I'm doing datamining on it (after extracting pakchunk0-Switch.pak and pakchunk1-Switch.pak), and I wouldn't say it's "built from the ground up", that's spreading misinformation. Most of the assets are basically the same from PS4 (that was compiled with Unreal Engine 4.14), except for 3D graphics being downgraded (the pakages for PS4 is 40 GB while Switch is around 13 GB). Basically everything from PS4 is all there and in the same folder paths, same file names, and everything (Switch's was compiled with Unreal Engine 4.18). Hell, the 2D mode stuff is ported over from the 3DS, the folder that contains it is called "TripleData_Multi". I haven't played much with that yet. I think it uses Paper2D? Sure there's a ton of new stuff added (I wanted to rip all of the new artwork, which I did and plan on sharing to reddit later), but the core engine is literally the same thing. Like Witcher 3, it was a matter of getting what they built to work on the Switch.
@@JacienV Of course a lot of the assets are basically going to be the same, its still basically Dragon Quest XI. That doesn't change. That doesn't mean its a port, though. I'm pretty sure that if you took apart the PC version, it would also be almost identical to the PS4, but I don't hear people calling the PC/PS4 version a port. You just need to create them once, then adjust them from there. The point is that the Switch version was made alongside the other versions, it just took longer to finish.
Finished this game already on PS4, but after getting through my current backlog, I may have to pick this up on Switch too for the extra content. It took 108 actions to me to defeat these at Lv99 with a much extra status increasing by seeds, though I didn't use Yggdragon's Blessing or a pep pop during the fight. About that they used another colored version of Mordegon I didn't find it bad in this case. Story-wise it makes sense that he tried to revenge from the timeline the hero had "reset". Also it's like Edahs 'Sohpix in DQ Swords overseas version which I really wish we had in the original.
You were so much more efficient than I was. I did not know Yggdragon’s blessing was a thing. That would’ve been helpful. It took me 130 turns to win. On my win, Kerplunk did not work out for me. Everyone died anyway and the reserve party came out. I found prioritizing debuffs was a better idea than buffing my party because of that disruptive wave. The best group I found was Hero, Rab, Veronica, and Serena. The magic burst strategy kept getting thwarted so I gave up on it. It was a slow win, but my party stopped dying. I ended up doing a cycle of kaboomle, deceleratle, (ka)sap, sword of light debuff removal, benevolessence, insulatle, multiheal/omniheal, and Sage’s elixirs (I only had 1 or 2 elfins). If the opportunity was there, I would sword dance or wild animaul. And if they kasap or deceleratle me I would kabuff or acceleratle ASAP. Towards the end, I realized Jade never got a chance to attack it so I switched her in for Veronica (I ran out of sage elixirs anyway). Rab then died, so I played it safe/defensively for a few turns, and it turned out that the Timewyrm was one multithrust away from dying. So I won with Hendrik, Erik, and Rab dead on the bench. Really wish I knew about those pep powers. I never realized they were still that good.
I guess it kinda makes sense when you think about it. In Act 3, you never do fight full powered Mordegon in that form normally because of what happens differently. So it would actually be like a time paradox, fuller powered version of Mordegon. Since stronger, golden variants of enemies are a thing already in the game, it fits with that thematic that Dragon Quest XI has. Along with a hat tip reference to the Dragon Ball franchise, since turning golden is what represents Frieza's stronger form too.

