- Give this video a minute and the front camera will appear. My first live gig in 18 months was a week at Birdland Jazz Club NYC (September 21-25, 2021) playing the music of John Coltrane with this all-star cast of players! The sets, and arrangements, were organized by producer Milan Simich. I filmed the sets with my over-head Zoom camera and, luckily, Jon Bassuk filmed Mr. P.C. on his iPhone. Christian Grassart edited the two together to create this video capturing the 12+ minute performance. I keep the 12-bar form for my solo and played 26 choruses.
My Zildjian cymbal setup is, drummer perspective L-R: 14” Armand HHs, 20” Complex II, Peter Erskine “Left Side Ride” (as my main ride), 20” Staccato Ride, 26” Andrés Forero prototype ride. The Sonor drums are my 30th Anniversary kit with an 18” BD, 12” rack, 14” & 16” floor toms, SS Signature metal snare and SS 40thAnniversary Beech as a side snare.

No matter what format Steve is playing in he never fails to Mesmerize us! Steve is among the very best if not THE best all-around drummer in the world. Steve can do anything and make it look easy. One of my biggest Inspirations and influences since first seeing him live in 1980 in Chicago when he played with journey and he has progressively gotten better and better as the years go on Simply Amazing! There is only one other drummer that I have ever seen that continued to improve technically, musically and creatively through the years as time went on and that was Buddy. Need I say more?
