The problem with oversized garments like the Monro is making my brain accept that it is "oversized" not "the wrong size." I think it looks lovely and cosy on you.
You are so right Natalie! I think my first impression was 'wrong size', not 'oversize', but as I wore it more, I really enjoyed it!
Hi from Wellington! So lovely to hear a kiwi voice on a sewing vlog.
Thank you so much Jo - it is great to know there are Kiwi's watching and enjoying my videos! 😊
Love this style of video! Looking after sick babies while sick yourself is no joke! Hope everyone is well on the mend!
The monroe looks great on you… and who doesn’t love a stripe 😍
Thank you so much Rachael, it was such a fun vlog to film! We are slowly coming right now, just in time for half term! The Monroe has been much worn - it is definitely a great, everyday wardrobe hero.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. More than anything I was intrigued with the cinnamon buns on the waffle maker. Lol. Great idea!!
I am glad you enjoyed that! It is a quick and easy breakfast - much faster than the oven!
Great video xx
Love this style of vlog. Cute too. Thanks for showing and reviewing.
Thank you so much for watching Lori!
This style of vlog is really enjoyable, Amelia. It was great to see snippets of a day in your life; I’m up at 5:30am fixing a coffee myself before working on a pattern test. It made me feel close to you, though an ocean away. 😊 Your top turned out lovely and suits you very well! 💗
Thank you so much Lynn, I am glad you enjoyed the video. It is nice to know there are others who enjoy the quiet of an early morning coffee! ❤
Lovely to spend the day with you.
Thank you Kim, I am glad you enjoyed it!
Great video. I very much enjoyed seeing your day and I think the turtle neck is lush.
Thank you so much Angie. I have been enjoying wearing the turtleneck this week!
What a lovely vlog thank you and the top looks lovely worth all the pattern matching.
Thank you, I am so glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for opening up your home to us! Something to try that worked for me: use double-sided tape to match up stripes! 😍
That is such a great tip, thank you Julie Anne!
Yes for more videos like this one 😊
Thank you Jaque!
What a great way to show and share your make. I enjoyed your video. I don't normally go for the look of a dropped shoulder but I think it looks nice with your choice of fabric.
Thank you so much Dawn. It is a new style for me, but I really like it for a casual weekday look!
Love these blogs and the top looks great,I agree re upping the sleeves one size xxx
Thank you for watching Laura!
Really enjoyed a day in your life vlog Amelia.
Thank you Catherine, I am so glad you enjoyed the vlog.
Excellent video! The top looks awesome on you!! It reminds me a bit of the Molly top. The turtle neck looks perfect! I say this as someone who grew up wearing them! 😄
Thank you so much Tammy. It is a bit like the Molly top, isn't it! I grew up wearing these to school too, but it has been a few years since then, so I don't mind it. 😊
I love your day in the life video. I really like your Munro top. Xxx
Thank you so much Claire, I am so glad you enjoyed it. The Monroe was so lovely to sew up and I loved wearing it last week - so comfy!
Hi Amelia, this was such an enjoyable vlog... really love seeing your day unfold 👌💝. I'm just like you and use inches for body and meters for fabric 😁. I thought your Munro looked great on you and I think you'll probably find it a real staple for the winter 👍😍😁😘
Thanks Sally. Isn't it funny how we hold onto some imperial measurements! I have been wearing the Monroe so much this week already - I think it will be a wardrobe staple!
Loved your blog and chat 😊
Thank you Carol, I am glad you enjoyed the vlog!
Top looks great on you 😊
Thank you!
Love the top, hope you’re feeling 100% soon . X
Thank you so much Lorraine. We are definitely on the mend now after a long week of illness!
I work in inches for measurements and quilting. Meters for fabric and I go between the two systems for sewing garments.
Me too! It is so funny using the different measurements for different things isn't it!
