Del......The best thing about this is your excitement and enthusiasm towards this project. Your skills are great but your joy is greater. Superb work!
Thank you my friend, im enjoying every moment of it.. glad you like it too.. take care. Del.
OMG. First of all, congrats for listening and willing to change on the go. Second - i was wanting to paint my forks as i have the same problem, and you just made a great example of how to do it. Respect. And last - i am happy that people and brands started recognizing you as a youtuber that they are willing to support. I just hope more and more companies do it fast.
Thank you Marlin, yes its important to keep the viewers on side, and things like this little nose cone, don;t really take shape until the last moment, and it looks to much like a cool Cafe racer fairing that i can save it for later... and yes, how lucky are we to have such awesome support from our viewers, and companies that think enough of us to reach our and help... i love the YT community, thats the best side of it in action... take care buddy.. Del.
@@Moonfleet41 This peace of metal have fate. It was not for the fighter and for this bike. But you will find it a good place, i am sure. Despite that it will not stay on, i have enjoyed the process. Good luck.
@@marinmarkov5058 Thanks buddy, I'll find a use for it and make it worthwhile!
It would make a handy urinal?
By far my favorite Motorcycle "RUclipsr". Thank you (And your wife)for all your work.
Thank you so Much Chad, we really appreciate your kind faith and support, take care and keep in touch.. D&Px
Thanks for these videos. You work with tools most of us have or can purchase. Your shop isn’t intimidating with sponsor supplied equipment we could never buy. Your detailed instructions help a lot. Best channel for Motorcycle Work.
My word, thank you buddy, thats very kind of you... im glad you enjoy the videos and really appreciate your kind feedback.. keep in touch and have a good week.. Del.
Yup, as the comment below, I need to do the same thing to my Harley forks legs so many thanks for the demo.
Love to see the parts flying in from subscribers, just shows you the appreciation in your skills and channel 👍
Thanks so much Fergus, we are truly blessed with such awesome support aye... Glad the forks video helped you out.. good luck with yours, hope it goes well.. take care and all the best.. Del.
There are some amazing people on this planet, super great to see help from others. Amazing 👌🏼🌏❤️
Wow ..you are truly loved ..not many on utube can say that. Thank you Del and Penny for all you do and God Bless . ..Merry Christmas from Canada .
Thank you my friend, we feel truly blessed for sure, the love and support we are shown by those that matter.... and for that we are truly grateful... thank you for your support along the way, have a wonderful Christmas holidays, stay safe.. we will be here uploading as usual over Christmas! D&Px
Coming together nicely, Love the channel and the support your getting.
Thank you Eddie, you're very kind.
Very inspiring project Del! Just got myself a 2010 Harley Sportster XL1200C and let met tell you I've learned a lot from your videos! Can't wait to see where you take this project! Cheers from Quebec, Canada!
Thank you most kindly my friend, and im really glad the videos have been able to help you out.. Keep in touch and always feel free to drop us a line if you need a second opinion of tip to help you out.. hope its not too cold over there yet, have a great Christmas, and take care.. Del.
Great progress there Del. Man what a heavy wheel. You brought back memories of my ol’ sportster & spending a load of time removing the clear coat from the rocker covers/drive train cases by hand with wet & dry, yep a slow process over many beers, then a bit of mothers polish now & again kept her looking great, no I wouldn’t do it again : ) . Looking forward to the next episode mate.
Thanks Darren.. i don't know if id have the patience to do it by hand.. i like hand crafted things.. but hours of numbing rubbing can FRO mate... lol good on you, and i bet it look awesome.. cheers mate.. Del.
Hi D&P.
I thoroughly enjoy your sessions, but this one was extra special somehow.
As someone whose been following for a relatively short time I'm impressed by your attitude to (positive) criticism and have tucked that away in the back of my mind.
The people who have so generously supported this build are confirming the great appreciation you both generate.
All the very best wishes for a great future.
Regards from S Africa
Clive
Hey Clive, how wonderful to hear from you all the way from the homeland... I guess you're coming in to summer there now, today here it rained all day and was 4degrees C... but a great time of year to build bikes!
We are truly blessed with some wonderful support from our viewers and Patrons, that has always been a wonderful privilege, but we are astonished, when people send us cool things we can use... it is a gift and a privilege... you reap what you sow in this life aye? Have a wonderful Christmas yourself, stay safe ma broer, all the best, D&Px
Bittersweet decision Del. I wasn’t a huge fan of the form but I always looked forward watch the process unfold. You are fearless in creating and that is bleeding into my garage. TY Sir!