I have the game on PC, and I agree....Switch is bullshit.
@@ShenMerrick ? Really? But i fought them on pc...
@@hollymolly518 That sentence doesn't make sense.
@@hollymolly518 You fought the normal one on pc
@@ShenMerrick It's called exclusivity just like how Activision made the survivor mode an exclusive game mode for ps4 for a year. It's bullshit yes but that's what exclusives do
Farm strength seeds and get your dps toons to 999, make it easy on yourself
Not really just 4 days ago I beat this guy using this strategy, only with the team al level 99 and the maximum weapons and armor, not need to farm seeds only skill just because I like have all the abolity board full.
I'd make a Whovian joke, but I only knew the Timewyrm existed searching this up
…. Yeah, I’m not doing all that. I’m fine with the Platinum trophy.
I'm still playing the game and your comment gave me relief. I thought this is part of the platinum trophy
You couldve used serena to lower the magical def
If Mordegon wasn't the final boss...and Calasmos was the true final boss...This is what? The truuest final boss or something?
An optional version of the "final boss" , a switch exclusive one
one of the trials bosses perhaps?
Wait!
How did he get the Super Sword of Light?
You get the Super Sword of Light in the post-game after going back up to Yggdrasil.
I managed it in 66 turns, took three tries as well
What’s the name of this theme?
I'm pretty sure its just the Mordragon/Mordragon's Tail battle theme
@@linhardtvonhevring7318 It's Called Stake My Life On It
The amount of extra content of the switch edition is stupid, i paid full price for the Game to.
Yup, screw Nintendo and Square if they don't release this content on the other platforms. I play it on PC personally.
Yeah and you a shit ton of content too. Get over it. This is a version releasing more than a year later.
I mean, it’s a remake, I’d hope it has more content
ShenMerrick You’re crazy if you think Nintendo will allow square to release the content on other platforms
@@aaronr.265 It's not a remake, it's just a port with some extra content added.
sometimes i wish i didn't have the switch version so i don't have to deal with this shit.
He's optional tho
how many pep pops did you have during this fight?
Counted about 11or so
How can I fight this boss?
You have to defeat the last boss of the 2d world and when you leave that world a message will appear on the screen with information about this boss.
Is this a boss after calasmos?
I’m guessing it’s an optional boss that you get after doing all the Tickington content
Yes, to both of you. The last tickington quest can't be cleared until you beat Calasmos. So it is an optional post Calasmos boss.
Wasn't the Timewyrm also in the 3DS version?
No it wasn't.
No you fought a super powered up version of calasmos instead
@@Ghostface711 which is also in the switch version
TKWizard What the one you fight that’s covered in darkness?
Plant Gang No. In tickington you can fight a golden lookin’ Calasmos.
Can you please do a tickington tutorial
How do you access this boss?
Ty shadowflame You have to beat every quests of Tinktington on every altars :)
@@antzsharkor6777 funny. I was just starting on that tickington quest
@@tyshadowflame6973 Man, you gotta find all the pastwords from those little traveling ghosts all over the place. That one takes forever.
good job!
Where can I farm bottles of effin elixirs?
Sharon Porter i don’t think you can farm them from monsters. You would have to trade 1k tokens at the casino for a bottle
@@chaidreams5589 oh k thanks for letting me know
Its actually more efficient to steal Mini Medals from Vicious Penny Pinchers in The Cruel Crypt and trade them with Maxime Medailles
@@linhardtvonhevring7318 wouldn't it be more efficient just pressing one button all the time or do Auto thing on the Slime Machine.
This made me dislike this game
How do I actually access this boss? ._.
You need to complete the tiktokington quests, after you do that the time rift appears.
Ben Eklom ah thought so I’m stuck on 3 of them though
God I hate this boss, a good boss does not have infinite turns x2 for every party member that exists. Why are you giving the tail Oomphle? He already kills me in one hit, full health, no debuffs! Magical Mist, for your MP spending needs! No, it's okay! I'm sure you'll love it! Erik? I just revived you, are you hit with sleep? But the sleep animation doesn't have you on the ground, silly!
I dunno if im gonna do this boss. In fact, im just a casual gamer so I never go out of my way to try it. But maybe this one time, I"ll try the Tickington side quest to see if I can even get that far.
Lmao trunks
pretty sure you can ez mode this by spamming channel anger->Magic burst and poison->divide->move that quadruples on psn (erik) thats how i beat calasmos in 2 turns lol
Nope, I already tried this. He hits real hard, you'll be lucky to keep squishies like Erik and Veronica alive. He also casts disruptive wave, so bye bye channel anger and oomphle for Erik. Disruptive wave might even get rid of dopplegangers, I'm not sure. It's a hard fight, that's for sure. He basically uses all elements so you can't try to specialize your defences against just one or two. Apparently there's some nifty pep powers people have used to skate by, but... I'm tossing in the towel for the day lol.
I just spammed victimizer with Erik and Double down when they are together.
Managed to finish it within 89 Turns.
Could be faster if i decide to farm seeds and get Erik attack to 999
oh gods why is hendrik using a greatsword? for the love of the gods reupload this with him using two swords and spaming griflacon slash or two axes and using paralax
I clutched this at 116 moves, it was insane... wish I trained up to 99 before it
Gg you have already complete the game in less than one week 😂
this too hard u get one hit even u are 99
don't tell me these two are easier than Calasomos
they are way harder than calasmos
This fucker, Overweening Pride and End of Time make Calasmos look like a cake walk.
U can see has different has heart on fire
Meh just looks like mordegon and mordragon to me...
Crikey! I cannae beat im under 56 moves!
Lol rab is that you

160 hours of gameplay and I find that the toughest enemy is a recolor
This is very upsetting not only because this is what your hard work has been leading up to, but also because it just feels so lazy.
I guess I can't complain though, other versions don't even get all this extra stuff (also people will get mad if I complain)
Dq8 on the 3ds did new content better....
SimpalSimon Ok?

Just put psi effects and boom, you got earthbound 4.
(PS4 exclusive)
i thought veronica died.. wtf
Lol really? Havent you finished the game??
Lol this is almost like cheating the way you did this. Although you certainly could have done a lot better had you swapped the odd Sylvando in here & there to Oomphle the Hero & Hendrik. You doing these attacks without any buffs makes my strategy prone brain hurt.
i hate dq 11 music..
Do the actual boss, don't just spam pep powers