Hi Amelia. Think that style of the striped top really suits you. A proper wardrobe staple garment! Your dinner in the slow cooker looked delicious, just my thing 😋! Hope u all back to full health soon. X
Thank you Ann! I am really enjoying wearing the top, it is so comfy! The curry was delicious too - the children ate it all! Thanks so much for watching. ❤
I loved this vlog.
Thank you Mary!
Love your Munroe , suits you and yes I would make arms bigger next time. I have pattern and it’s now in my to do pile! ❤️
Thank you Claire! I will definitely size up in the arms next time. I hope you enjoy sewing your Monroe.
Thank you so much for doing this vlog, it was great being part of your day. The turtleneck is perfect and looks so great on you.
Thank you so much for watching Carmen. I am so glad you liked the video. ❤
Hi there, really enjoyed this style of vlog thx
Thank you Tamara. I am glad you enjoyed it!
What an enjoyable vlog! It's nice to see how other sewist spend their day at home.
Thank you so much Kennethia. I am glad you enjoyed the vlog. It was fun to film this one!
Thanks for sharing your day Amelia. Enjoyed watching how you fit sewing into busy family life.
Thank you so much for watching Carolyn, I am glad you enjoyed it!
Really enjoyed this vlog Amelia, it reminded me of some of the vlogmas style vlogs. I also struggle with the relaxed fit look, I think it’s because having larger hips makes me want to show off my waist as it’s my smallest point
Thank you so much Annabelle. I am so glad you enjoyed the video! I also like showing off my waist as I have a pear shaped figure. But it is really nice as a casual weekday piece in my wardrobe!
Love this style of video. Early on in my sewing journey I made a dress with 1/4" stripes (navy & white) and pinned every navy stripe to may sure they matched. They did look quite well matched, but it took me ages. I then read a tip that using a walking foot helps to match stripes up. I haven't tried it yet though so don't know if it actually works. 😊
Thanks so much Elaine, I am glad you enjoyed the video! My machine does have a walking foot, which I am sure did help to keep everything in place.
Ooh so interested in what that fabulous red/burgundy dress in the background is going to be. Almost looks like a hack of the Anthea Blouse!
Yes! You might be right! 😉
Haya. Really like this style video of yours 😀I think your sweater looks good on you & looks super snuggly 🤩Thanku 'sew' much for sharing 🧵
Thank you so much Anna, I am glad you enjoyed it!
Top came out nice. I'm not fond of snug sleeves though. I need the blood to flow properly 😂. This top will look cute with a pinafore dress.
Thanks Noemi! It is an interesting fit with the tight sleeves and loose body. I really want to try wearing it with my navy pinafore dress.
Cool Vlog😻😸❣️
Thank you.
I really enjoyed the Day in the Life apprach. It makes a really interesting change of scene and adds so much interest. I know it will have taken a good deal of work and editing - thank you for taking the time for that. I think the Monro top looks great. This style of top works well over more fitted trouser shapes and leggings - it will also look great under a pinafore or dungarees.
Thank you so much Eileen, I am so glad you enjoyed the vlog - it was lots of fun to film and edit! I will definitely try the Monroe over some skinny jeans with boots - I think that will look great in the winter. Thanks so much for watching!
Great turtleneck Amelia. I totally agree about the Maraflex thread. It has been a real game changer for me. Thanks for a great video
Thank you for watching Claudia. Maraflex thread is so great, isn't it!
Loved being part of your day Amelia. Thank you for that. Your top is lovely as always. You just need to get used to the 'relaxed' fit....it suits you.
Thank you for watching Libby! It is a different look for me, so thank you for your kind words!
Thank you for sharing your day. How many times have I sewn the neckband on with the center seam in the front. I now check, check and double check. Good to know it's not only me!
So glad it's not just me! 🤣 Thank you for watching Lauri!
This was a lovely relaxing episode to watch. I love the results of your turtle neck…..I think it suits you very well. I must add that pattern to my wish list.
Thank you so much Marion. I am really glad you enjoyed the vlog!
