Anyone depending on the system has serious problems, Homesteading for me, is creating my own system i can depend on, because you can only depend on yourself if you want to get somewhere.
I hiked to the other side of my mountain and the cat came the whole way and back with me. Good company. Then I emptied my rain barrels into my water storage bags. Gonna be a beautiful sunset in a bit. Happy homesteading!
Sort of, I'm just not an individualist. I believe community is among the most important parts of this lifestyle. Personal contribution to said community and exchange leads to the help that you will inevitably need. Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged is worth a read though and is pretty interesting.
You go to the doctors. When your expenses are next to nothing, the money you do make goes a lot further. We use a health share company that is significantly cheaper than an insurance company because it's non profit and is just as good of coverage. Lots of people who don't work for companies have health coverage.
I think what's scaring me about putting down roots in America and I do think could impact me on a very serious level is I am a transgender man in a gay relationship. I don't know if I need to say much more. It feels all the states that have the zoning laws and affordability I need, as far as I can tell, want me dead for simply existing despite being a human being that just seeks love, peace and to make a sustainable life that honors the Earth. I don't know if I'm wrong, maybe it's propaganda, but project 2025 /does/ sound like it wants me to cease existing. It's got me considering immigrating to another country. In Oregon where I feel safe, the strict zoning laws are so stringent I'm not sure I can pull it off. It's all so complicated. I just wish people could stop wanting to hurt others for how they look or what they believe in. That's what terrifies me the most in all of this.
I can understand that. I don't know if it's propaganda or not but I do know that the folks I've met out here care a lot more about the content of a person's character than gender identity, orientation, race or any other way of dividing people based on their differences. I had a lady reach out to me the other day asking a very similar thing. But she started by saying she can't stand being around Republicans and Christians because they won't listen to reason and won't change their minds. 😂 I said people don't respond well to people who are trying to change their minds. Contribute to the community, be a stand up person, stick to your agreements and handle your responsibilities and don't make every conversation about politics, your beliefs or how the other person is wrong for theirs and you should be fine. From what I can tell, project 2025 is a nothing burger that is so far outside the Overton window it'll never happen and has already been debunked as the actual plan. On another note, Easter Oregon has very lax zoning laws and is pretty easy to deal with building departments.
@@7kinhomestead I feel that to be true in experience as I work as a pet sitter in a rural city here in Oregon. So far I haven't met anyone who hasn't been kind when they've gotten to know me. I try to keep my heart open and believe in the good of humanity; honestly if I've got beef with anyone it's people like Jeff Bezos lol. I didn't know that about Eastern Oregon, I almost bought land in Klamath Falls but I was afraid and backed out after hearing there's a conflict on water rights with the indigenous people that I was afraid to get involved in. The things that scare me the most is hearing news of states passing laws that might make necessary medical care available to me, as well. I'll have to check out more of Eastern Oregon, though. I do love this state and I am well versed in the biome and native species here!
@louiswendlander9083 awesome!! Yeah, Klamath is beautiful and it seems most folks get along just fine as far as zoning so long as they're not causing trouble, ie, stealing, causing fires and making messes. I wish you the best of luck on your adventure.
The irony is the very system many Americans complain about is making the off grid living and many other things that require some personal effort to create your own kind of success. While making the old idea of success far less convenient and much more expensive. It probably costs you and your wife close to 200 dollars if you take your family out for fast food now.
Yep, that's kind of what I'm talking about here. People seem to be very tired of the old system but keep giving that system more power over them in an effort to change it. I just think it's a mistake. Yeah, last time we got fast food all together, I think it was $110. I was like, never again. 😂
@ well the nature of financial capitalism. Requires everyone to get in more debt. When you do things outside that system and free yourself from it. While still improving the quality of life for you and those around you. Look the most important number to most people in the current system is their credit score.
@kennethoneill4176 I believe you still can get Raw land for cheap, what won't be cheap is hiring people to do things, before you think about homesteading, get mentally prepared and skilled up, because the first few years will be hard work, most people don't make it. The more you know, the cheaper it will be, most people believe it's expensive because they see a fully established homestead, that takes years to accomplish.
@ right now I live in Las Vegas I have an area of Arizona I will buy some land in eventually. I have been moving around the country the last 8 years to figure out what environment I prefer to live in. I’m 46 .I don’t believe there will be shtf the off grid homesteading. I don’t eat a lot of meat any I have no reason to raise all the animals many people who homestead tend to try and raise. Heck if I stick to chickens for eggs and growing potatoes and sweet potatoes. And can grocery shop 2 times a month.
Even if I had the ability of to afford a house in the city. Between the plague of hoas and the increase in poverty taxes. If I want to live in the city it would be some city outside the USA. Las Vegas I can deal with

That's kind of the point of homesteading for everyone, whether they know it or not. Its all about what systems in what order.
Thanks for pointing that out
You're very welcome.
I'm working towards buying some land and living off grid. It's all i think about and all i want. Keep up the good work and inspirational words.
That's great!! Thank you!! Will do!!
Me two I have the land and the tiny house but I am still stuck in the city

Yep, I just took a nice little hike with my dog. Its beautiful out there today.
@ mine looks exactly the same as pre election. What about yours?
@ldygzlle1291 yep, maybe a little more rain since then but pretty well the same. 😂
"Power that we give them"
That's the trick!!
Mini van life in northern AZ. 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Pretty good
For sure!! 😁
Who is John Gault?

Ok, but what about healthcare? Some of us have chronic illnesses, and surely even you get injured or sick sometimes. How do you off-grid medical care?