Hi Jason, Thanks for your kind words mate.. you've got to push the boundaries of your worn abilities i think, otherwise you never grow in skills or experience.. The nose cone's not waited, it will live on a bike.. just maybe not this one..lol!
Really enjoying this series Del, the bike looks better and better every time 👍🏻
Thanks Kristian, that's very kind of you, glad you're enjoying!
Hey Del and Penny, great production and video as always. You two have got things just right, and as always I'm amazed how Penny can get great video in a small space.
Harleys are not my thing but there is still lots to learn so I am watching this build with interest. Keep up the good work!
Thanks John, that's very kind of you, Penny does make the videos very special by capturing all the right angles... and to inspire someone to watch who, like you, doesn't particularly like the bike genre, is even better!
A heart warming episode Del, the generosity of people is wonderful to see. You both put a lot of effort into making these videos, you can see how much these items mean to you. Merry Xmas
Indeed Mark, you're absolutely right, we feel humbled and blessed that people would stand up and send us things we need just because they want to, a privileged indeed, and it's what makes You Tube a wonderful thing, Merry Christmas, D&Px
Love the look of the painted lower forks, Del. Glad you didn’t injure yourself too badly with the flying debris- that was pretty close to your eye! Yes a cafe racer build will certainly find use for that nice headlight shroud you’ve crafted... that will be a fun build. 🏍👍🏍
Thanks Gary, yeah, i think i got away with that lucky today... had all the full protective gear i could muster.. but it just tagged me on the 1 square inch of skin left exposed.couldn't write it aye..lol Looking forward to getting into this, suspension on the way, and ive chosen something thats gonna really make it handle a whole lot better.. take care buddy.. keep in touch. .D&Px
Moonfleet41 glad you’re ok, Mate. Stay well, both of you.
"We are not retreating we are advancing in another direction!"..(Macarthur)..:)
Ha ha.. damn right..!
The generosity of the items given in this episode is wonderful. That alone shows the the Unity of the motorcycle community.
Great video. The info on restoring the front forks was priceless information.
Thank you buddy, im glad the video was useful for you and can help you out too... and yes indeed, what awesome generosity aye.. we are truly blessed.... take care and keep in touch.. Del.
@@Moonfleet41 What paint did you use Del? Would you say they are as good as powder coated legs? Thanks and great series!
@@mcperformancecouk Hi Matt, I guess it would be wrong to say it's as good as powder coat, but it's certainly a great substitute and will cost a fraction of the outlay, it's durable, chip resistant and if you take your time, you can get a great result!
Delboy de Reuck would you use the discs on them if they were on a newer bike with only 8k of wear (light marking)? Or just fought them by hand to give a good enough key? Ps what was the paint you used please? Thanks for the reply!
that's a great choice. Honestly I was in doubt about coupling the front fairing with the style of your FXDWG...I believe that simplier is, better is.
I thank you for fork painting suggestions, since I'd like to do the same on mine.
Please go ahead...I'm willing to see your next steps!
Congrats for your great jobs and your tips "how to do". Go Go Go
Thank you Fabio, good to hear from you Sir..
Thank you for the shocks...really gives a guy hope. Looking forward to each and every episode
Your work is superb Del! Thanks for the channel!
Hey Del, I like EVERYTHING in this video - we live vicariously through your build, and if it were my bike, I'd be properly happy with where it's going 👍👍
Thank you Norbert, you are very kind... appreciate your support my friend.. Del.
(P) Great job both of you. Looking awesome with the paintwork & gotta love the support from those that sent you all the bits, fair play to them! 👍🏻
Thanks buddy, too right aye, what amazing people there are out there... hope you and the family are well, see you soon, D&Px
Del your an amazing craftsman and I like your ideas and finished product... can’t wait to see what you do with this bike 👍 take care my friend..... hi Penny 😁

@@Moonfleet41Del , That is so great to hear from you. I wish more people a such a thoughtful and positive and thankful attitude. I wish you nothing but the best in the coming new year again . Again Happy Christmas, All the the best to you and Px
Love it Del. Glad you parked the nose cone. The direction your going has me excited! Keep it coming!
Thanks Dev.. ill come back to it, im real chuffed with how the shape came out.. but maybe not for this bike.. caff Racer next, so lots of scope aye..