Thank you for sharing your day with us 😊. I loved the Munro top on you. A lovely piece for your autumn/winter wardrobe. It’s a pattern I’ve looked at so many times but I will print it off this weekend and give it a go now.
Thank you so much for watching Elaine. It was such a lovely sew. Perfect for the palate cleanser I needed. I hope you really enjoy sewing yours too. ❤
Love your channel, and enjoyed sharing your day with you today. I love your striped Munro and think it's a great top for casual wear. You did awesome on the stripe matching, bravo for you!
Thank you so much Lynn, I am glad you enjoyed the video! ❤
Thanks Amelia, great video, I love this kind of vlog, gives us an insight into your life and puts things in context, love your top, really suits you! hope you are all feeling better! xx
Thank you so much Catherine, I am really glad you enjoyed the video. We are all on the mend now thankfully!
Absolutely loved this style of vlog Amelia! I love how it showed your daily life.
Thank you Zakiya, I am so glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank you for sharing your day with us. I love all your wonderful food prep for your children, their breakfast and snacks looked so lovely and healthy and the supper looked delicious too. I agree on the pain of stripe matching but it’s totally worth it and your turtle neck looks wonderful. 😍
Thank you so much Katherine! It was fun filming the different parts of my day at home and I do love cooking, so it was fun to get a bit of that in too! 😊 The stripe matching was so worth it in the end, so I am glad I persevered with it.
I always enjoy your vlogs. Just one request, could you mention, or list what you’re wearing 😊
Thank you Valerie - I do often forget to do that, thanks for the reminder I will try to remember to mention what I am wearing next time!
Enjoyed your day and sewing of your top which looks very comfy
Thank you Robyn! I am so glad you enjoyed the vlog.
Really enjoyed this style of vlog-enjoyed the pace, very relaxing.
Never considered cutting patterns with a rotary cutter! Assuming you have one for paper and one for fabric-def going to give this a go. Enjoyed the pattern matching and pace of sewing, good things take time! More please! x
Thank you so much Noeline, I am glad you enjoyed the vlog. I upgraded to a new rotary cutter, so I do use the old one to cut patterns as I find it easier and quicker. Thank you for watching!
Lovely video Amelia. Great make. Thank you. Have a good week. 😊💐
Thank you for watching Bridget! I am glad you enjoyed the video.
Loved this vlog thankyou Amelia. Hope you get your sparkle back soon.
Thank you Jeni! It has been quite a week with all of us being quite poorly but we are hopefully all on the mend now!
The blouse looks great on you.so enjoyed this type of video
Thank you Joyce. I am so glad you enjoyed the video. ❤
Lovely for your autumn/ winter, we are heading into spring/summer here in NZ
Thank you Michelle - So nice to be heading into warmer weather. I hope you have fun making lots of lovely Spring/Summer makes!
The top looks amazing and I absolutely loved this style of vlog it was so relaxed x
Thank you so much Anne. I am glad you enjoyed the vlog! ❤
Such an enjoyable vlog! I always look forward to Saturday morning watching your video and drinking my coffee. I was just looking at the Monroe top pattern last night. I love the look of it on you. Oversized things generally don't look so good on me, but it might be nice and cozy for this winter.
Thank you so much Katrina for your lovely comment and I am glad you enjoyed the video. I wore the turtleneck yesterday and really enjoyed it. I think it will work so well in the cooler months. ❤
Lovely video Amelia, your top looks great. If you are a fan of Maraflex do have a look at William Gee as they sell both black and white thread in large cones, colours are available in boxes of 5 reels and singles of course.🌹
Thank you for the tip Eileen! I will definitely have a look there. ❤
I really liked the video and love the turtleneck. It's a great look for you! I'd also like to know what you were knitting, as I've just begun knitting again. I'm a beginner - just socks, hats, mittens, and I'm working on an easy cardigan for my grandson.
In fact, I'd love to see a video on your favorite knitting patterns - especially easy ones.
