Miscellaneous Myths: Narcissus

  • You know his name. You know his personality disorder. But you don't know his story - especially not the gay bits!
Honestly, how many times are we going to be surprised when a greek myth turns out gayer than we learned in middle school? Remind me to tell you guys about Callisto sometime.
The Ancient Greek Dating Sim has a hidden character stat, "how much does aphrodite like me," which determines the trajectory of the entire game. It's impossible to predict what'll endear her to you and what'll piss her off.

Thing about that is, there was a serious "know your place" element to the idea of hubris. It wasn't so much not being arrogant, as it was trying to be anything you weren't already. Most of the stories that lasted long enough publicly to get written down were heavily weighted in support of the existing orders of the time. So every myth with the element of hubris was really telling people rebellion against the temples and whatever form of city leaders was basically pointless and doomed to failure. These are the people who made Prometheus, the creator of mankind, the bad guy in his own story for giving humans fire and with it civilization. That's not to say that the myths are entirely without merit, but Greek myths particularly made a habit out of revising local folklore into a larger pantheon by way of socio-political revisionism, and character modification.

Okay I have a question: Why not date Apollo? I know everyone that he ends up falling for ends up dead like they said in the video but so far it doesn't seem to be his fault, they either commit suicide (for....some reason I guess?) Or in that one case that one God got jealous and killed him (which I can't accept Apollo didn't kick Zypher's ass for.) So really none of it is really his fault.
Otherwise I might have suggested Hephaestus, sure he's not really a looker from most renditions but he's not a murderous psychopath either, problem is he did try to get rather frisky with Athena without her consent one time and I'm not one to suggest hooking up with rapists.
Now for girls.....yeah not a lot of options they're either not interested in love or already married, If you somehow managed to find and restore Echo back to her old self she seems nice enough but those are some big ifs.

  • @amberlyveil8856
    @amberlyveil8856 4 года назад +10

Of course, there's another version of Echo's tale...
Wherein Pan puts the moves on her, she repeatedly rejects him, and Pan, being the god of civility and restraint, promptly tears her to pisces...
    Nothing but her voice remains.
Even Echo's myths are echoes of each other. Not opposites, not parallel, merely beside one another.
Details differ, but the consequences are the same.
    Except in theming.
In one, the reader is left mainly with profound sadness for her fate.

Zeus "fell in love" with her and in order to...gain her trust or something...he transformed into...Artemis! Then he promptly forced himself upon Callisto. Then when the real Artemis discovered that Callisto was pregnant she banished the poor girl. Then Hera turned Callisto into a bear. Later Callisto's son almost kills his own mom while hunting (since he doesn't that the bear is his mom) when Zeus finally intervenes and turns both mother and son into constellations. That's a story with a lot of victim blaming.

I thought up two ace routes if anyone has any ideas to branch off of these I'd love to hear them! My two ideas are the shipper route and the nice girl/boy/person who listens, depends on which way you’d like to take it. So in the shipper route you can team up with Aphrodite and find all the ships (gay or otherwise) and you become besties with Aphrodite by the end, also may include: picking which god/mortal you help with their love life, having Zeus flirt with you and have Aphrodite smack him across the face, and accidentally starting the Trojan war. Some achievements are: All is fair as long as your ship sails, Shipping war, poor Apollo, the ship has sailed, and shipping besties. The second route is that you're Dionysus' right-hand man/woman/person and every god and mortal whose love life goes downhill (Apollo is there a lot) comes to Dionysus' bar and just complains, if you can get every god/mortal to get back out into the world of love you win! If not you get to feel sad about it for the rest of your life, some achievements include:
a shoulder to cry on, careful with that sword, Apollo's garden, no thanks, bro, and the bachelor party. These are just random ideas that popped into my head and I probably put way to much thought into this, hope you enjoyed all of this.

How would one unlock the achievements you listed? I can probs guess that 'Shipping War' is accidentally causing the Trojan war, but I'm not sure about the other ones. If you don't have them all decided, might I suggest that 'All is Fair as Long as Your Ship Sails' consists of breaking up a "canonical" couple (like Achilles/Patroclus, Eros/Psyche, Hades/Persphone, etc), or other such unethical things to get a ship together? Also achievement suggestions: #'Nice Going Casanova': Fail to get a ship together, #'Romeo/Juliet': Pair a couple together, only for them to die at the end (Achilles/Patroclus would be an easy way to get this achievement)
