Its amazing how folks can take a piece of equipment and run it into the ground.....great job fixing it up. I have a mower with same silly throttle i just use a bungy cord and it works a treat.....i tried a wooden wedge and it just falls out......also isnt Andrew Camatha getting rid of the one he had? I see he was talking about getting rid of it.👌 great videos putting sweat equity into everything you do making it possible and affordable.
That was a very interesting video which I really enjoyed watching . I guess that prolonged use in hot weather will determine if the hood can withstand the heat from the muffler .
I was literally shocked that this unit had a gasser from the factory, usually these smaller rollers and plate compactors come with a single cylinder Hatz diesel engine.
sometimes wonder if it is worth it to get something that you need at a cheep price but then have to sink so much extra money just getting it running to where it should be?? Having that hood on does make a difference. enjoyed the way you added the kids in this video, with helping to get the little rabbits food bowls attached to his cage🙂, Look forward to the forward to next video🙂
I just put a gx630 in my Skidloader, the stock governor is set super low, and it’s pretty easy to adjust. When you’re going full throttle, you’re fighting the Honda governor and that’s why it won’t stay. It’s also why most compactors have the twist throttle like an airplane has. I run one of those airplane throttle cables with a tach, cuz I don’t want no stinking governor telling me what to do!!! Supposedly there is a rev limiter built into the Honda CDI could do you can’t over rev them
Nice you try to keep things a was designed.. An try to keep the unit working safely. You may need to add a plate to help keep the heat off the hoses !!!!
Hi Jesse recon I would get that button on the forward and reverse working for the vibration and the water working correctly then it would give you more control for laying tarmac and would certainly make it more appealing for a tarmac contractor on resale
It likely got a "craigslist paintjob" prior to sale, or has been restored at some point. Given the condition of that hard line im gonna guess it used to look well used, abused and beat up with more rust than paint on it.
Throttle return spring was weaker on the smaller motor that it had before, you need to either put it in a different hole on the throttle assembly or stretch/replace the spring.
Any machine with hydraulic steering will work without the engine running, most are just too heavy for you to use it. The piece by the steering wheel is essentially a hand operated hydraulic pump that provides fluid to the steering cylinder. With the engine running the fluid provided to that unit is pressurised, thus making it easier too steer.
Little Smooth drum packers are for compacting fine gravels or asphalt, the water is to keep the asphalt from sticking to the drum, not for gravel. Pad foot packers are for courser gravels and dirt.
re throttle cable: a friend had a similar problem on a large mower. He decided the internal cable what slides through he sheathing was too long. I don't recall how much he shortened it but on the second cut and re-bend it worked for him. I have no idea if such a mod would work for you. I just remember him saying the excess cable length was pushing the throttle back down.
All machines with hydraulic steering has what is called an orbitrol valve, it allows for proportional steering, but is also itself a small pump that can be used for emergency steering. Typically for larger machines, Gear reduction means you have to turn the steering wheel many times round when engine power is lost in order to steer.
Jesse, that first ignition switch was made by Indak, and is standard equipment on a lot of riding mowers and other mobile equipment. A screwdriver will work, but would tear it up. The second one is more of a commercial equipment switch, and should serve your purpose better. It too looks to be made by Indak.
Time to implement that "kid's channel" you talked of some time ago. I am in to construction, not a kid showing off (the older one seems to have much better manners). You have such an in depth interesting channel of building techniques, it isn't a good forum for kids.
I would line the rest of the plastic cover back toward the driver with heat sheild more to resuce noise than heat. Im always a fan of adding extra cooling so i would mount a fan to suck air past the muffler out through thevents just for some extra cooling.
I would simply look through the Stens catalog of Honda mufflers and found one thats tucked close to the engine and thats usually a zero turn or a little concrete dump buggy. We have ran dial single mufflers and made our own exit pipe to connect the 2 also
I love your statement that to attach throttle you need to replace engine cause throttle cable would not fit XD You are a good one... Btw. to save material do not cut at middle ( you did while making cap for air filter) but from the side.
Just FYI, Honda discontinued this GX engine because they didn't hold up well, however, we have one on a pressure washer at work, and it runs well, and has for the last couple of decades.
The drum water is only required when you're rolling asphalt, it helps stop the asphalt sticking to the drum and keeps it cleaner. Otherwise you don't need it. If you aren't going to roll asphalt I wouldn't bother fixing it. If you're compacting and use the drum water it'll probably just make everything stick to the drum, unless it's straight rock.
Jesse, what kinda plasma cutter do you have? Does it have its own compressor? I’m looking at getting one but I don’t know to look for when getting one.
Matt over at Diesel Creek had a big roller that broke down which I'm sure you could fix given your skill set. But he is over in PA which might be too far for you to go, and he might have already gotten rid if it. But it might be worth your while to give him a shout out.
It’s infuriating to see all the things that previous owners “fixed” on a perfectly good machine. Rather than just replace a battery, let’s move it under the seat and crudely plasma a hole in the seat pan, don’t deburr the edges, then rest the 50 pound battery on top some hydraulic fittings so they break. It’s like they went out of their way to ensure everything would break. Nice work Jesse.
Jesse I guess you can't wait to have your future garage because you seem to be cramped in this small garage and otherwise are you going to sink the foundation of the new garage this year because I may be wrong but the temperature is starting to be cold enough to pour concrete?
Awesome work sir! Is it better to buy a machine without the cheap paint jpb and just do it yourself right or does it matter? You see this at the auction a lot , the cheap rattle can turd polish hiding major problems!
when putting them types cables together ur suppose to use a cable lube or even a spray gel lube i honestly think thats one of the reason they come separated.. defiantly dont use just normal wd40.. & i say it needs a spring all cables like that have a spring normally a return spring and could be the type with the circles at the end of the spring why there isnt no tiny holes anywhere making u think there isnt suppose to be a spring
Have always enjoyed your work over the years but in recent times too much unnecessary talk Jessie. A lot of it is explaining why you’re not going to do something. But still I do like your videos. I do watch a lot of similar videos, many in Upstate NY. Which is a long way from here in Auckland NZ😊
Jesse suggestion put a cable on the new hood to stop from snaping off the hinges great video again send me a address i would like to send you somethings
11:35 that looks like a common practise in US, using ”close enough” tools. In elsewhere where everything is metric, there is always thr correct wrench awailable.
You may find this hard to believe but we have both metric and SAE tools available here in the United States. Each version is as just easy to acquire as the other. In reality, he probably needed an SAE tool in that spot and not your precious "superior" metric tools.
29:59 Maybe wheel has a screw rod that pushes a cyliner and hoses of that cylinder to to articulating frame cylinder. That would be very easy and simple to make.
I keep seeing people talk about the price of hydraulic hose and they seem really expensive. Then i see hose crimping machines on market place in the $2500 range. Would that not save you money in the long run? Or is the price of rolls of hose and fittings more than i think it is?
You have the patience of Jobe, and no cursing!
Good job Jesse!
Well that was a handsome little machine - at the end.
A nice treat for a Saturday afternoon.
1 hour and twenty minutes of Jesse yes please love the channel.
Your problem solving skills are amazing.
Great video, Jesse. Enjoying watching you solve those mechanical mysteries! 👍

