Jeff, I can’t wait for my order to arrive! Where do you get your hook hook latch splicing tool? The widely used ones I’ve tried always seem to break on me, also the handle on yours looks much more compatible with “man hand” than the tiny all-metal ones.
love your stuff...best tutorials on yt. i have been thinking of making 'buttons' for the button knot, but out of hard wood like purple heart. but i was thinking only one hole in the middle with a stopper knot or back splice to secure the button...for use on non critical applications like, sail gaskets, and soft sail hanks to use on synthetic stays.
Regarding strength, I'd be more worried about UV rays damaging the plastic over a few dozen years than I would be about any normal kind of load from a hammock. 😁 They probably wouldn't be as strong as the plastic and they'd certainly do more damage to the amsteel than the plastic, but, with an 1' x 1" diameter dowel, a saw, and a drill I could make quite a few of those. 😉🤣
on the UV comment , these are polyester and highly UV resistant, and same is true for the hammock material , thread and suspension webbing . Now on your dowel idea. Please go ahead and do it and post some results. Sawing and drilling into this "dowel" that you have will produce rough edges , my buttons have smooth edges.
If you make them with a dowel, you will be making them with the weakest part of the wood between the holes and risk having the cord break out the holes.

He’s very helpful when you need advice too. I bought quite a bit from him last year and he answered all my newbie questions.
I bought a few of your titanium ones a while back. I haven't noticed any fraying, but I'd love to try out some of these plastic ones.
alright!
jeff, where do I buy the buttons? I did not see them on either your Ebay or Etsy sites.
message me or gimme a sec I will list em
have you done any breaking strength tests on the buttons?
yes
1500 plus pull when used as a soft link ...
