I eat a lot of dandelion greens. There's a big difference in the edibility of dandelion greens depending on their growing conditions and age. The photos he shows are all growing in stressful conditions and wouldn't be a good choice for eating. But dandelions growing in the shade or tall grass can be big, broad-leaved, and delicious before the leaves get too tough. If the leaves are older, just strip out that center rib, like you would for kale, and they will still be good.
I'm Greek. Horta should not be separated from stalk. It's the stems that have all the good vitamins. Just blanch all until tender. Drain...then add olive oil, lemon, garlic powder . balsamic vinegar if you don't like lemon... They are delicious cold. I let mine set over night.
Great! I am glad to come to your channel! I love dandelions too. I cook with dandelions, I make dandelion flower tea myself , I really enjoy it! I feel obviously good after eating or drinking the tea.
Also use the Flowers as part of your Greens Dressing sprinkle them RAW on top with a Little Lemon Juice to help take away the Bitterness. My wife and I just ate some Dandelion Flowers Fired in a Batter the other day delicious and Healthy
it seems odd buying dandelion seed. you can find them everywhere. i guess you could buy the seed if you're worried about consuming dandelions that have been sprayed with chemicals.
@Benjamin Kanoza Because its ok to have a healthy amount of concern about a plant that many people consider a weed and therefore has a higher chance of being sprayed with pesticides that contain nasty shit like glyphosate when theyre found 'out there'... If they came from my yard id be totally fine eating it (and im sure many others would too) but im not risking developing leukemia because I ate dandelions from my neighbor jimbobs yard who willynilly sprays roundup like hes anti-Johnny appleseed
I'm going to try my very first dandelion draw the flower I just picked it washed it then load up all the same all the way off and then eat it see what happens I hope I don't turn yellow? :-) LOL
Just stay away from a lawn that has been treated with any sort of fertilizer or weed killer. You don't want dandelions that have sucked up this crap. Also, stay away from dandelions that are on the side of the road as they are quite large and tempting to pick; they are large because of the carbon monoxide, not good or healthy!
I've always known you could consume dandelion (wine) this is a nice easy recipe, I'd like to try it with a Thai Dish Pad Se Eww, seems like it may be a good combination.
Bitter taste means its good specially to diabetes... I love bitter gourd (some over cooked or sprinkle them with salt then gripped it for lesser bitterness) but for me d bitterness and d natural, juice of it is d healthy part of d plant or fruit.... Just cook it in garlic and onions with salt and pepper, and they taste really better even its bitter...
They aren't as bitter when they're young, before they flower. Also, if you gather them after a light frost, they'll be less bitter. If you've ever grown lettuce, you know it can get bitter after it goes to seed. Same for spinach and dandelion as well! :)
If you soak them in a brine solution like he did, but much stronger, it will remove bitterness. I used to eat pheasant out in the woods. Hunt it, skin it, stuff it with wild onions, wild apples and some dandelion greens to remove the gamey taste while it roasted over an open fire. Soak the dandelion greens in maybe 4 cups of water with 5tbsp of salt. You need a LOT of salt for it to work. Let them soak for 15 minutes to an hour depending on how bitter you want them.
+Dan5482 They are not bitter at all to me. I simply pick them up from my backyard, rinse, boil them in water, and then eat them just like that. If you really want to taste bitter foods, try bitter melon; it is a super healthy food, but very bitter.
+FlyingWhale I read all your comments and all your tips for men going to try those recipes I've got dandelions all over my acre so maybe I'll be the healthiest old lady in town
(pg. 2) unrefined tropical plant oils like coconut and palm oil. A little olive oil in your cooking is probably okay but I think the bulk of one's olive oil consumption should be raw. Butter is the natural choice when it comes to dandelion greens. Ghee, tallow from beef or lamb, lard, bacon grease, palm oil or coconut oil would also be healthy fats to cook in. That being said, I also think the bulk of one's butter consumption should be raw. RUclips video "Raw Milk Safety" by Sally Fallon!
I know they are edible and am sure you sneak that into a restaurant under someones nose they'd never know yet would bitch about it if they did... yet people eat so much nasty things never meant to be eaten anyhow.
Mate, you really shouldn’t advise people to fry in vegetable oil....all plant oils become carcinogenic at cooking temperatures. There’s a reason why our grandparents used lard or butter to fry and roast foods in, and it’s that. Animal fats have a much higher smoke-point and are safe to cook with. You can safely add olive oil, sunflower oil, avocado oil, etc., etc., to hot food AFTER it’s been cooked, that’s fine, but it is NOT SAFE TO COOK FOOD IN/ WITH IT.
I can see Dandelion Wine, but eating the flowers rew, or fritterizing Them, no thank you. I think we need to but tea or pills in a store, for Me, buying bags of tea is best.
@@jayebirdjb7143 I read in a book about eating healthy. There are some things that shouldn't be eaten together like onion with garlic or salmon/fish with youghut.

Delicious yes, healthy no, but it tastes REALLY good! Just keep the fried food to a minimum as a health choice.
I use chicken broth to cook all my greens : )
Ooo that sounds delicious! Any particular recipe you’d be willing to share?
I mostly eat them raw, but that sautée sounds delicious

Wow! Did anyone tell U that U do look like Julian Assange? Greatest man that ever lived.
I don't have to worry about planting dandelions. My yard is thick with them.

Where do you buy the seeds at
I was wondering if you have tried dried mustard seasoning. I heard that can kick the bitter as well.
What is that?

Add a pinch of turmeric powder when you do that onion and garlic….it would be nice
thanks
I'm surprised you mention daffodils while preparing edible dandelions - you might have added that daffodils are highly poisonous.
I tried picking the tenderest young leaves. Still couldn't stand the bitterness.
Dandelions are not "slightly bitter" as he said. They are actually brutally bitter.

Buena receta
bacon grease or lard, that much oil would give me the shits
I batter and fry the blooms... taste like fried okra
Please tell me that was not canola oil, made from rapeseed which is poison.

They look like mustard, or collard greens.
Or put nutmeg in it
Recipe sounds good except for the un healthy vegetable oil. Olive oil has my vote...
