I definitely want to try this now. I’ve been doing tumblers for a few months and I’ve yet to do a plaid one. I’m not a fan of mod podge so trying it this way makes me feel a lot better about it.
I must brag on you a bit your coat is better than some of our final coats... I can see while your adding the tape that it’s already a smooth finish. Kudos 🥰
@@tammystaples4768 I’m sorry, maybe I’m not understanding your question. I explained how to get the width. You measure around the cup and divide that number by how many stripes you want.
This is what I have to make cups. You don’t necessarily need everything though. * Epoxy * Stainless steel tumblers * Turner *foam, footballs, or pool noodles (to keep cup on turner) * silicone or Teflon mat (to protect work area) * Nitrile Gloves * Respirator (for health safety) * Glitter * Tape * Vinyl * Medicine cups, syringe, or other volume measuring tools * Stir sticks (metal preferably) * 91% alcohol (for clean up) * Acetone (for clean up) * Sand paper * Spray paint (similar to glitter colors) * Paper towels * Cricut or silhouette cutting machine (for vinyl decals) * Torch (for bubbles in epoxy) * Heat source (to keep work area the right temperature) * Dremel (to smooth top rim; sanding blocks work too)
I usually mix extra epoxy when I apply over glitter, usually cup size plus 5-10ml, so for a 30oz I’d mix 35-40ml total. Then for the last coat I mix equal to the cup size, for a 30oz I mix 30ml total. CCDIY sells Quick Coat ☺️
I made this cup last night. I love this method so much better. Some of my squares came out bigger after I put did the 2nd layer of tape. Is this because the cup is tapered? They are only bigger on the first 3 rows. I have 6 total.
Eric Jackson yay!! So glad you like this method! Yes, tapered cups always have wonky squares. There are people out there who make templates for tapered cups, but to me the difference is minimal and not super noticeable. If yours are really noticeable, you might have to play with the measurements of your tape/vinyl. I find that making my own tape out of removable vinyl helps! 😊
Here’s what I use. You don’t have to use everything listed, but it is a basic list. * Epoxy * Stainless steel tumblers * Turner * silicone or Teflon mat (to protect work area) * Nitrile Gloves * Respirator (for health safety) * Glitter * Tape * Vinyl * Medicine cups, syringe, or other volume measuring tools * Stir sticks (metal preferably) * 91% alcohol (for clean up) * Acetone (for clean up) * Sand paper * Spray paint (similar to glitter colors) * Paper towels * Cricut or silhouette cutting machine (for vinyl decals) * Torch (for bubbles in epoxy) * Heat source (to keep work area the right temperature) * Dremel (to smooth top rim; sanding blocks work too)
StarBright Designs oh I would definitely epoxy it first. I will try it, and let you know!!! (I actually just have issues with getting a smooth/even looking coat with the epoxy method!!!)
Tasha McMaster for the stripes to tape off the colors, I measured around the top of the cup and divided that by 8. Skinnies have a slight taper, so you’ll likely have one space that’s a bit off. But honestly, it’s usually not super obvious. 😊
Easiest version I’ve seen! Thank you!
Nice video dear thanks for sharing sending my support from limuel
Best tutorial I've seen on this technique yet. GREAT JOB!!
I like this!
Thank you so much for this
I love the idea of using a tea strainer for the glitter! So much easier!
Beautiful
Very pretty!
Thank you so much 😊
This is exactly what I was trying to work out in my head! Thank you for putting it in a tutorial form!
By far the best plaid tumbler tutorial ever!! So easy to follow!! Thank you!!
Heidi Allbritton thank you so much! 🤗
Like this.much better than painting all those little mod podge squares!
Pam McAdams Yesssss! It’s so tedious!
Gorgeous
🙈Okay so I need to see the rest of video 😩 LOL beautiful cup btw!
Wow this is awesome! Love it!
Looks so much easier. I dont plan on making one but your method is the best one.
Pavi Cruz Wow! Thank you so much! 🤗🖤
Thanks to you I now have the confidence to try this myself as you make it look doable x
Lorraine Caddy I really hope you do!! Please let me know so I can see the results! 🤗🖤
Thank you for sharing such an easy way to make a beautiful cup.
This seems much easier method than others I've seen. Thank you.
Elvirta Gomez yay! Thank you so much! 🤗
This seems very doable! Thanks for the info!
Very nice. Thanks for showing another way to do this. ❤️
That’s beautiful
Thank you!

I loved this.. beautiful
Thank you so much 😊
Look super easy my next practice cup going try this
Absolutely Beautiful! I just subscribed, I can't wait to see more. ❤️
Yes girl I love it
Thank you so much for doing this! I hate working with modpodge, I feel like I always get uneven lines.
Mikayla Thomas me too! I just don’t have the patience to paint it all on by hand 😅
How long do you let the very first layer of glitter dry before applying the second layer of epoxy on top of it 🥰?
I must brag on you a bit your coat is better than some of our final coats... I can see while your adding the tape that it’s already a smooth finish. Kudos 🥰
The Miss Tra Thank you! 🥰 This comment made my day! 🙌🏻
Thank you for sharing this, it makes the process seem approachable :)
Genius!!
What are the measurements of the big vinyl squares you cut? In the beginning of the process. Thank you, great video😊
At 4:21 I describe how to get your measurements. It’ll be different for different sized/brands of cups. ☺️
I understand how you got the length but how wide did you make the vinyl lines? Thank you I loved the viceo

