Hildegarde von Bingen is a saint. She was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church by Pope Benedict because of her extensive writings apart from her music, which is also extensive. She wrote books of devotional exercises for the convent that she supervised, and in addition, she wrote books on the healing powers of plants from her botanic studies. She was a gem of learning in the so-called Dark Ages.
she is a patron saint of us crunchy people lol
+J Zannieri thank you for this information
Dark ages for ignorant people.
J Zannieri not really. It was the best time of knowledge for everyone who wanted to know. But the mean people of the time as always destroyed everything. The irish monks kept all that knowledge through time.
all believers in Jesus are saints.
Medieval music is truly like an enchantment....
But only if done well -- which this most certainly is.
How so?
This is Gregorian Chant style.
Chanticleer has always been known for stunning countertenor voices. Some things never change!
What is the name of the countertenor?
I did not know she composed for countertenor!
@@marietteestabrook4098 I suspect that she initially wrote for an alto, but since Chanticleer are a male group, they subbed in a countertenor to perform the alto role
I've never heard about Hildegard before this week. I read a little bit about her these days during one of my university classes. Now I am a new fan! Her music is fantastic!!!!
There is simply nothing else like this in the world
Beautifully worded, John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt, Holy Hildegard must've opened a new gate to better world the centuries ago.
As incredible as this sounds to us, imagine you are the singer, as the notes pass through your body upon creation. Then you experience directly the reverberation, along with those of your comrades.
Transcendent.
Yes. A good harmony produces a vibration in the body. An amazing sensation!
Who sings the main voice?
Indeed.
Oh my lord 😢 that's the most beautiful thing I've ever heard
In perfect sync, without appearing to count. Or breathe. Whoa....
I do hear a slight fluctuation at 2:51 in the bass, but overall I agree it's an impressive execution.
Saint Hildegard would have been pleased, this is pure perfection! Thank you! ♥
Nikola Eftimov I think she would be confused on how come this guys voice is too high
Hildegarde was way ahead of her time. Incredible performance.
She was a rare human being, who was political, spiritual, intellectual, curious, supremely musical, shunned possessions, and was most importantly, a record keeper. Assigning the label of intelligent to an individual that does not write stuff down, can be called into question.
I am without words........like walking in paradise.
What stunning singing. Ethereal and so moving.
This is wonderfully powerful as it is beautiful! The sheer force of it takes us to Heaven!
Just wish it could keep us there. I'm certain St. Hildegard is very pleased.
This is timely with 2,000th anniversary of when Jesus walked the Earth.
How are there people who doesn't like this subliminal chant????
This is SUPERB!!!! Another dimension.....a sacred alchemy between words, music and mystery. So beautiful!!!
Thank you Chanticleer!!!!
Obviously there are people who do it just because, and obviously they lack sensitivity, a shame because they miss it. Greetings
Nothing short of amazing, the day you guys stop singing is the day I give up on music.
I always come back to this. Beautiful.
Simply amazing! I have goosebumps all over....
I also. The interpretation is so beautiful, it moves me to such an extent that it cannot be expressed in words. I also love that way of presenting themself without a director on stage that always breaks the magic in my opinion. Greetings
This is the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard.
Please, Please include this on your next album, it exquisitely beautiful. I've listened to other versions of this piece but yours is by far the best.
this is the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard
Simply stunning! Like being transported to another (better) world.
I really like the subtle tonic and dominant droning pedal tone!
I've always been a sucker for really deep, low basses...but those countertenors brought me to tears. Such a soft yet rich tone, such immaculate vocal control with the little trills, such a beautiful blend of voices.
Chanticleer is truly on another level when it comes to this. Insanely well done, everyone.
Mesmerizing. Soul stirring. I believe Hildegard herself would be enchanted
Just amazing counter tenor voices. Off to find more about Chanticleer.
Wow, this is real art, and thinking about the meaning of this song, incredible
So awesome and hauntingly beautiful! all voices as one voice. Thank you.
wow. i think i'll start every day with this so I am one with the universe. amazing amazing

You're all flawless
Gorgeous and so well done! Thank you -
Was blessed to have heard these gentlemen perform twice. The only thing that would have been truly magical, is if they did the concerts at local cathedral, St Cecilia's, with it's incredible acoustics. She is patron saint of music.⛪🎶
Great music por a great performance!
Божественно красиво!!!!!
благодарю вас!
I've missed you guys!
Simply magnificent!
Can you folks imagine that she didn't know how to write down music: no music education, no keys. She said that God placed music and poetry into her heart. I bet she's praying from up there for us, sinners.
Que surpreendente !!! Nunca imaginei que essa linda música pudesse ser cantada por homens !!! Simplesmente MARAVILHOSO !!!
Beautiful .......
Fantastic performance!
How beautiful.
Exquisite. Perhaps we Americans crave ancient music that we don't always produce at such a high caliber? Joy this day in the Covid Era. Dec. 24, 2022
Thank You

Can we just pause for a moment and slow clap for this vocal magicrey
Enchanting
My favorite of all time 😎💗👍🤟🙏
That's the sound of my jaw dropping.
Divinity in flesh, now in Chanticleer, in the Middle Ages, Holy Hildegard.
WOW!!!!
We are singing this for All state choir next year (high school treble)
THIS IS MUSIC
good vocal piece in the early music era
O frondens virga
in tua nobilitate stans
sicut aurora procedit:
nunc gaude et letare
et nos debiles dignare
a mala consuetudine
liberare
atque manum tuam porrige
ad erigendum nos.
Gloria Patri et Filio
et Spiritui Sancto.
Sicut erat in principio
et nunc et semper
et in secula seculorum.
Amen.
What texture does this piece begin in? And when in the recording does it change?
No translation?
@@barbarasmith6005
oh branch
standing in your nobility
as the dawn advances
now rejoice and be glad
and we deign to be weak
bad practice
release
and extend your hand
to get up.

(ad erigendum nos) repeatedly

Wow
Holy Flipping Flip Flip!
I'm dead. I love this so much.
Is there an MP3 of this that may be purchased please?
What texture does this piece begin in? And when in the recording does it change?
is there a string quartet version of this? 🤔
Does anyone know what instrument is making that mysterious drone sound in the background?
What texture does this piece begin in? And when in the recording does it change?
The human voice is making that drone sound. Watch the men who look like they aren't singing and now and then you'll see them take a breath to continue to hold the lower notes.
Thanks for asking that question; I was wondering myself--is the drone from an instrument or voices?
The tremolo at 0:37, 0:43, 0:56, 1:06, 1:25, 1:39 sounds like it could be an oriscus in the source music. Can anyone verify?
Oriscus has it's origins in gregorian chant, seems like you're right to me!
No, it's a quilisma.
What is the vocal technique he uses at :57 called?
Tremolo.
are 1098-1179 the years where these songs originated?
Kurose Chan no that was how long she lived
Joshua Burrows which is insane for that time.
Are polyphonic moments originally composed by Ildegard, or are they an elaboration of Chanticleer?
An elaboration, as is the drone.
YEET
PAINT, Anyone !?
Un peu plus de legato dans cette monodie serait magnifique.
its a pity they dont have countratenor with
... and for desert a fourth , and then - enjoy :D
Opa
Kinda sounds like Halo
You mean Halo sounds like this. This was written a thousand years before Halo and the musical style goes back even further lol.
But two octaves higher
what language is this in
Latin.
Specifically a dialect of Latin the Composer invented.
It's Latin!
Might be Spanish but the Chinese guy is throwing me off
Tad - It's Latin, a dialect created by Hildegard von Bingen.