Great decision mate, absolutely the right way to go. I'd say that you should go with a 21" laced wheel, for two reasons. They just look right on a wide glide and you can use the stock fender/mudguard which already has the right profile and re-use the tyre as well. One less worry. Fantastic score on the parts. I had heard of solid inserts for the bar mounts but had no idea where to get them.
Jesus, that front wheel almost weighs as much as a dirt bike!
Absolutely loving this project, and it's direction.
Thanks Peter, you're right, that wheel is ridiculous, I think it's got Scania stamped on it somewhere, but I guess that's the cost of a billet wheel and why the Japanese cast them hollow... not so sure about 21", unless I could get a 3" wide one like the Breakout, that would be hellishly expensive, but at least I could run a proper width tyre and get some footprint going on, but it might look cool and be 'in keeping', but on a wet corner with a few leaves, you suddenly lose your faith in purity lol In reality, I think a 21x3.5 rim is gonna be out of reach, far more likely an 18" which will also serve to lower the front, in line with the back, as well... !
@@Moonfleet41 Aye, you could also make up the difference with a fatter profile tyre! That would be cool.
Very cool. I would not have thought of putting something like that aside for a while, and then making a final decision later. Super nice to have people support you with free parts, especially one that makes the bike safer with less flex in the steering. I can see how people seriously dealing with extended forks for choppers would be the ones to have just what the situation needed. Super fast on the paint job, they usually take a lot more video time. Very glad to see how you deal with the lower front forks, I'll have to file that away!
Hi there, thank you for your kind words my friend, and im glad the video can help you out in a practical sense.. yes indeed too, we are truly blessed with such generous support..... take care, and thanks.. Del.
You are truly a wise man. Good decision on the fairing. The bike is too beautiful to hide away.
Thank you Dean, you're too kind mate.
Awesome job and the forks look mahvelous. Penny and U ride safely stay warm God bless
Thanks Paul, appreciate your kind words... ride safe too, all the very best, D&Px
So glad you have gone the way you have, and how great of those that sent you those bits and pieces. Very generous!. The bike is starting to look good, soon to look Excellent
Well Del, I take my hat off to you mate, when you first showed us this project I thought NOT another Harley but you said stick with it and I have and now I’m hooked, the front end looks cool now and dechroming the bike is a must. I look forward to seeing your workmanship on the bike every week and you ever disappoint. Don’t know how your going to get 5 bikes in your garage when the next project starts in the spring but you,ve probably already got that one solved, keep up the good work and a merry Christmas to you and Penny.
Thank you most kindly Sir, your comments are very encouraging... I haven't thought about the 5 bikes, guess I'll have to ride one of them all the time, that or install some really strong hooks on the wall ! If I build a kaff racer, which it looks like I probably will, then it won't be anything like most people expect, it won't be about wrapped pipes and brown seats, certainly not a fashion accessory, it'll be ugly, fast and loud, designed to scare th crap out of me, so the first point of call will be a very silly fast bike to chop up! Have a great Christmas yourself Russell, great to hear form you always, D&Px
What superb guy's donating the new parts. Makes you appreciate the biker community. Well done to them.
I'm also glad the nose cone has gone to the bench.
Thank you my friend, you're dead right, the bike community is alive and well and as good as it's always been! Take care and keep in touch, all the best, Del
@@Moonfleet41 All the best Del, thanks for your superb work. Cheers.
Hey Del, more magic from the garage maestro! Love your skills and attention to detail. With regard the fork refurb, just done much the same on my 99 FLHR Road king, I found to get a good natural finish after stripping back the pitted clear coat was by using green scotch brite pads and Astonish kitchen paste. Plenty of water when rubbing have a really smooth even finish much like factory, I then lacquered to protect. Bit of elbow grease but inexpensive and simple!
Looking forward to next install of the FoXDaWG build 😀
Thank you kindly Sir, that's a great nugget, is there anything a kitchen scotch pad cannot do lol...! Much appreciate your kind support, ride safe, all the best, D&Px
Looks miles better Dell with the risers black and no nose cone pal 👍😎
Cheers Jeff.. glad you like.
I had my doubts about the nose cone as the bike looks great without in my opinion. Glad you’re keeping your options open.
I was hit head on by a car on the 19th of Nov coming home from work and have had plenty of time back on you tube watching your vids after dipping in and out now and again. My CB13 was a total loss. I have the same again now that wants a little light tidying so when I’m healed enough I’ll be back in the garage and giving it a good fettling. I think my all weather winter commuting days are behind me now, so the bike is now just for fun so get to tinker with it and not have to rush to get it back together ready for work!
