The new movie "The Internship" promotes working and interning at Google. In reality, it's a pretty sweet deal, with Google interns enjoying a variety of perks and earning more than many Americans. As CNET's Kara Tsuboi tell us, this year a record number of applicants made it even tougher to get the top-rated internship.

Why do people keep pointing out macs? Google is not Microsoft. They don't make windows or windows computers. And the chromebooks they do make are not for their kind of work
It would've been scary if you'd said it was tougher than getting into an IIT.
I think people need to understand google is a software and web-based focused company. While apple on the other hand is mainly a hardware focuses company. So I don't understand why people are emphasizing the fact that there were so many MacBooks there.

What's wrong with that? I don't think even Google claims that Chrome OS is ideal for everybody, including their employees.
Have to say google pays higher salary than Goldman Sachs in terms of interns, 5600/m vs 5000/m + less hour than Goldman. Google rocks!
Because macbooks are great for programmers, they're fast reliable, and Mac OSX is built upon Unix, so we can use the pretty interface all day but hop onto the Terminal every once in a while if we chose to.
75,000 bucks a year just for an intern. Count me in.

Google and Apple are pretty different companies in terms of what they produce. Sure, they compete on Android (and Android wins on innovation), but Google is into SO much other stuff that allows them to be innovative. It seems like a no-brainer that you'd have more interesting stuff coming out of there.
At the end of the day, Apple is mostly a consumer electronics company, while Google is so much more. But they're both very good at what they do.

Google doesn't really make laptops/computers. Unless you count ones that run Chrome OS, but those are for people who can do everything on the Internet, and I don't think Google employees (especially ones that code) are expected to be able to do that.
I love how much they are incorporated with Samsung but they still use MacBooks.
I'm no genus leader, but will always be a Google fan.
To be honest, i see sooooooooooo soooooooo many interns at the google intern introduction meeting (i've been there) it's just ridiculous that people think its hard. Well it's just all about commitment.
Google is such an innovator. I think that the reason that they pay so much to their interns is because they are trying to build loyalty. The software world is cut throat.
Just because they show it in a movie doesn't mean it's easy in real life. But, I would love to work at google too.
it's not like google supplied them with mac books! it's their interns which are the ones featured here,thinking won't hurt you do it from time to time

Perhaps your comment would be more valid if this video were about a PC manufacturer. There are plenty of Google products used by Mac users.
Working at Google sounds badass
I'm sure they are free to use whatever machine they want but lets be frank here, Mac are designed for what they do. Most people just don't realize that because they use their Mac as a two thousand dollar facebook and light internet browsing machine. I use mine for music, blogging, light gaming and browsing the internet but for nitty gritty web design, music production, photo and video editing and other things like that, you want a Mac.
I would love to become a Google intern. I'm so into tech it is one of my favorite things in the world. I especially love android.
Surprisingly, this video just motivates me more... When some things come exclusive, you only want them more...

I think you're talking about minimum wage, the average American worker makes approximately 24 dollars an hour.

Interns in Malaysia as a Programmer is only getting about 200 usd.
Just because Google is starting up their own operating system doesn't mean that they think it is as refined as their competitors. Chrome OS is new and currently VERY limited and google knows this. Give Chrome OS a chance to grow and become as good as its competitors or wait to see if google kills Chrome OS before making a remark that implies Apple is so much better. Lately google has been innovating a ton and Apple has been doing next to nothing in the past couple years.
I don't think Apple has internship programmes. I heard that Apple only hires people who are the absolute best in their particular field.

It's perfectly normal. Why would Google ban their staffs from using Apple MacBooks? That would be irrelevant & childish. They're a tech company, not a religion.
Google has always being using Macs .. it would be weird otherwise ....

Google doesn't make PC's and a lot of people at google like using apple products, even iphones as apposed to androids. They let their workers pick what ever they like the most even if it isn't their own product. Which is why I would much rather work at google then at Apple. So I wouldn't say GO APPLE.

And have to pay $8000+/month for rent. That eats up their salary quite quickly. There are many stories that even engineers at GOOG/FB/AAPL have difficulty affording the Bay Area.
Affordable housing doesn't really exist in the Bay Area. Cities like NY, London, Boston, etc. have expensive downtowns but some affordable suburbs. The idea of an affordable suburb doesn't exist anymore the the Bay Area, unless you include the Central Valley (Sacramento, Stockton).