I was literally shocked that this unit had a gasser from the factory, usually these smaller rollers and plate compactors come with a single cylinder Hatz diesel engine.
I assumed that the water facility was for preventing the rollers from sticking up with hot roll tarmac.
sometimes wonder if it is worth it to get something that you need at a cheep price but then have to sink so much extra money just getting it running to where it should be?? Well if nothing else,it’s a cute little machine. I can see we’re it would be good for pad work.
I ran a bigger roller and i filled the drums with old oil. Regards from South Africa
If it's like Kohler V-twins the instant shutoff is ignition kill, the other shutoff is a fuel solenoid in the carb.
Thank you very much for the video. 👍🤗👍🇸🇯

Man, that thing's minty fresh for being a 2006!
It likely got a "craigslist paintjob" prior to sale, or has been restored at some point. Given the condition of that hard line im gonna guess it used to look well used, abused and beat up with more rust than paint on it.
First! Big fan of yours!
Throttle return spring was weaker on the smaller motor that it had before, you need to either put it in a different hole on the throttle assembly or stretch/replace the spring.
Maybe remove the spring and replace with a linkage, no need for return spring as it will be operated at the trottle stick.
@@janus3759 I'd agree except it sounds like it also has a governor, based on the behavior he's observed.
A hydraulic shop not far from me brazes hydraulic lines together for emergencies, but most of them have been in service for a lot of years.
Little Smooth drum packers are for compacting fine gravels or asphalt, the water is to keep the asphalt from sticking to the drum, not for gravel. Pad foot packers are for courser gravels and dirt.
Another great video thanks Jesse
Nice work! Gets some decals on that and you will sell it quick and make a tidy profit.
Good job Jesse. Thank you for sharing.

Textbook wrench flipping. Lost art
With a bit of work and bush fix thining the work is done very well.
Jesse, that first ignition switch was made by Indak, and is standard equipment on a lot of riding mowers and other mobile equipment. A screwdriver will work, but would tear it up. The second one is more of a commercial equipment switch, and should serve your purpose better. It too looks to be made by Indak.
Your kids are adorable!
Great fixs video Jess
To bad at takes so many man hours up when you buy some of these equipments.👍
Time to implement that "kid's channel" you talked of some time ago. I am in to construction, not a kid showing off (the older one seems to have much better manners). You have such an in depth interesting channel of building techniques, it isn't a good forum for kids.

