How to unlock there story
The Switch version of this game really saved Hendrik's character in Act 3 to me. His relationship with Jasper went from not having any kind of conclusion in Act 3 to having a conclusion that's actually a lot more satisfying than Act 2 Hendrik and Jasper ever got.
Why does the music sound like the MIDI version? It's definitely not the fully orchestral version, at least not when he's wandering the halls. It's really jarring to me after playing through this myself.
@@morganritson523 you can change the version of music used in the settings, orchestral or midi.
Really this fight was a real tear jerker to get through.

If you let the fight go on a little bit in the last form, the darkness starts to consume jasper and damage him. Its quite sad :(
And one move can kill booth of them the move that damaged hendrik if you do it and have the scripted crit with dmg boots and def down you can die and lose this fight
I always cry watching this scene. I think it’s beautiful that once Jaspers soul has been cleansed, all he needs to know to truly Rest In Peace is know that Hendrik was still his friend. So pure!

I was having regrets starting act 3 until I got to this moment. The notion of leaving my companions behind in a timeline that may or may not still exist gave me such a strange feeling, and I was hesitant to keep going, despite all the nice content the post game may have. I loved Act 1 and 2 that much, and would have been fine with it ending at the end of act 2.
Then I got to this part and it changed my mind. Hendrik is probably my favorite character in the game, so seeing him get a proper arc conclusion with Jasper gave me peace of mind.
A new timeline wasn’t created. Time was reversed and the future merged with the past. The entire reason for the Luminary reversing time was to save people, and creating a new timeline would not save anyone.
Hendrik can vaguely recall that certain things happened with Jasper in the future and others can recall certain things because they still have the same soul as in the future.

S has got to be one of my fave 'definitive' editions of a game. Awesome stuff. Also if you take your time with the fight Japser actually starts to hurt himself which is depressing.
Imagine if Jaspers spirit actually helped Hendrick in fights. Like attacked when he did and stuff. Literally like there's 2 Hendricks whenever Hendrick is out, but one is Jasper. And got added to party chat. Maybe I'm asking for too much...
It would have been a neat Pep Power. They could have even called it the "Unswerving Companions". Ah well... Maybe whenever there is a remake of this brilliant game.

I think a better way i could've phrased this was probably a hendrik exclusive buff that sacrifices his defense in order to allow Jasper to do a regular dual sword attack after Hendriks turn, or a pep power where Jasper does a strong attack. With Jasper being a ghost and all it sounds like something either Rab or Serena would help with.
Or just outright an expensive skill panel that adds Jaspers regular dual sword attack to Hendricks attacks and offensive skills. I still would've loved to hear Jaspers take on things, but this game is still wonderful.

I kept Hendricks gold armor after I finished this side quest. In honor of his friend.
Jasper was always one of the most interesting characters from the original game to me, so I was really disappointed by how lamely they killed him in the post-game (but then, it'd be easier to name story events the post-game DIDN'T ruin), so I'm glad he was given a slightly better death in this version. Still would have prefered if he simply survived though, his death in the new timeline didn't seem all that necessary to me.
Imho the post-game plot of Jasper is well done and adds another layer to his character-arc - now he was not only not able to not surpass Hendrik, but he also failed to proof himself worthy to his dark master. He basically betrayed his king and friend to gain nothing, but loose everything - a true deal with the devil.
Only with repenting and helping his old friend on his quest to aid the hero, he can now stand equally with Hendrick - gain what he wished for.
I’m disappointed that certain events like Mia and Erik are handled in a less significant amount of esteem, but the post game is still fungi playthrough as well as rematching all the bosses, not to mention Veronica being back in the party.
The postgame didn’t “ruin” shit.

Damn, Jasper got a new redemption arc? Cool.
I wish their were more fights like this in the game, fights that are more story than challenge, but you're still playing them, so every move you make has more weight.
Really great quest that wraps up Jaspers and Hendriks storyline.
Kinda wish we could've saved him at the world tree or sooner but that would've required Hendrik to look past Mordegons disguise beforehand, which his blind chivalry didn't allow at the time.
I love that they reference the original timeline.
In this game you only have 8 party members but after this scene you get a spiritual 9th party member. Jasper deserved better. Glad he didn't stay a villain. But also just saying they could have given Hendrik more than a suit of armor and a new costume. What would have made it even better is if Hendrik got a new ability like the Divide ability that Erik has, but for Hendrik's it would have Jasper appear next to him and Hendrik would get two extra hits since Jasper wields two platinum swords. If it did exist I would imagine it might be called Brothers in Arms or something like that. Yes, I know they aren't brothers but they likely had that kind of bond since they grew up together.
I got to that fight and found I was 1 hit from death with no magic exactly when Jasper was just hurting himself. So it was this sick moment where they fought, and were both tired, but Hendrick who still fought on!
I'm in act 3 and I can't get the quest to start im baffled

The whole reason this fight is so good is because of Jaspers actions. Like once he turns back to regular Jasper & all of his attacks become so weak.