Keep up the great work, like the sheet metal stuff but my favourite is stuff like the clutch pack and the service and maintenance stuff you do.
Thank Penny and Del, ride safe...coz the bastards aren’t looking!!!
Oh My Goodness, Thats horrible news mate... are you ok, obviously you're still with us, and on the mend, we do hope you weren't too badly hurt... Sad about the bike too, and glad you got another CB1300 too, ive had two of them myself andf they're an outstanding road bike in every way. Thank you so much for sending your good wishes, and when you yourself and banged about too, thats so kind of you... we hope you're al back to normal and back on the bike once the new season dawns.. as always drop us a line if there is anything we can do, keep in touch mate, and keep safe.. Del & Pennyx
Moonfleet41 Bless you, that’s very kind of you both. I got a good tenderising around ribs and shoulders, and a few broken bones in my left hand, but thankfully (like you say) still here.
It’s not put me off by any means, but I don’t think it’ll be my primary mode of transport any longer 😂
Love the way the community have pulled together and sent you bits, I know a few NCC members as their Notts clubhouse is round the corner from me and I’ve played at their national rally in one of the bands I’m in.
Keep the great vids coming, it’s giving me the sense of urgency to get stuck in once I can👍. Big respect
Glad you're back on track, after all you pulled off it.....!
Hi Gary, enjoying the progress mate.. have a happy new year.. Cheers, Del.
Hi Del, nice job, looking good. I'm wtching your video from Buenos Aires , I bit warmer tha Uk now...lol thanks have a great christmas dinner, Gus
Hi Gus.. Home for Christmas then?, thats awesome, and yeah i bet its warm and sunny where you are.. take care and have a peaceful Holiday.. all the best Del & Pennyx
Fantastic New Look and Great work. Always like your Videos.
Great video Del and Penny. Those flatter bars suit it really well in black and nice job on the fork legs mate, looking forward to the next one. You're thinking of a cafe racer next, that would be cool. Cheers
Yes indeed, i think its way past time for a Kaff Racer build.. not too sure what, but it wont be a fashion accessory, and no brown bandages or man bags on it either.. it'll be in the proper original spirit of what a Kaff racer was 60 years ago... a bastardization of the right parts to make a fast loud and obnoxious bike... cant wait.. so better get busy with this or i wont be ready.. ! Have a good week buddy, and keep in touch.. Del.
You’re doing a dam good job sir! Love your work and thanks for all the great videos... 🤘
Thanks Joe... glad you enjoy mate.. cheers for the cool support. .Del.
Glad you listen, and it`s really nice to see you have so many friends matey
Thank you Thumper, what a privilege to have such respect and support aye..
Congrats on nice Christmas presents!!! Your stearing looks amazing!!!
Thanks Grzegorz!
Props for listening to the fan base mate 👍 especially as it's your own bike 🤣🤣 🤣
We have some incredible support out there Alex, and people care about what we're doing, and there was genuine disappointment in their comments.. so as i was easy either way... happy to park it for now... thanks fir your support buddy, take care. .del.
That front end looks so much better... really relived you didn't go with that nose cone!
Yeah, i'ze just kiddin to keep you on yer toes..lol!! Thanks mate, happy to park it for now, but dont get too comfy, it may be back..muah ha ha
She’s coming on nicely Del, defo looks better with black instead of chrome mate. Hope your both well, looking forward to the next instalment.👍🏻
Hi mate, good to hear from you... hope life is good, have you checked the forum lately, meet coming up after Xmas?!
That sounds like a plan. Just need to check the family stuff for after Xmas and if all good I’ll take a ride down mate. Have a good one 👍🏻
Im surprised you walked away from it. The feedback seemed overwhelmingly positive on your last 2 videos.
I must admit the fairing could have been made to look right, but get the point on a quick turnaround winter project. The black and chrome theme is going to look absolutely amazing. Keep,it up Del, as I'm learning more about Harley's all the time and enjoying it.
Thank you Phil, you're dead right, anything can be made to look good, but I think this would compliment the kaff build more than this bike! Glad you're enjoying mate!
day 1 I wasnt sure of the fairing. After last episode i really dug it. That said, I'm 10000% ready for a proper cafe build. Not much of an HD guy myself, but love the projects you do to them. Keep it up Del! Mary Christmas to you and Penny!
