The closest thing i know of, close meaning another representation of a historically caucasian genre, is a track i believe is called Hills of Donegal. Its a Celtic sounding ballad and its hilarious. **edit: Fields of Donegal**
Pavle Zvekić ,I'm from the foothills of the Appalachian mountains in NC, if he doesn't have a clue, he's pretty fucking good, cause that song oozed old school bluegrass
Reggie has had several albums before he went to this particular "style". Look up the group Maktub if you want to hear him sing in a more conventional way. "Uptown Feeling" is a really nice track.
Yeah...I'm equally astounded at how many people don't get his comedy!! It seems that people are baffled when a person does something that doesn't fit in the classic format of things. Thanks for your post. Cheers.
"Few things first off right off the bat, just want to make a few things clearer: The last person in here was entered into a contest for last person in here. And wins a special prize. That last person WILL be announced at the end of the evening and that person is going to have a really nice time with the package that we've developed here with Webster hall. A little house keeping: Webster hall IS owned by the 80's sitcom character Webster."
One of the tricks that Reggie uses is that lyrics doesn't matter, just how it sounds coming out. It doesn't matter what he says or if its even just babbling, we perceive it as art, and it is.
Exactly. I've always felt that way about music in general. I don't pay any attention to the lyrics, just the sounds they make and the melodies/harmonies they produce.
Hes a star from a galixy far away. just shows that humans can be much more than we think .. when u get away from mainstream thinking and allow yourself to have the courage to do your own thing. :D
I love how Reggie directs our attention to the screen behind him but whoever recorded this felt no need whatsoever to include that particular part of the experience.
@@smokejc Many things do. It's tragic really. Doesn't make me love Reggie any less. Or you for that matter. If my missunderstanding gave you any small amount of amusement or joy in this world then I feel like I have done my part to make this world a better place in some small way. And if my ignorance somehow offended you or brought you any amount of discomfort...I apologize.
i love appalachian mouth music...is awesome he digs it and does a amazing interpritation..ughh i want more..i wish there was a studio recording of this.
I watched this on mushrooms years ago when I was freaking out peaking and it helped to bring me back to earth. I just stared at his hair and got lost in the music. 😂
Man he still manages to surprise me after all this time. I didn't think this would be as good as it is and when he made that deep voice it was like a totally different person had come out. He absolutely nailed the vibe.
I like the 1983 version with Leo Hosky and Shep Wilson, but I think Watts has really applied those earlier traits to this modern rendition with relative sincerity. Many Appalachian poets and cultural analysts have made comparisons of these elements in the given substructure of theater and arts commentary, so you'll see that as well.
I personally think it's great to hear how Reggie gets an audience's attention and causes them to be active, rather than simply standing up on a stage, doing his thing, and leaving as if the audience isn't there.
Because it's opinion and counters the majority of comments, IE its trash that we aren't buying so stop selling it, fucking spammers, the audience is gold.
This is quite possibly the best interpretation of "Chippawoo" I've ever heard. Mr. Watts gets straight to the point with his sacred music, knowing more about Appalachia than the Appalachians, and his ability to woo the crowd is testament to his sanctimonious divinity. Musically, this is perfection. Lyrically, this is written from the soul. Sensically, the feeling of this song is that of the very last note, which must be heard only after the first notes.
lol okay I commented this because at the time the top comments were complaining that the audience was laughing, which they have every right to at a COMEDY SHOW. Now I'm quoting my copy of Merriam Webster "Comedian: a comical individual; specifically: a professional entertainer who uses any of various physical or verbal means to be amusing." At the core of the issue, Reggie is a comedian, the best in my opinion. I've yet to see a performance of his where he wasn't aiming to make people laugh.
Honestly I love the crowd reactions, Reggie is such a show that its fun to see them experience how amazing he is, and by the end it's just a ton of love. Although I extremely hate it when a regular singer is live and everyone and their mother is singing over the artist, especially when its the person holding the camera and they cant sing worth shit
Well, to begin with, the entire song is improvised. This is the case with every set he does. Secondly his incredible range and ability to act out an endless cast of characters leaves every moment of his performances completely unexpected. How could you not laugh?
Country music groups like the Statler Brothers and old Oak Ridge Boys. The old country quartets. Where you have at least 4 men that all sing different ranges, but one will do the first tenor, 2nd tenor, a baritone, and one guy will be the lowest bass. In R&B, it would be like the Four Tops of Motown.
I find it hard to believe that someone could miss the heavy comedic overtones of everything Reggie does. To be clear, yes, Reggie is a comedian, intentionally. However, I frankly don't see the need to label or categorize him to begin with, what Reggie is is simply, entertainment. He utilizes every tool he has to share enjoyment with others; making people laugh is often the best way to do that.
It's not often you can find an Appalachian artist who can harmonize with such depth and accuracy, I feel bad for the people that laughed and blocked out the music, almost.
How are these people commenting that the crowd sucks!? They are applauding loudly and seem to me like they are genuinely loving every minute of the performance!
He so good at synthesizing his personal style with whatever he's integrating. This is so reggie watts but you still recognize appalachian style even though you might not be familiar with it.
this mofo just never ceases to amaze me. he is truly special. put him in bubble wrap in a bulletproof & bombproof bouncy castle. we need this chap to live as long as those big turtles.
Well, AlexanderRM2010, 'the' is a very common English word and you can use it in many ways. I agree it is awesome! It is a definite article (the only one of its kind in Engish). You can pronounce it with a long e sounding like 'thee' or with a short e which has an 'uh' sound. It can be used with singular and plural nouns
If you use Firefox, there are several "add-ons" which allow you to download FLV files from most pages, including RUclips. I use one called "FLASH and Video downloader", which puts a button on your browser, but there is one that even adds a DL button into your RUclips page. Check your add-ons site, and you'll find something.

