I had never heard of you until 2-3 days ago. Now I find you to be one of my favorite people. I went through the downfall of consumer electronics repairs and closed my shop of over 20 years back in 2013. Couldn't get parts for most items (or they cost as most - or more - than replacing the entire unit). Couldn't get technical information for most items. Even as an ASC for many brands, we STILL couldn't get most individual components to actually repair items at a price that made it viable. And it only got worse over the years.
Get other people to find what we do interesting, worthwhile, useful, and fun. If you help someone fix something when they need data they haven't backed up - you won someone over. If you show someone how much fun it is to figure something out and get it to boot, or fan spin on their own - you won them over. Betcha a dollar at least one of them had dropped their phone in a potty, or the sink or cracked their screen and had the misery of barriers to data recovery and repair of phones and other devices you want to see eliminated! @ ~28:00 not disclosing the safety lock information would be tantamount to inviting a lawsuit should they hide that info from the general populace. What if the switch fails and doesn't lock the lid. How would the consumer know it needed to be fixed? Is it me or have the people in charge of making or passing the laws completely lost all ability to reason? If anything, that statement should force the passage of right to repair. And did any of those representatives of the industry say anything substantive past their first opening remarks? When questioned all they did was revert back to their original statements which did not even answer the questions being asked.
Franklin said it best: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Right to repair, which is really RIGHT TO OWN **IS** Liberty!
Good Job Louis Rozzmann, they just heard your name pronounced earlier! You totally won them over and the audience with them. Also good job on using the other testimonies against them as well.
Guys, means nothing to express your support here! The legislators clearly stated that if you can't present yourself in person, then send an email with your testimony as they need more of this stuff, they said that what they have until now is not enough! If you are in this industry, do your part! Because this is more than just the right to repair! Is about our freedom.
Rossman really made an impression on the young dude in the right. Comment about the 250 years ago as well as just pain in ass at end of his testimony. Smiled both times heavily. Probably like "typical New Yorker speaking his mind."
There where moments where I almost thought I was listening to an episode of 'Yes, Minister!' during the testimonies of the anti-right to repair crowd...
The whole arguement to refute right to repair was refrigerant gasses. They narrowed down all repairs to the most technical, environmentally impactful, to represent ALL repairs. Hopefully someone on the committee saw this and called them on it.
Another reason why repairing and refurbishing is important... Replacing the device involves throwing the old one out. That's waist, that has to go somewhere, that has to be dealt with, or it just gets chucked out somewhere, or dumped in a landfill...
Louis brought the conversation down to a level they could understand which is cool as hell cause i think they got it after an hour an 47 minutes what this whole thing was really about :D
Always blows my mind how tone deaf these lobbyists can be. How can you get away with telling people to their faces that they’re just too stupid to choose for themselves what to do with the products they buy over and over and still keep winning for so long?
Perhaps it’s because the lawmakers can best relate to it as they really ARE too stupid to choose for themselves, and would rather pawn that responsibility to an intern or something.
Built in obsolesc ence is an epidemic in all spheres of manufacture, not just mechanical items and electronics. Its a symptom of capitalism, profit above everything.
The worst part is, that Earth has a end of resources, and it would be high time to start saving those by enlarging the Life of Technology by Repairing them, or Recycling.
It's like if they sell you a house (or this room we are in) and provide you no drawings for it. You already have it and can make drawings for it yourself but it will be a pain in the ass. It's easier to get the drawings online. Better analogy imo. GJ Louis.
yes exactly. gett/make the drawings. that way if you want to say install a tv mount, that you don't end up hitting a live electrical line. and if you create the damage it's your fault, not the seller, previous owner nor the loan company.

im watching this on a 65 inch tv. thought there was a giant fly on the screen lol
To be fair, Tony that crippled man who can't afford a new wheel chair clearly has a vested interest in this issue.
I am overjoyed how many people testified in favor. And how many provided great testimonies. I am really hopeful that this bill goes through. If not, I am ready and willing to fight nail and tooth for it, as will everyone else at this hearing. We are strong!!
This guy really nailed what independent repair is about 59:44
Had to rewatch the first few seconds as I thought he said Jackie Chan.
Ikr 😂
Yes, representative Jackie Chan is in the H O U S E!
cant be unheard :)
You're not the only one!
Hes the knock off version hence Tackey lol
59:30. "I'm going to murder this name." 🤣🤣 At least he gave it a try.
Louis, that was the most powerful opening statement I think I've ever heard!
The "buzzer" almost gave me a heart attack, when I was watching the live stream late at night...
A better solution would be a giant timer visible to everyone and counting down.
@@bonbonpony There is a timer on the TV screen.
bastard buzzer made me jump outta my skin
I feel like this is history in the making. So inspired and so proud.
Maybe the court footage will be used in a biography movie soon

Other than watching and liking your videos, how can we, the angry mob who follows you for several years, help you out?
Get other people to find what we do interesting, worthwhile, useful, and fun.
If you help someone fix something when they need data they haven't backed up - you won someone over.
If you show someone how much fun it is to figure something out and get it to boot, or fan spin on their own - you won them over.
If you show someone how to help someone ELSE fix something or save money, you won them over twice over.
Don't be an angry mob. Be a happy repair mob. It's awesome. :)
wow too humble to toss you a donation link. We need more Rossmanns in the world.
@@rossmanngroup I fixed my laptop hinge for just the price of the part (40 euro + shipping) when Asus told me it would cost $500 to fix, so I'm happy