What type of vinyl are you using?
Love this cup! How wide were your tape stripes?
Raziel1226 1mm and 3mm 😊
Wow, I actually want to do a plaid cup now. So much better than using the devil's glue 🤣
What safety precautions do you use other than gloves since epoxy is toxic to work with?
A full face respirator and work in a well ventilated area. 😊
Would tack it over and over work after the initial coat of mixed glitter ?
Of course, if that’s the look you’re going for ☺️
@@starbrightdesigns6129 I just kinda mess up when I mix tape and epoxy. More experience will help I’m sure
u mixed all that glitter in those small amounts ?
I’m confused by your question. Yes I mixed in small amounts. That glitter isn’t cheap
What do you use to rotate the tumbler? Can you post a link to materials
tumbler turner
Love this video!! Where did you get your gold vinyl? Having a hard time getting a nice gold. The cup is beautiful 😍
Thank you! I got it from Amazon. I just searched for matte champagne vinyl
Love this!!! About how much epoxy did you put on your first layer and the last layer to seal it?
And where did you get the quick coat from?
I usually mix extra epoxy when I apply over glitter, usually cup size plus 5-10ml, so for a 30oz I’d mix 35-40ml total. Then for the last coat I mix equal to the cup size, for a 30oz I mix 30ml total.

@@starbrightdesigns6129 great! The template is a good idea. I can warp to fit the cup in Silhouette.
Eric Jackson exactly! Let me know how it works out!
What is the size of the stripes..
Can you please list what products you used and where you can find them!

As far as where to find them, I mentioned the glitter and epoxy in the video. Everything else can be found on amazon, at hobby lobby etc
What is the brand of the sealer that you are painting on for this tumbler?
Thank you.. K
Hi! I’m using CCDIY Quick Coat.
This will be a game changer! Thank you so much! Do you think it would work with any kind of epoxy?
Nicole Cooper yes ma’am! If you use a regular epoxy instead of a fast setting epoxy, it’ll take a bit longer.
StarBright Designs yay!!! I’m so excited to try it this way!! ALE dries pretty fast so I’m not worried about it!
Beautiful cup!!! I have a question what is liquid explicit??? What kind the glue is that please and thanks in advance 😊
Carla Jamison Liquidy Split is a new fast setting epoxy from Ksresin. I have a video about it in the reviews playlist. 🤗
StarBright Designs Thank you so much!!!! 😊
What can be used in place of liquidy split
Any fast setting epoxy or regular epoxy. Your work time will just be longer with regular epoxy.
Where you get your glitter?
Peachy Olive, NMO, and Puzzle Tumblers
What do you go on to make your lines
I use cricut design space and cut them out of vinyl
is it frogtape
HI. Thank you for the tutorial. QUESTION; could you use the tack it method for the first coat of glitter, rather than epoxy method?
Shelly VonSchtupp for sure! I’ve never put tape over tack it without applying epoxy first though. Not sure if it’ll pull up.
StarBright Designs oh I would definitely epoxy it first. I will try it, and let you know!!! (I actually just have issues with getting a smooth/even looking coat with the epoxy method!!!)
Shelly VonSchtupp I bet it’s going to be amazing!! 🙌🏻
What kind sand paper did you used?
220 grit
What color paint did you paint your cup?
I always use one closest to one of the glitter colors. This one was Banner Red from Krylon, I believe. Rustoleum Colonial Red would be close.
Thank you
What’s the link to the quick coat?
counterculturediy.com/product/quick-coat/
Beautiful tumbler! Where can I get those stripes?
Leslie Jimenez I made them with my cricut! I used champagne colored vinyl from Teckwrap
Lyndsey Bobki I used a rectangle shape in Design pace and sized it to my liking
What size tumbler is that ? This is awesome! So much easier
Tasha McMaster it’s a 20oz skinny 😊
StarBright Designs awesome that’s what I’m using but I can’t get the spacing right. Do you mind if I ask what size your stripes are?
Tasha McMaster for the stripes to tape off the colors, I measured around the top of the cup and divided that by 8. Skinnies have a slight taper, so you’ll likely have one space that’s a bit off. But honestly, it’s usually not super obvious. 😊
Thank you! Mine are the same way but just wasn’t getting the size right. There was a major difference lol thank you
What do you do on the bottom?
Just leave it as is. You can do anything you like though.
this is beautiful! where did you get your turner? i hate having to screw mine off, I always drop it onto my table while trying to unscrew!
Mad S. It’s from Cup-a-saurus 🤗
Can i use pode modge to seal it?
Reyna Sanchez I don’t recommend it, but you can.
Where did you purchase that turner?
Darlina Williams it’s from Cup-a-saurus
What is lickity split?
Kathy Recchia Liquidy Split is a fast setting epoxy from Ksresin
This is beautiful!! If it’s a little rough after the epoxy over the mix, should I sand or add another layer?
LaDawn Ingram I usually add another layer of epoxy if it isn’t smooth.
StarBright Designs ok thank you!!
