Listening to this while working is so motivating because I realize I've adopted a lot of what you said already! From reading to standing firm on beliefs/values (+ sharing them), it all just resonated. To know that you've built an authentic, relatable and integrity-based empire with these in mind is so empowering. Especially the part about being black, a woman and LGBTQ+. I used to be afraid to say, "yes I teach black women how to create their dream lives with their 9-5 incomes" because I would consistently hear, "well, what about everyone else? You're leaving money on the table." My response is always that there are tons of certified financial educators out there who talk about personal finance all day. But no one has dedicated a safe space for black women. Our lives, needs, challenges, desires etc. are unique. I needed that on my own journey and now I am fulfilling/building that bigger need. So I have decided to start journaling and taking notes. I bought a couple pretty notebooks, and I just took two solid pages of notes from this video. Thank you! I’ve said this before, but your calm delivery is just what I need to quietly believe I can do this. The hyper teachers just make me anxious, and I doubt I can do what they teach. I am obsessed with butterfly conservation, native wildflowers, and heritage/heirloom flowers. Not exactly hyper topics. Definitely passionate, though! I’m building a flower farm that will enchant the senses, engage the heart and mind in pollinator conservation, and equip people to make sustainable changes in their own environments that will support pollinators and biodiversity. I think your words about everything aligning with the big picture are profound. There are a million directions I could go, but I’m a teacher. So simplifying the complex is what I do. Teaching people to observe and understand their ecosystems, showing them how to attract monarchs, and assisting them to build pollinator habitats are my obsessions. I’m already well past my decade of obsession, although I’ve only been earning money off of this for a couple of years. Thank you again. That's my pet peeve. I need to rethink how I view 'Repeating Myself'. I also think it's great to re-read something new and terrific, especially if you are obsessed with something. What comes to mind with Arlan's advice about spending a decade on an obsession is Malcolm Gladwell's 10,000 hours. It certainly works!
