REALLY
#7 DRAGON = THAT LAZY WRITING !
the AMMIT IN MOON KNIGHT IS BS !
There’s something annoying about the wendigo not being on this list, for those who don’t know, the wendigo is a monster, taking the appearance of either a pale, emaciated, human with sharp teeth, or more prominently as 12 ft tall man with a deer skull akin to the Minotaur, this creature has a bunch of tricks up its sleeve to lure its prey into it’s trap, the Natives fear this creature so much that it’s taboo to talk about it in their culture
Literal nightmare fuel if you really look into it..
Just play Until Dawn 😉
I too was wondering when they'll talk about Wendigo
Might have thought it was a cryptid
The ones on this list are... choices.
Not very good ones in general

A few honorable:
Thunderbird
Doppelgangers
Oni
Hodag
Redcap
El Sombreron
Banshee
Bunyip
Wendigo
Cyclops
Ningen
Ittan-Momen
Djinn
Penanggalan
Golem
Djinn aren't mythical creatures they are real and they are created from smokeless fire so that's why they can't be seen by humens.
The most famous djinn is Satan.
They're what most people call evil spirits
Except Banshee's from Fairy Lore (more benign)
Isn't ningen Japanese for "human?" Djinn (aka "genie") would have been cool. Wendigo would have added to the cultures on the list by including Native American.
I can't even describe the dread of not speaking Spanish but being smart enough to know that "el sombreron" is the damn hat man I see
I would’ve also included skinwalkers and the hekatoncheires
The battle of Zeus and Typhon ended with Zeus dropping Mount Etna on him, not sending him to Tartarus.
I was about to say. I thought her saying that Zeus banishing Typhon to Tartarus didn’t sound right.
I can't believe John Wick is on this list
It's more like one of his prime targets made the list
For Dybbuk, if a person fears hell, or they've died instantly and don't know they're dead, sometimes they wind up in the Etheric Realm, the plane that bridges Physical & Astral Reality. Sometimes, spirits that had addictions in life will latch onto people with those same addictions. They're lost spirits and need help crossing over, unless they can come to terms with things they originally refused to let go of. These are the spirits that cause hauntings and other paranormal phenomena. That's my understanding of it.
Three you forgot: Jormungandr, also known as the Midgard Serpent, a son of Loki described as a cross between a python and a Chinese dragon that stretches all the way around the earth holding the tip of it's tail in it's mouth until Ragnarok. Said to kill Thor with it's poisonous breath and they both die together. Also, two from the Bible, Leviathon & Behemath described in unfathomable dementions & anatomy in vague sea serpent & hippo-crocodile amalgamations respectively.
This list should be full of world ending threats, the title is just clickbait...
What about a hydra? They forgot those too
I don't know if you have forgotten anything
But I am very happy to have heard of these things ..I only heard of a few .but I thank you all for the teaching
that example you used from Grimm was an aswang, though...and those eat babies straight from the womb.
there's actually various kinds of Aswang and there is a kind of Aswang that splits itself in half.
Thank you so much for putting Hilda on this list for footage Watchmojo. Could you guys do more Hilda videos the show deserves it.
Bram Stoker's Dracula came out in 1992 not 1985
There have been many carnations of this brilliant book. 1992 is one of them with Vincent Price! A masterpiece. Yes... Bram Stoker's came out in 1992. But. Really need to mention something so trivial? lol.
The Movie, the Book is from 1897
They were playing footage from the 1992 movie version, folks.
@@nathantowns2043 Whatever. We all make mistakes.
The book was published, summer of 1897i believe May. They were using clips from the movie tho
The Skinwalker is missing.
Also, while many tales of werewolves are terrifying there is also the tale of the Wulver in Scotland. It would help lost travelers, leave fish on the windowsill of poor or sick families, and sit outside the home sadly when someone inside was dying.
Maybe they knew that you don't talk about Skinwalkers. Talking about them gives them power...
@@bigmekboy175 good point
Manananggal is #1. But you showed the tiktik from grimm😅
the cockatrice was one you froget.