Right?! And I think there was also a moment when Jasper is overwhelmed by his pain and it causes him to inflict damage on himself.
I was only in like the low 70s when I did this quest and was using Axes at the time so the fight wasn't going so fast with Parallax and Scrap Mettle. Glad I didn't hold this off.

I got to see ALL the dialogue cause i was just SO sad about taking Jasper down that I stalled by healing and buffing so i didnt have to attack. So i saw all that HEART wrenching dialogue and jasper being torn apart from the inside out and URGH right before being destroyed he says “Hen....drik...” AND I CRIED. Im so sad the full effect of this scene wasn’t fully seen.

Can Jasper's actor sound just a *tad* less sinister when trying to be sympathetic? XD
I think he loses the sinister edge slightly the moment he says "How long I have waited to hear those words..."

Whats the music you hear in this boss fight
Yeh you did too much damage to him, there are extra tidbits and voice lines that you miss that really talk about his pains and their relationship during the fight, not to mention the darkness leaving him.
One thing 3D mode doesn't show is that the enemy Jasper has a name:
Shadow Jasper
And his transformed name is "Jasper Unhinged"
Unfortunately I took to calling him Ghasper and kinda ruined the effect of the names lmbo

Anyone know the song that plays as you walk through the castle after this whole scene? I swear it's different than the balcony song.
This event happens at sunset, and at the end of the cutscene, evening has fallen. The music in the castle changes to the night version. If you look for Dragon Quest XI Imperial Palace (Night), you'll find out here on RUclips.

Me too. I would've loved to have him in my party, have to level him up and get irritated about not having enough skill points for a new ability all over again. The armor is cool and all, but it's just not enough. I mean... at least a new pep power or SOMETHING if not him in general so we can see him every now and then... ya' know?

I think its so stupid that we could save EVERYONE else in act 3 with the power of the luminary but couldn’t save Jasper???? That is such bs im still really sad about it!!!!!!! I don't think Jasper deserved redemption. Didn't he want to kill all the villagers in Cobblestone? Hendrick stopped him. Not to mention he almost ended the world helping Mordegon.

The Switch and PS4 Definitive Editions are the same game.
@@Bazoinkerz no, switch versions is Called Dragon Quest XI S. The Orignal DQXI came out in 3DS, then the PS4 and PC are the definitive editions. Then S came out and it’s the second definitive editions for Switch, Xbox, and PS4. Not sure if PC has the S version.

Battle theme is Distant Memories, from Dragon Quest III (SNES version onward).
it's a greatsword you can buy at cobblstone after you fix it.

No
But you can just do it for the cosmetic in the switch if you want... which I think is a nice touch.
Drustan's armour set is the best set for Hendrik but you can change the appearance
Curious why you said this was S. To my knowledge, the Switch version is the only version with an orchestral score Vs the "Midi" one.

Well, I've been hearing that you need to marry Hendrick in order for this bonus quest to appear. (Unfortunately, not every character gets a bonus mission when you marry them)

I actually nearly died when I tried it at the same time you did. I survived to the point Jasper started getting devoured by his inner darkness while Hendrick was near death himself. It looked like two former friends fighting to the death. It was sad. :(

There's three trials in the post-game that lets you find them in chests.
They're optional but they're accessed via that one magically sealed door in the ruins of Zwaardsrust, to the west of the Warrior's Rest Inn.
You get able to open it near the end of Act 3.
I think the shield and helmet are found in a chest and the armor has to be made on the forge after you find the recipe in a chest in the trial dungeons.
You don't need the shield for the costume, but it matches the name of the other two.
@@Iyasenu The helmet is in the first trial (2nd area) and the armor is in the third trial (behind a red magically sealed door). You don't need to craft them.

He came back as a vengeful spirit
Its explained in the game a couple times people killed by monsters dont just move on. Mordegon killed him in act 3 so Jasper became this.

Tbh the weak plot was act 3 but it did had its benefits, and I can’t lie to you when I tell you that this scene was so sad, I just couldn’t kill jasper and I never liked him to begin with but this scene showed me something different and that is what changed my opinion in Jasper

Well it was a huge complaint with players that Hendrik and Jaspers resolution did not get resolve in Act 3 since Act 2 timeline is gone. Also in the Beginning of Act 3 Jasper die with Hendrik not know why he fell into darkness. Lucky they add this in the definitive edition.
John Ngo Yeah exactly, totally agree. Though when I played on PS4 it didn’t really occur to me.