Hi Jamie, great to hear from you again, hope you're well... it seems there's a chorus of approval for a kaff build, seems it's been decided for me then lol... take care buddy, Happy Christmas!
Good call I think. Less is more is the way to go. Another great video there Del. Think ditching that front wheel will work well on very level. Look forward to the next. Keep up the good work.
Cheers Andy, that's very kind... and yeah, I think you're right with the wheel, I reckon that's why it woulnd't wheelie off the throttle in second lol ... or am I just being deluded?!
Great video. I was kind of either way with the fairing too. Painting it the color of the bike or black might have made a better decision factor I think. I really liked how you did the forks on dressing them up. Great idea. Looking forward to the next video Delboy.
Thanks buddy, keeping it simple, and making progress again..
Love to watch these stories! I canced the rear brakepads on my sportster with your video as a guide !
Thank you for that feedback Timo, im glad the brakes video was able to help you out.
Moonfleet41 got my Soortster at 2013 and I'm not a very handy mechanic but the harley is some what easy even for me to work on ! But only if I have somethin to lean on , a very good instruction video!
Hey Del. Fair bit of advice if you’re going to be giving the bike a good once-over. Since you said this bike is about 45,000 miles in and has been sitting for a while you might wanna check, if not just flat out replace, the cam chain tensioners. If memory serves correct, and I may be off, but they should be replaced every 40,000 miles. Check with the local dealership’s service department just to be on the safe side. My Harley teachers from moto school down in Daytona Beach always told us to make sure we checked those things if we were ever doing lower end work on the engine.
Thank you Sir, thats sound advice.. and i seriously lucked in with that too... the last owner invested almost £1000 on the entire refurb of the cam drive train.. he had the main dealer fit new primary and secondary tensioners, along with roller tappets, and a pair of SE203 cams... so its all done and another job i can forget and focus the budget on cool parts and upgrades.. Thanks for your awesome long terms support and have a happy holiday... Del & Pennyx
I would paint the headlight black as well, everything but the chrome ring! Did that to one of my bikes and it matches really good with black forks
Good call buddy, I have the same plan for mine, along with half a dozen other chrome-y things!
Very nice Del! Cheers, Doug
Thanks Doug, good to hear from you.
Hi Del,
Another cracking video I really enjoy your content and what you do!
My preferred top tip for welding gas is to have a look round as you can get 100% co2 in large cylinders from eBay and the like at a good price
I have been welding on food grade co2 for years now, all you need to find is a friendly landlord and a few quid in exchange for borrowing a cylinder for a lot of welding!
It produces consistently good results maybe not as immaculate as a mixed gas but its very happy mig welding all from thin sheet 1.5mm to much heavier plate 1/2" is the thickest I have done so far and it works a treat!
Keep up the good work I look forward to the next installment!
Thanks buddy, appreciate the nudge, am using MIG mix at the moment, and I've paid for the bottle now, so you're kinda tied, the cheapest option would always be a refill... they do 100% O2 so may give that a try if it's as good as you say.. cheers buddy!
Superb gifts and another great video.
Congrats.
Looking good Del can’t wait for the next update
The black bars n risers with the black forks beings the front end nicely together. I like!
Thanks Alan, im thinking black rim and silver spokes too.. just as soon as i can get rid of that Scania front wheel..
... quick winter restoration withOUT a hand made custom fairing. Looks great with the risers black! Really dig the black fork tubes too. Mine has black forks and chrome rear shocks.. next thing I do is getting rid of those hideous factory rear shocks! BTW.. I have a burly fairing I'm not using. If you think thats something you need we can make that happen!
Thanks buddy, thats very kind of you, but im like the front naked more and more..(ooer), and as for chrome shocks.. i hate them as much as you do.. i have ordered some awesome shocks from W&W for the bike, they'll lower it an inch, and make it handle 800 items better.. maybe ill find a farmer with a hay cart and give him the factory shocks as an upgrade..! (but he'd probably throw them at me.lol)
Great vid again - prompted me to look at doing something with the fork legs on my VFR that are in a bit of a state and letting the rest of it down (basically mint for an 18 year old bike). For some reason, I had it in my head to completely strip them, which is total overkill.
Also, kudos for taking viewers opinion on board and appreciating that if you're taking patron contributions, there's an element of to and fro with the content. Not many on RUclips are so adult with viewer opinions that don't match theirs. TBH, it's not my kind of bike, so I'm more interested in the skills at use than the finished article here, but still hooked on the series. Well done!