@@rossmanngroup I've shilled your videos for years and helped people fix computers for ~2 decades. But an angry mob truly gets the public's eye: look at how blizzard is doing
At 28:00 bullshit, I replaced one of those interlock switches in a washer, got the right part, found instructions and repaired it correctly myself. Bad example.
Sure, the average user wouldn't bother with any of that because they're too lazy or dont know any better.
LOVED the “24” reference! My 2nd favorite show of all time
It'll help them remember Louis's argument
zombiegun71 behind the sopranos obviously
Rammstein live should be your first.
@@larymcfart4034 actually going to see them for the first time in September! Super rxcited
Louis's testimony is BRILLIANT!
Great job Louis!
This will help so many repair facilities!
👍👍❤️😊
24:09 "Uhh um well y'see uhhhhhhh" Nice...
i love how they refer the right to repair to the safety of your appliances when all you want to do is replace the screen on your phone
Glad to see they got the lawyer from the b movie

Great testimony, Louis. The voices of the corporate attorneys tremble like the infirm ground they stand on.
You did us all proud Louis. Speaking is tricky especially to a crowd like this so to articulate the issues, respond in a real world human level (book in Latin translated to English) was so appropriate.
I teach electrical topics for safety and skills. I find the model of speaking you used is so effective as you must connect with your listeners immediately. You did not have and hour or two to establish relationship, you had to bring them on board in literally minutes which you very successfully did. I noticed, as others mentioned in comments, how interested some of the panel members were.
Betcha a dollar at least one of them had dropped their phone in a potty, or the sink or cracked their screen and had the misery of barriers to data recovery and repair of phones and other devices you want to see eliminated! They have a wallet and are consumers too! Reach them where they live and connect! The best way to connect and get empathy for our cause is to touch people in that area where they too have felt the sting of crazy ridiculous repair costs or simply no repair offered at all!!
Bravo keep up the fight we are with you. Right to repair is like Pandora out of the box , no going back, never give up never surrender!
Louis, this is amazing, you're a super smart individual, inspiring really.
you're *actually* making the world a better place - thanks man

Henry Baker has been watching Louis's videos. As Louis says, "I hope you have learnt something". Great video Louis. Really interesting watching this all the way through. Thank you.
When you have a 3 hour break in the middle of your college classes. Oh boy this is gonna be fun.
They will definitely remember your testimony, probably more than all the others. I wish I could carry myself as well as you do.
Nice one at 56:25 "if the lobbyists are unable to answer questions about their own industry I would be happy to answer any for you". I'd advise the lobbyists to seek out the local hospital for burn treatments.
Thanks Louis for sharing! This will most likely set a precedent for the rest of the world
Screw the corporate shitlords. I've seen how their security tools "help", and they don't (won't, and have no incentive) do shit to help you. I buy it, it should be mine, and I should be able to do whatever I want with it. And, if they want my loyalty and cooperation, then they better start focusing on providing me services I find of value.
Louis, you presented your case brilliantly
Sad that I couldn't watch this on the day of release due to my exams schedule, but it was worth going through the entire thing! I bet a lot of them really enjoyed Ross' little story and hope this bill gets passed as it was intended.
Love what you're doing Louis, keep up the good fight!
You’re doing God’s work. Not everyone can afford to buy a new device every year or after every accident.
Great, Louis!, and thanks for your excellent explanation.

Make Applesauce Louis!
Wish you could have talked longer
Love ya man
Can we just talk about how humble Senator Brady was?
Thanks for uploading this, Louis.
Is about our freedom.

excellent speech from Louis Rossmann
Rossman really made an impression on the young dude in the right. Comment about the 250 years ago as well as just pain in ass at end of his testimony. Smiled both times heavily. Probably like "typical New Yorker speaking his mind."
I still can't get over that dude's name being Tackey Chan... I loved how a couple of the guys laughed at the 24 joke.
So concise. Louis, NEVER CHANGE!
Louis is literally making the world a better place on his own.
Great speech Louis! BR from Slovakia
I watched the whole thing. It seems that every corporate lobbyist can't answer questions that might favor any right to repair.
That technet person had absolutely no idea what she was talking about. She just made herself and her company look like a fool
God Bless you Louis Rossmann!
when you made that 24 hours analogy you got all their attention, nice job
Thanks Louis. Please keep fighting for us.
so what's the final decision of this case ?
can we repaire or apple won ?
At what time does louie Testfy any help would be apreciate it.I am very intrested on focusing Gift with limited time. Thanks Richie- Long Beach,NY
Another reason why repairing and refurbishing is important...
Replacing the device involves throwing the old one out. That's waist, that has to go somewhere, that has to be dealt with, or it just gets chucked out somewhere, or dumped in a landfill...
" I don't want the beeper to go off, it's been scaring me the entire time "
This is the only thing everyone can agree on.
One person can and will make a difference
Louis brought the conversation down to a level they could understand which is cool as hell cause i think they got it after an hour an 47 minutes what this whole thing was really about :D
Jessa makes some lovely points.
Well spoken, Louis...thank you!
Built in obsolesc ence is an epidemic in all spheres of manufacture, not just mechanical items and electronics. Its a symptom of capitalism, profit above everything.
Jessa Jones' speech starts at 1:03:18 while Louis's starts at 1:47:04.
Thank you, Louis.
Love that inquiry regarding how firmware and proprietary software is dependent on physical parted hardware (fans) if not smoller signal electronics. Oh noes, the hazardous gasses expelled by smol led. Call the OEM Rapid Response!
Putting a spare tire on ur car comes next? Thats on par with changing a fuse or bending a pin back.... Keep up the good work Louis.