Jesse, this may not a full restoration it is certainly on the way with a few more tasks. Every thing done was done in that direction.

If you burn a hole thru the hood, put a bonnet scoop over the burnt bit and a couple of gt stripes!
The drunk baby made more sense than the president.🍻

Hydraulic steering pump the wheel is attached to.
This video needs more sunglasses and trucking.
New workshop coming?😊
Power cables like that are simply welding cables and longer ones are easily obtained and ends put on.
Crazy to think someone replaced the motor then ran it without a filter. Makes you wonder why the first motor had to be replaced.
Put a hole in the blk cover & use a longer bolt for the air filter??? 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍
That engine looking just like my honda gx690 and Amazon sells the air filter
"I just have way too much stuff" join the club.
Tighten the nut at the pivot under the air cleaner
1:04:28 Battery check good!
Just FYI, Honda discontinued this GX engine because they didn't hold up well, however, we have one on a pressure washer at work, and it runs well, and has for the last couple of decades.
I found out it was a gx630
The green piece that came with the filter is your prefilter.
The drum water is only required when you're rolling asphalt, it helps stop the asphalt sticking to the drum and keeps it cleaner.

If you're compacting and use the drum water it'll probably just make everything stick to the drum, unless it's straight rock.
Think about engine header wrap for the muffler to shield the hood from heat. Just a thought.
That Noah is a hoot
3500 1000 in repairs, you get your use out of it.
when it's done. 10 to twelve thousand dollars in resale value
Easy beze butter busy.
Jesse, what kinda plasma cutter do you have? Does it have its own compressor? I’m looking at getting one but I don’t know to look for when getting one.
Cool roller!
I would put some type of cables on that hood before the plastic break off at the hinges.

Probably a friction disc fir throttle

yes, we are almost ready to pour
It sounds to me like a real rip off with that kind of money for a short hydraulic hose.
BTW, a man can never have to much stuff !!
Awesome work sir! Is it better to buy a machine without the cheap paint jpb and just do it yourself right or does it matter? You see this at the auction a lot , the cheap rattle can turd polish hiding major problems!
Nice work, Thank you
I wonder if a stiff spring on the throttle handle will help hold it at full throttle.
38:59 have you changed your Makita charger tune by plugging the battery multiple times?
Some washer fluid or camper winterizer fluid in the drums for extra weight
I bought one of them rd11 rollers last year its got its issues but alwase gets the job done
when putting them types cables together ur suppose to use a cable lube or even a spray gel lube i honestly think thats one of the reason they come separated.. defiantly dont use just normal wd40.. & i say it needs a spring all cables like that have a spring normally a return spring and could be the type with the circles at the end of the spring why there isnt no tiny holes anywhere making u think there isnt suppose to be a spring
Hello Jesse, wouldn’t your roller for your skid steer do an adequate job for you to pack down the gravel Just curious
Prob would but he gots the cheese so he uses it as he please
it actually quit on me. I greased it up and it no londer vibrated. I explain it in the next video
Hope you can get the replacement parts ..😂😂🎉
Wenn man 700,- für ne Plastikhaube bezahlt muss man aber auch Schmerzen im Kopf haben.😂
👍

Jesse suggestion put a cable on the new hood to stop from snaping off the hinges great video again send me a address i would like to send you somethings
When you have time u could put that heat shield over the slots and cut them out maybe for summer.😅
crazy dejavu watching this vid lol, good watch as usual tho

You have to teach Noah how to holler “GUD”! Lol
29:59 Maybe wheel has a screw rod that pushes a cyliner and hoses of that cylinder to to articulating frame cylinder. That would be very easy and simple to make.
32:39 looks like i was correct, it’s just revolving pump.
Need to add a cable to the hood, so it won't brake
Use a tarp strap to hold throttle that’s what we do when we rent a machine just like that
I keep seeing people talk about the price of hydraulic hose and they seem really expensive. Then i see hose crimping machines on market place in the $2500 range. Would that not save you money in the long run? Or is the price of rolls of hose and fittings more than i think it is?
Should have been a brigs engine the long handle by the steering wheel is the choke and the rocker switch is the throttle at least it is on ours
Also the throttle was electric
Put on a pair of gloves and twist flex pipe to inlarge or shrink ?
Add a suicide knob to the steering wheel and call it done.
yea I should
So , 4 hose clamps does not fix a leak?
Jesse...Wouldn't it been cheaper to just rent a roller for this project?
For the throttle use a strong spring?
👍👌
Honda 690 exhaust side mount $159 Northern tool
I heard that Andrew C has one of those rollers for sale 😂
Andrew C. has a single drum that he hates. You might want to talk to him.
