polycarbonate (lexan) is what you want to use for windshields, acrylic will shatter if struck

I’ll have to look into it for my v-strom windshield; haven’t had any issues with this one so far though.

Nice video mate, haven't seen anyone else do this! You should add some music for future videos and play with playback speed and time-lapse ect

Thanks for the feedback, i am considering remaking this video due to the positive responses despite the video and audio being quite poor.

Hey. Thanks for the video. I saw your Hyosung in the Background. Im actually trying to make a thin windshield for my racebike which is a Hyosung. Have you got any advice on what material i could use? It should be thin and bendable.
    Thank you.

Hey mate! Unfortunately that Hyosung got stolen! My acrylic windshield has held up well & hasn’t fogged up. I’ve found an aftermarket windshield maker who also uses acrylic, and has some good points over why they use acrylic over polycarbonate. I’m going to make another windshield for my vstrom, and I’ll use acrylic again due to the low cost and how easy it is to work with. I’m not sure if acrylic will be suitable for a race bike though- might be worthwhile asking in track day forums or Facebook groups what they use? Good luck with the hyosung- and if you ever get a persistent misfire/ F1 issue, change your spark plug caps for some good quality ones. A weird, but common issue.

How's the plastic holding up in the sunshine? Has the UV light affected it?

Hi Simon- the acrylic is as clear as the day I bought it. It sits outside, only partly covered, 90% exposed to the elements. It has outlasted the bike unfortunately! Engines don’t appreciate dropping valves into the cylinder at 110kph. Polycarbonate is the type of plastic which can discolour and haze over, however it is commonly used for windshields because it is less likely to crack or shatter with impacts. I have not had an issue with the acrylic, and have stumbled upon an aftermarket windshield company which uses acrylic for their products as they find the impact resistance of sufficiently thick acrylic to be up for the job.

Hi Azhar, i can't recall unfortunately. Approximately 5mm would be my guess.