Thank you Mary, I am really glad you enjoyed the video! I am happy to recommend some beginner knitting patterns. The one in the video is a kit from We Are Knitters, but for children I have really enjoyed making lots of patterns from 'Vintage Knits for Modern Babies' which I bought from Amazon.
Very cute look!!!
Thank you Karol!
Amelia: I loved your opening! Is the red cardigan you wearing the one you knitted? Love the top you made. I like tops to be slightly loose too in knits; I find the climb upward on my body if they are snug.
Cheryl
Thank you Cheryl. The red cardigan is actually a Jennifer Lauren Handmade Juniper cardigan that I sewed up last winter. I wear it all the time! Thanks for watching!
Yes still work in feet and inches I also convert my money into "Pounds Shillings ans Pence" as well.😄
So funny how we hold on to these 'familiar' measurements! 😊
Thanks for sharing your day, can you tell me what your waffles were? Xx
Thank you for watching Caroline! The waffles are actually cinnamon buns but instead of cooking them in the oven for 20 minutes, I pop them into the waffle iron which only takes 2 minutes!
Good morning I’m new to your channel
Love your sewing takes me back fitting round the family n then work
I too sewed for me n family
Now medically retired so fit sewing n knitting round how I am, but always got something on the go
I noticed you don’t use Big 4 companies sewing patterns, would love to know how you find indie patterns please
Thankz Caroline Norfolk Uk
Thank you Caroline, I am so glad you enjoyed the video! I sew from the Big 4 sometimes, mostly for my children as I find the fit on me is sometimes a bit off and I prefer the fit of Indie patterns. I really enjoy sewing Indie patterns, especially because the instructions are really thorough. Thanks for watching!
Thank you I didn’t know if u follow New Zealand indie as you know them
Turtleneck can be made loose for an older, short neck? Love fabric 🐱
Yes it can. There are instructions in the pattern for how to alter the neckline for a looser turtleneck.
Love it! I need a Munro now 😉
Thank you Carrie! It is definitely a comfy, cosy top. I think I will be living in it this Autumn!
I'm an inches and feet for body and stones and pounds for weight! Loves the day in the life vlog! ❤️
Thank you Alison, I am glad you enjoyed it! Isn't it funny how we really hold on to these imperial measurements. 😊
Hello Amelia, Nice Pattern but not sure it would suit me. I work in inches too( old school) and meters also ( Aust). Can you also share in your contents, the shirt you are wearing ( in black). Where do you buy maraflex.. is it guttamen? Will try that dinner. Cheers from Melbourne.
Thank you for watching, I am glad you enjoyed the video! Guttermann make Maraflex, but there is also Seraflex thread, made by Mettler, which does the same thing. The black t-shirt I am wearing is a short sleeve hack of the Adrienne Blouse by Friday Pattern Company.
Great vlog, inspired?? Not me, excuse me while i go off to find some stripy fabric in my stash lol.
Yay! So glad you enjoyed it! 😊
I really love that top. Thanks for sharing your day x
Thank you Annette. I am glad you enjoyed the top, and the vlog! ❤
Can’t go wrong with a stripy top! May I ask what size your cutting mat is? I want to buy one but I’m not sure whether to go for something really large, a smaller one, or even two to put together! If you or any of your lovely subscribers have recommendations I’d be very grateful!
Thank you Louise. A stripy top is definitely a wardrobe stable, isn't it! I used to have a small, A3 size cutting mat but I found it frustrating to work on when I needed to use the rotary cutter. In the end I invested in an A0 mat (from Amazon) and I am so, so pleased with it. I have had it for 2 years now, and it is still working really well.
Which pattern did you use for the puff- sleeved black top?
I used the Friday Pattern Company Adrienne Blouse with shortened sleeves.
Love a strip top would great under a navy pinafore dress . Enjoyed the vlog.
Thank you Cheryl! I have a navy pinafore dress, so I think that will be next on my list to pair with the Monroe. ❤
Recipe? Vegetarian?
Yes! I've linked it in the description box.