Hi mate.. yes indeed, it is a natural assumption to strip the legs apart, but you'll only mark and damage them rebuilding unless you give them a month to cure.. there's nothing inside you need to paint, so this way works fine aye.. and thanks for your kind words too, i agree, and reasonably busy and well supported channel should listen respectfully to the opinions of its viewers... like i said in the video, we are nothing without them.. Take care mate, and thanks for your support.. Del.
Cool as you like. Faith in humanity restored :)
What a great community we bikers are :)
16Kg - OMFG! mag to grid!
Damn right on the community, and damn right on the wheel! I keep checking it for a Scania stamp! But hey, at least the bike won't suffer from accidental wheelies off the lights... !
Some nice early Xmas prezzies there guys, I didn't mind the little nose cone, Harley had one on their Low Rider S, which they just discontinued , they're keeping their value as well, never mind it'll come in use for a future build ay Del. The fork legs look good, if mine get all cruddy, I will do the same, but they're ok at the moment. All the best both x👍👍😎
Thanks Geoff, yes indeed, and few Harleys have had nose cones.. the Nighrod Special was the coolest i htink... keep safe mate, and have a great Christmas... D&Px
Have to admit, I'm relieved on 2 counts.
1. I wasn't too keen on the nose fairing but kept quiet as I thought to myself "it's his bike, he can do what he wants", as you said. Looking forward to the cafe racer though!
2. Glad you changed out those bolts. As you mentioned, it was the combination of the welding heat plus, even if the studding was 12.9, the nut may not have been.
Sure thing buddy, I think the devil in the mix as probably most likely to be the machining of the heads in to that slot shape, because that would work harden something that was previously annealed, which can end up making it brittle... either way, they've gone and I have the pukka bolts in place, and am relieved at that!
Loving this build, definitely good for a bit of inspiration for some personal projects!
Cafe racer built would be fun to see how you'de build it. Lots of fabrication
Great job del it's going to look great and fab getting all those parts mate there's some nice people out there just like your selves brilliant mate
Thanks Colin, What a breath taking surprise aye.. to have a company send us the pulley, and now i can dedicate the budget to things i want to upgrade, and not just repairs...
Coming along Very nicely mate
So glad you dropped the nose cone, much better look. A small thing - the end of the bolt through risers and nut could be covered, perhaps machine a cap of sorts. Just a thought. 👍
Thanks buddy, already thought of that as they're pretty unprotected from the weather, so will just get myself a couple of pike nuts to go over them, or maybe acorn nuts, whatever I can find!
I must get some tough black paint, does it only come in black, and what is the name of the paint you use? I need to refurbish my swingarm on my ER6f, never had a hugger on it and it's a mess, the original colour of it and the frame is Gold, well a little less Gold than the spring lol. Probably cheaper to paint than getting it powder coated, I may have to just paint the frame and yokes/triple clamps too. I also need to figure a way tho hold the bike up without the paddock stand so I can get it off the bike to prep and paint.
The paint is by "Simoniz", and its just called "Tough Paint"... come in a small range of basic primary colours, if you search round online you'll find a supplier that will post it out to you in quantity you need.... great product for a swing arm with all the grit and weather blasting it... good luck with it buddy.. let us know how you get on.. Del.
@@Moonfleet41 Cheers for the info Del, it might be a while as I have to do all of my work on the bike outside, but I can get the materials ready soon. I will let you know, there will hopefully be a video of it being done too.
Hey, what brand of paint is that on the forks? I think I've had enough screwing around trying to polish and maintain these, plus that looks great
Hi Jason.. its "Simoniz Tough Paint" buddy.. available online.
@@Moonfleet41 thanks, and what primer? Also I have New Jersey license plate, do you have one already? I believe I see a Pennsylvania one there
@@pongobird Hi again Jason, just spotted this reply.. its been a busy week... yeah we would love a plate if you have one to send over.. it doesn't matter if we have one, each plate represents a person who follows what we do and keeps in touch.. so if you could email Penny if you wouldn't mind on delboysgarage.yahoo.com, and she'll give you all the address details etc.. Thanks so much in advance buddy, take care and happy new year form us both... D&Px
So cool I like it much better without cover on head lamp and no chrome even better nice video mate I would love to see spoke wheels on this project
Great video! I Enjoy these so much love the bike! Keep it up!
