My thought is that the LEAF is the best electric car for the money. I have to admit I've recently purchased the Leaf 62 Kwh Tekna. So obviously I'm not biased. LOL. It's absolutely brilliant.

Thanks for this review. 👍 As you said, it's amazing how a lot of reviewers go out of their way to rip this thing to pieces. Considering that it is made out of recycled material by 60% and can be recycled by almost 100%, it's amazing how good the Leaf looks and feels and how reliable it is. The Leaf is an old car now, but still is a fantastic offering and truly sustainable, at least for the price we pay over here. It almost is crazy affordable for what it brings to the table.
Side note: Nissans product policy is weird sometimes. Over here in Germany, the Leaf finally got a telescoping steering wheel. It also features LED fog and cornering lights, electric seat adjustment with lumbar support and an electric parking brake, the larger battery option...oh and there also is the fantastic pro Pilot. Then again we only get a pretty low level dome light console, whereas the US get the nice one out if the X-Trail... Why not bring those updates to all markets?

I have the leaf+, the 62kwh version, 205hp version. I do have propilot and it's super useful. The autoparking, too. And it works perfectly, all the time. I realized that your version is different in the back. Mine has vents and controls for the rear, behind the arm rest. The seated seats switches are there, too, not on the front seats. Plus usb ports fo charging. I love in Belgium. Great review!
Because you mentioned the Kona, I did test drove that, the top version. The gadgets inside are better in that one, but the tech overall, no. The materials are better but not too notch either. The back seats and the boot are very small in the Kona. I still wanted to see how it drives. And I was surprised to see how much wheel spin you get and how vague the streering gets while accelerating hard.

I bought a barely used 2019 Leaf SV for 19,000 USD. With the technology package, I did get the power seat adjust with lumbar adjust too. I still am not completely comfortable with it. Also, while I do have pro-pilot, I'm missing the complete surround view that the newer models have. Bummer, but I've figured that over the life of the car I would have at least 7,000 USD in gas and maintenance savings which makes it extremely affordable and is still a ton of fun to drive.

Great review I have owned my top spec 2018 model for 2 weeks and totally love it. I am planning on customising mine within an inch of its life 19” alloys going on next week and plenty of body modifications. I love the look of the Nismo Leaf and with a little vision mine will be looking equally as good. Not sure why the model you drove had the foot brake UK model has the electronic handbrake. I totally agree about the issue with the interior trim near your leg on longer journeys its bloody annoying. I am going to add a soft piece of trip over the hard plastic to give some padding as we often do 3hr drives in ours. Apart from that its a flying machine its very quick I have a 220 Bhp diesel Seat Leon as well and this is much more responsive and handles like its on rails. If you want a fun, practical well built car that has years of experience in the electric car market it’s got to be the Nissan Leaf.

    LEAF. 👍🏼
It’s very interesting to hear how your (Japanese built?) version of the LEAF compares with the UK manufactured one. Ours have an electric handbrake, telescopic steering wheel adjustment AND rear USB points for ‘phone/tablet charging which you say were lacking in the one you drove? PLUS Pro Pilot. Our SatNav looks rather better, too. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Anyhow, a 62kWh LEAF will definitely be my next car. I have owned a 24kWh and currently a 30kWh original shape LEAF, which have both been faultless. 👌🏼

Middle hump is likely so that they can have regenerative breaking from the rear wheels as well, in addition to necessary wiring and such for the batteries, backup cam, etc. Could also be structural.

Great review on the Nissan Leaf. I own the 2020 model and have found it a great car so far. It does exactly what I need it to do for me in and around Town . As a town car it is superb and as a EV it does better in stop/start traffic than any ICE car. Simple to charge at home and holds it's charge for long periods of inactivity. I also dislike the foot hand brake. Would never go back to a ICE car ever again after the Leaf.

It's interesting that you don't get the 62kWh in Australia. I've just bought one in Ireland and there are a number of differences, like USB ports for the rear passengers. I'm expecting to export this to NZ after I've had it in NZ for a year, but my main reason for upgrading to the 62kWh leaf was because I've loved the 2015 Leaf for so long, but if the battery degrades per charge, then I expect I shall charge this *a lot* less frequently - I was charging the 24kWh daily until lockdown, and maybe weekly since, but now I don't see any reason to recharge unless (a) I have planned long distance travel, or (b) it's below 50km range. Pretty infrequent, basically, but if I plan ahead I have no problems driving anywhere in Ireland and then charge at destination.

Great review, I’ve had one for nearly 3 yrs - and love everything you love about it. Only the range is a pain. Yes it’s only 5% of trips but they exist, and 9 time out of 10 I’ll just take our little petrol car instead, which is a great shame but I really can’t be arsed with the hassle of public charging just on a150 mile motorway round trip. 200 real motorway miles is what I’d like in my next ev.

The cheaper tesla's batteries are made in china... (tesla model 3 for example) cheap labour = cheap cost of each battery. I'd rather much buy a reliable electric car than a car made in Korea or China.... Can't trust their quality 😬

LEAF definitely looks better. Just wish it had liquid cooled battery. 😒 No brainer! 🤷‍♂️

You're not alone! Probably its biggest issue, sadly :(

    • @LostInIce4
      @LostInIce4 3 года назад +4

The liquid cooling was not needed for 99.9% of users. The reason other manufacturers are using liquid cooling is due to warranty issues by the battery manufacturers. Since Nissan owns it's own production they were not bound by this contractually. Since the Nissan Ariya will use CATL cells and not in-house cells they Ariya will have liguid cooling due to warranty purposes.

@@LostInIce4 interesting, good to know! But I will say, I think it fits further than just warranty issues. There's no denying that an overheating battery will degrade faster. I agree for 99.9% of people, this won't be an issue. Most people are inner city drivers who charge at home. But I've had, for example, a Malaysian viewer reach out and told me their battery overheats a lot when they DC charge especially as they are in a warm and muggy climate. So again interesting, but I don't think that's the only reason 😊 - just my 2c

I wanna like elecric cars. But its just takes so damn long to charge, and I don't have any charging stations close to home. They need to solve this infrastructure problem.

    • @CarSauce

Yeah most people will install a level 2 charger at home, but if you don't have good infrastructure where you live it can be a turnoff!

What the hell is this review. What has he been smoking? It is a good car, that has never taken off, and is a discontinued orphan. Don't buy one. I have one for 7 years, but will never buy another because the dealers never have one for sale..

i got a kona. i couldnt deal with the shitty battery cooling on these. total garbage. a guy on youtube driving in frigid norway drove 200 miles and the pack climbed up to 150 degrees fahrenheit with outside temps 15 degrees fahrenheit. is there even any active cooling? useless to drive around and fast charge because the heat will drop the recharge rate down to 10kwh or less and its going to murder the pack life. no thanks!

Well at least your honest, but I have to totally disagree with you there. I show the car more than a lot of other reviewers, with the majority of footage actually being B roll (well over 50%).
The A-roll is also me seated and driving the car, so there's that 😉
