making a conceptional conclusion into an honest painting. Be bold and direct without compromise, every mark stays there as part of the journey.

      I just meant that when you try too hard sometimes the work can become contrived and lose the spontaneity. Especially when layering on thick impasto like Turner. I love Turner's bold style and the rich layers of paint. His paintings are a celebration of the medium. They are a joy to look at.

    While I respect the commitment to go out and freeze to paint from nature, in this case I don't think it was worth it. Of course the following advice will be scoffed at, but it remains correct nonetheless. Better results would be obtained by first assiduously studying paintings by the masters for several thousand hours; then sketch or photograph the scene and return to the studio to paint it. This way one will not be pushed to abbreviate the session because of the cold. It can take a very long time to do a good painting. Personally I would suggest avoiding the thick impasto because, while the untutored often assume that thick paint means real artistic passion, this is only possible for paintings done by the very best artists. These paintings need improvement in every area (drawing, composition, paint handling, color sense, etc).

    You folks who try to sell courses when you barely qualify as an amateur should focus instead on learning yourself.

    • @turnervinson
      @turnervinson  2 года назад

      Right?! Like who does this guy think he is?

    • @johncarmanarts
      @johncarmanarts 2 года назад

      Not intended as hate. Sorry if it sounded that way. My bad for assuming you were selling online courses. But I see that your course is free. There are a ton of people of late selling courses in art on the internet that provides information readily available online for free. And often the paid material is not as well done as a lot of the free content. I was one of those that spent a fair amount of money paying for internet art education before I knew that much of it could be had for free. So when I see people promoting paid content I put in my .02 to maybe save a few people my mistakes. But I have no argument with anyone simply sharing their journey and no judgement on anyone at any level sharing their knowledge for free. And I admire your passion and dedication to your painting and your journey.
      Edit: actually I see you are selling workshops. If folks are looking for what is likely to be a great in-person, outdoor experience, I'm sure they would enjoy an onsite workshop in Montanna. In the fall no less!

    • @turnervinson
      @turnervinson  2 года назад

      lol, no, no, you're right. I have an online course that folks are buying in addition to the free mini workshop. No offense taken to the hate. It's not unusual to receive various forms of hate when you try to pursue something other than the 9-5. I've been a full time artist for over 4 years now, crazy as it may seem to you. I have a lot of free content, I have some you can buy. I also have in person workshops that folks pay money for. I always try to over deliver, and my students enjoy what I offer. I also sell paintings, that can sometimes cost a lot of money. Sometimes these things rub people the wrong way...and those people usually want me to get mad at them, lol, but I'm good. I'm sure you're good too. Peace...I need to go shopping
      Edit: you should come, lol, you’ll probably have a good time, and buy me some groceries