That's some nice progress. Glad the risers went black. transitions well into the bar. If you do go two tone spoke for front, possibly do the brake disk carrier black. That may match up the front to back look of the new pulley. Liking this build :-)
Thank you Darren, good thinking my man, I have the rear wheel to do this week, ready for the weekend's video, and as the disc will have to come off for that, I'll be looking at trying to get some black carriers for the discs and also see if they are dismantle-able, they seem to be, but I need to talk with a Brembo agent first to be sure I do them safely... always great to hear from you, D&Px
The part next to the lug which has been left as it came out of the foundry is where the body of the core that made the cast hole in the lug prior to drilling out to size mates with the casting mould. This can, in older die tools, leave a lip of "flash" that needs fettling off. It's not part of the die casting process. My guess is that the sprue (where the metal enters the die) is on one of the lugs at the back of the leg or at the top and there will be evidence of fettling there, too (that's just an educated guess from my time designing die casting tools back in my dim distant past).
I liked the nose cone, seems i was in the minority, love the look your going with..another great vid Del, keep doing what your doing, your vids are fantastic
Thanks Dave, im with you mate, i love the actual nose cone too.. really happy with the shape.. but it'll got a lot better on a road bike for some Kaff racer style ,maybe... ill review it at the end, may still give it a go yet..! thanks for your support buddy, always good to hear from you.. Del.
Excited for the cafe racer build!
... can I finish this one first lol
Looking forward to seeing a 19" on the front, I have a 2003 FXDWG and it's something I have been considering myself, going a little wider on the tyre too.
Yeah, the dream would be a 21 x 3 like on the Breakout, so i can run a 130/60 tyre and get some grip.. that daft front tyre scares the crap out of me, probably out of financial reach though.. and i dont want cast alloy either.. so it'll probably most likely be a 19 x 3 or 18 x 3.. lost of decent tyre choice then... gonna see what the budget will stretch too, just lashed out for the shocks, so a bit skint now.. but they are gonna transform the back suspension..!
I just finished sanding my wide glide forks this past weekend. I'm keeping them polished aluminum though. Took about 5 hours to do both, starting with 220 grit and working up through 2000 grit.
Good going John, you have my respect mate.. that is laborious and mind numbing work.. but worth it when you stand back and its done aye..
Those fork legs look fantastic. I will use your method for painting mine for the ZZR they are crying out for a refurb. 👍
Thanks as always for the videos, I would like to know the brand of the lathe, place of origin and that I must take into account before acquiring one, thank you.
Hello Marcelo, the lathe is a Clarke unit, supplied by Machine Mart, and there is a direct link in the description to it under the video...!
The new risers for the bars look great and the painted fork legs are a good look and improvement on standard
Once again Del, great job. I need to do the same thing to my forks they are starting to look terrible. I need a set of those bushings for my bars. I wish I would have known about them when I installed my 14 inch ape hangers on my 08 Electra glide, my bars move around way to much.
Hey buddy.. good to hear from you, if you contact Dan at the link for Dan Death Custom Cycles.. he'll be able to send you a set for sure..!!! and they will make a world of difference too.. Great to hear from you always Brother, hope its still mild and not too winter for you over there... Happy Holidays... D&Px
@@Moonfleet41 I will look into that, thanks Brother. Happy Holidays to you and your family as well. It is 64 degrees here so it"s not bad at all, but we have some rain coming.
Looking really cool. Those flatter bars suit it really well and am a big fan of black bikes so gets my vote. Must get some tough paint for my bike. You Would clean the front end up a treat if you could get all the wiring through the bars and risers. That’s my next job for my sporty.
Great Vid Del and good dump on nc...for now anywayz. Question: My Softail has an Earth wire connection to right riser bottom bolt. If you have same, how the frakk do you keep the earth washer attached to bolt (between washers) in correct position stopping it from turning as you tighten bolt? I Had a hard time with that and even chewed up one wire to washer that wouldnt stay in place, whats the technique if any? Cheers and Merry Christmas to you and the missus.
Thanks for the rubber stamp mate... just parking the nose cone for now, I'll come back to it another day for another job! I have the self same earth wire on my right hand riser, the trick is two washers mate, trap it between a pair of washers and then hold it with your finger as you nip it up and it won't rotate! There should be enough thread for an extra one, and it's the time honoured trick for any earth tab... hope that helps, keep in touch my friend, Del
If you're going to have the spoked wheels apart, you could go white powercoated hub, spokes and rims with black (not whitewall) tyres.