I keep showing Reggie Watts videos to my 16 year old nephew and he just doesn't get it. I don't understand what his problem is!? I think my nephew is broken.
His hair is like a Energy expression of his mind bursting out of his head
I wish there was a studio version of this song
Band name and song name? Would love to hear it!
Nonchalant1996 It's all improvised!
hows the progress coming?

I recently found a song that I believe has something to do with this, it’s from 1834 and extremely racist. Do what you want with that information.
Having lived in the Appalachian mountains most of my life this just makes me happy :)
Aldo he improvised the whole thing and has no clue about Appalachian music. xD
+Pavle Zvekić how can you say he has no clue about it? you have to have a knowledge of something if you are going to parody it.
Pavle Zvekić ,I'm from the foothills of the Appalachian mountains in NC, if he doesn't have a clue, he's pretty fucking good, cause that song oozed old school bluegrass

Veronika Ribey he does he has some on spotify.

I've seen a lot of Reggie Watts videos on youtube and I have to say I think this is the most beautiful song I've heard so far.
I immediately went and listened to Appalachian music after this video, and I must say.. Reggie nailed it.
I always xome back to this song.
would rate this song as one of his best...swear to god this could be an actual hit!
We need to start a social media campaign to get a studio version of this song! #HelpUsOutReggie

Reggie Watts has a LOT of great material. This, for whatever reason, was one of my favorite musical pieces.
Reggie is very talented.... I'd love to see him live...
+Jerkoff ...as far as I know he is alive ...
+Gatto Buono ha
He’s lived. Boy has he lived.
Reggie Watts is infinitely talented, amazing!
Wow!
Where has this guy been all my life? Or more like where have I been that I hadn't heard him before?
I have been whistling, humming and add libbing this all day.

"The crowd blah blah blah."
Im cool with laughs, it´s the people literally screaming im against.
I would look forward to the day where "WOO!" stops happening but I'm sure I'm going to die before that ever plausibly happens
Dude's crazy talented. Must be nice to have that vocal range and perfect pitch and rhythm.
Yeah, some of it is... Appalachian music has rich, deep roots with lots of soul...
Wow, really enjoyed this. Not a problemo with the audience's laughter
