Thank you for making such a nice, clear, product overview. Thank you for tailoring it to art applications as well. I agree with other comment below...it’s so NICE to not have loud yelling, stupid music we can’t hear over, silly unnecessary hype words etc. just straight talk, and excellent images to see, and a REAL person who is NOT trying to be a “influencer” or other nonsense. You are wonderful to watch, listen, and learn from!

Hello, I want to thank you for your time and review; I've just purchased the CanoScan 300, thanks to your recommendation! I specifically really appreciated the advice on the scan settings, I've followed them and the scans look great. I'm a beginner with getting my artwork digitalized and your video was clear, detailed, and answered all my questions. Now, on to Photoshop! Many thanks again, your review was excellent and just what I was looking for!

  • @HiddenRefuge

I bought this scanner quite a while ago, your review was amongst the few which made me decide. I have to admit it was probably one of the best hardware decisions I have ever made - Lide400 is truly an excellent scanner. When you consider how affordable these became with CIS technology developing over the years, offering something near professional levels of scanning quality at this price is fantastic. Add the fact this can be used easily for document scanning and the included software toolset which is a pleasure to work with, I'd especially recommend this model to hobbyists and semi-professionals looking for an affordable way to scan their sketches, traditional art or photos; the pricing won't fracture your wallet and resulting scans are excellent for display or further digital editing. the potential to plug and power directly via usb-c and it's size and flatness are another major advantage.

The printer was a bit complicated to hook up ruclips.net/user/postUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 but it does the job very efficiently. I like the ink wells versus the ink cartages that cost an arm and a leg. It prints quickly and the quality is excellent. It shuts off when not in use, so you have to remember to turn it on. Overall, it exceeds my expectations. I'll update my review in a couple of months.

Great video! I grabbed the 400 last year for scanning art half expecting low to okay quality for the price point... but it was one I could afford, and I easily assumed it was better than my 15 year old 3-in-1 from Walmart LOL. I'm glad I clicked because I completely ignored the ScanGear button, and that's just the level of texture I'm looking for in my watercolour paintings. I can go a little multi-media on my art, so I can't wait to see how metallics and other additions scan together with those settings.
Thank you for such a great easy to follow video.

Great review! Thanks :) Just a quick tip: when you miss textures, you could tell, you are missing detail. And probably a edit could bring back some detail. Like you do with the highlights. With a RAW photo this is not a issue, but with JPEG and such, the quality will fall pretty quick. Also, when the big white bulp at the right exceeding the far right @ levels, the detail is gone.

I came here because of one particular aspect : In some places it's referred to as LIDE 400 SLIM, but isn't thinner than the LIDE 300, 220, or 210. I own the 220 and 210 and the scanner that is thinner is the Epson Perfection V39, by 2mm. It's 1.5. I'd love to find a 1inch thin scanner. The selling point for the V39 for me was the micro usb versus mini usb on the Canons. The only selling point for me for this new LIDE 400, would be the USB C because well, almost all newer items are using the same cable.

A bunch of very dear friends gave me this scanner as a moving in gift. However, none of the scanning options were fit for the type of art I use for my YT channel (which requires very white surfaces upon scanning - the scanner would scan the paper surface and the end result would be grayish paper).

The Epson Perfection V370, is a good scanner for watercolor and other
artwork, because it uses a CCD optical sensor, instead of a contact sensor, to scan the paper.
This is good because it has a deeper field of focus, that picks up the
    texture in paper better.
Paper with a little warping stays in focus better too.
And it only costs $20 more than the Cannon LiDE 400.