No white wall tyres, thats for sure.. and i have a few options on wheel, thinking about saving some weight, and also strength... we shall see what i can afford... back shocks arrive this week, so spent out a bit.. but the wheel or wheels are next on the list to buy..
Great job buddy, wasn’t to sure about the fairing too, not for me to say tho, you just go with your gut, regards Stu
Thanks Stu.. rolling with the punches like you should on any project.. and having fun all the way.. have a great Christmas mate, and keep in touch.. D&Px
You should paint the shell of your headlight black, would look great with the black bars I think.
Thanks Daan.. all on the list.. Headlight shell, battery box, fuse box, coil cover, horn, fender struts, back wheel rim. etc etc.. lost going black on this one..!
Very cool you are doing a Cafe Racer. :) I need to fix some big end bearings on a kawa 1100 first, then I will get a cb 400 frame and build one too. Good luck!
Are you gonna put the Kawasaki 1100 engine on the CB400 frame?.. now THAT will be a Cafe racer..!!!
@@Moonfleet41 Oh hell no haha. I would need the biggest shoehorn in existence. The 1100 will be sold and will go towards my cafe racer funds. I was thinking of a 500-750cc with a tiny supercharger just to help it breathe but you know how plans change all the time.
@@fahrvergnuegen Ah ha.. i see.. i once saw a Honda CBR 400 Gull arm with a 900- motor in it.... what a crazy and dangerous bike... wonderful..lol!
Excellent video Del & Pen,especially the painting of the forks which I am intending to do mine the exactly same way, will have to purchase a new angle grinder but that’s no biggy, brilliant simoniz tough paint? Is that Matt or satin? What did you use? Nice one brother
Steven
Hi Steven, it's Satin tough paint, and I used about half a can, believe it or not, it comes out thick and you only need two coats over bare metal... if you're gonna use the scotch mops, then just go easy as I can't stress enough that the good ol' grinder is proper aggressive and will leave quite a mess if you overdo it, wouldn't be hard to trash your forks.. good luck with it mate, let us know how you get on!
Moonfleet41 yes well I do tend to over do things maybe wire brush, sand paper?
Yes a cafe racer build pls I would love to see you take on that genre as u have some unique creative thought processes
Yes people can say that cafe racers have been done to death but they are so personal that every one is unique I know mine is and I know one that you do will be the embodiment of u so get building Del Boy
OK buddy, message received, but please don't expect a fashion accessory cafey bike, it'll be a hardcore kaff racer, right back like the dirty monsters the lads used to ride 60yrs ago!... right when the genre was first started... sadly, the same as a 'bobber', the whole genre has become bent out of shape over years of evolution, I'll be keeping mine closer to the old guard, looks will be secondary... designed to scare pedestrians and me lol
Welding Gas..How much ? can you not purchase less than a tanker full ?
3ft bottle standard amount for hobby use, usually about £76 for a refill..!
Much better without the front end what a difference. A nice laced wheel will transform the front end
Yeah, thinking maybe 80 spoke... or perhaps something more aggressive... !!! thanks for your feedback Aaron.. cheers mate,. Del.
Sure wish i could afford that front rim. Being in the U.S. just can not. But love the rim.
Well, you certainly packed this video - that front wheel? Probably the answer to 'accidental Wheelies' :-)
Ha ha ha, erm, yeah, i don't think the front was in much danger of lofting by itself....!
I agree with filling the sides in..
sorry, you probably mentioned it but i must have missed it. What's the name of that black spray you are using? Looks like a nice workaround from sending off to get powder coated... Always love the material you post - you have saved me a lot of money over the years with your "how to" videos!
Hi Scott... the paint is called "Simoniz Tough Paint"..comes in basic primary colours, and available online.. Hope that helps you buddy.. its a lot cheaper than powder coating for sure.. Good luck with it.. Del.
Hi del, where do you get that red rubber sealant from? Is it just red silicone ? Bike looking good !
Found it! Cheers
Again impressed by the generous yt community, 3 👍's up!!!
It's a shame you ditched the nose cone, it does fit the Harley!
I will come back to is Christopher, i just have so much to do still that it would be a bad move to spend the next 4 weeks making a nose cone when i want it on the road by March.. stick with it, its not gone, i just need time to get under way properly and knock off the bigger jobs.. thanks for your support buddy, always good to hear from you.. Del.
@@Moonfleet41 all is good. 👍😁
