  • "Sword of Lancelot" (known as "Lancelot and Guineveret" in the UK) is a British film starring Cornel Wilde, his real-life wife at the time, Jean Wallace, and Brian Aherne. This lesser-known version of the Camelot legend is a work almost solely made by Cornel Wilde, who co-produced, directed, co-wrote, and played Lancelot.
Lancelot is King Arthur's most valued Knight of the Round Table and a paragon of courage and virtue. Things change, however, when he falls for Guinevere (Wallace), bride of Arthur (Brian Aherne, who had essayed this character previously in 1954's Prince Valiant), and she for him.
Made ten years after Richard Thorpe's film Knights of the Round Table, the illicit romance this time is portrayed as a more intimate affair, and the sword fights have a more menacing reality (Wilde was an excellent fencer). A sub-plot concerns Arthur's effort to forestall a challenge from a rival king, a problem that will inevitably catch Lancelot up in a personal conflict.
    ---
Directed by Jacques Tourneur and Mario Bava, produced by Bruno Vailati, written by Alberto Barsanti (story), Ennio De Concini (writer), Augusto Frassinetti (writer), Raffaello Pacini (story) and Bruno Vailati (writer), starring Steve Reeves as Phillipides (Phidippides), Mylène Demongeot as Andromeda (Creuso's daughter), Sergio Fantoni as Theocritus, Daniela Rocca as Charis, Philippe Hersent as Callimachus, Alberto Lupo as Miltiades, Daniele Vargas as Darius I (King of Persia), Miranda Campa as Andromeda's handmaid, Gianni Loti as Teucro, Anita Todesco as Andromeda's friend, Ivo Garrani as Creuso, Sergio Ciani as Euros, Franco Fantasia, Carlo Lombardi, Ignazio Balsamo, Gian Paolo Rosmino and Walter Grant.

This lesser-known version of the Camelot legend is a work almost solely made by Oscar nominee
Cornel Wilde, who played Lancelot as well as co-adapted, co-produced and helmed this undeniable
fantasy/action/adventure, which was an co-production of Emblem Productions &
Theadora Enterprises, released by Universal-International in October 10, 1963
    and re-released in June 7, 1993.

Thanks for the film! I always enjoy this one. Surely not the best movie ever made, but still very enjoyable nonetheless. A lot of good character actors in it who went on to do many other films and TV in the UK and the US. Actor, Director Cornell Wilde in the lead role, was a an expert fencer and selected for the 1936 Olympics.

I have a hobby with the stories centered on King Arthur. Since I was a boy. I saw this movie soon after it was made, probably in about 65. Really liked it. I've looked for it since being online. Never found it. Of course, by now I had forgotten the stars' names, until seeing this. Thanks for putting it up. To me its still a good movie, but not as enjoyable as when a boy. And...I'd forgotten how pretty "Guinevere" was.

Just going through comments before watching. Many times I mean to come back to comments after watching a video, to reply to a comment I read before watching. I always forget, which is probably why you got no answers. I am commenting because that is a good question, and I would have liked to see some answers to your question:)

She was beautiful!!! Now, she should have fessed up to the king before she married him! Ah, but then you wouldn't have a story.
I HATE the ending. And I love God, but to become a nun? I would have liked it if they went off together. In fact, even if one of them died it would have been better.

That's Jean Wallace. She was married to Oscar nominee Cornel Wilde. In fact, the former married

      and Maggie Wilde.

In addition, they have three sons, a brother, a sister and three grandchildren. Those
later projects were made primarily for Theadora Enterprises, a company where she,
Cornel Wilde and Irene Dunne had formed.
Their credits were featuring Storm Fear, Sword of Lancelot, The Naked Prey,
Beach Red and both of its last pictures: No Blade of Grass and Someone to Watch
Over Me - they were critically acclaimed for its theme.

Round table is a rather wrong political system, contrast to one-leader central government. King Arthur could just superficially unite his kingdom. To cover the weakness, he invented such word like freedom, peace or love etc, which in fact without power he could not do.

    • @arthurbanksforbeijingopera3091
      @arthurbanksforbeijingopera3091 7 лет назад

Never. You are right. I just comment the theme expressed by King Arthur's story. Many people in China still believe the theme is true.