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! 18:10 That sounds like a sleep paralysis ghost. 🥶
This list should have a reference to the Monstrum RUclips series. They've done a great job of covering quite a few of these in more detail, including the manananggal and nuckelavee
Inkubus Sukkubus? I love that band!
Jokes aside, there’s a gothic pagan band from England called “Inkubus Sukkubus,” and they are AWESOME!!!!
"Animated by resentment..."
I'm not familiar with that studio.
WatchMojo: this is Baba Yaga
Me: that's not Keanu Reeves
He’s the one you send to kill the $&@“ baba yaga
As a Filipino , I was caught off guard by the manananggal. Totally unexpected.
Can you do a video of other mythical creatures please 🤞?
Wendigo scare the crap out of me.
Medusa (from Greek Mythology)
Vanier (from Scandinavian Mythology) (if you use Supernatural's footage)
Leviathan (God's First beast)
Mermaids (Classical Mythology)
Ghosts/Sprits (anywhere)
+1 for reminding people about the :original: dark af version of mermaids.
I think the Kuchisake-onne definitely belongs on this list, the first time I read about it, it scared the hell out of me!
What MOJO, you miss alot of them , need a 10 more or 20 more list
The Lamia is pretty friggn terrifying!
Id have to include the voice in my head, as well.
Manananggal for the win!
Yes! I was hoping it would make the list!
8:35 Hellhounds have also been depicted as invisible to humans in Supernatural.
Definitely need a part 2. Add the Djinn/Ifrit, a Kitsune ( maybe kind of like a succubus), and a golem.
A golem is an object...
Thanks for my family's history. Smooches!
#1 should have been biblically accurate angel
I personally think that the most terrifying mythical creatures are werewolves, the chimera, and the kelpie.
The Kelpie is downright terrifying
I had to look the kelpie up. The only kelpie I knew of is a working dog.
When I hear “Baba Yaga” I think of John Wick being referred to as that in the first movie 😅
🔥background music
You know what's worse than the mananaggal? The penanggalan. The manananggal separates its upper torso to fly around. The penanggalan pops off its head and takes its organs and entrails with it as flies around.
in my country, we called that Kuyang.
I was just impressed as hell either one was mentioned because they aren't commonly known. I was expecting to have to come into the comments to mention them.
Nah man manananggal still scary
Didn’t they make a Thai movie where a guy falls in love with one? Btw the Thai call her “Krasue.”
a flying head? all you need is a baseball bat and it's kaput
Jorogumo was on gravity falls 😮
And Hellboy sword of storms.
@@Negamare1 I didn't see that one but the first hell boy movie kicked ass
I do like that scene of Severus Snape putting himself between the children and the werewolf.
As a Filipino I was really proud and surprised Manananggal is First on the List.
Not to sound skeptical, but I have been visited by the mare. When I was 3 years old, I woke up, its face was near my face and I couldn’t move or scream. It wasn’t until I scratched my brothers feet with my feet, he woke up and I was finally able to move. 2 years later, I told my parents about what I saw. I drawled what I saw and they quickly took my drawing and burned it. We went to church and got a blessing the following Sunday. I didn’t understand what was happening until 5 years ago
I've had something similar happen. When I was younger, I forget how old, I had a dream, where I was standing in the bottom of a canyon, in the canyon there was a figure that resembled my brother, only its eyes were red, and its skin was a blueish black, it said it knew what I was afraid of, and behind it I saw my mother sick in a bed. My fear was my mother dying. A little while later, I remember playing in the living room, and it was suddenly inches from my face, and for a split second it was there, smiling. Present day, I'm now older, and my mother got cancer, which seemingly started around that time. She died in her bed a couple years ago. Now I simply wonder, what did I see? Was it a demon? Was it the devil? Was it just an odd dream and my imagination? I don't know. I still wait for the f%%ker to show himself, so I can introduce him to fear of dying as I beat him senseless.
My wife and I really find the idea of hydra, and dragon type creatures very unnerving lol. We barely enjoy tiny lizards 😂
Werewolf also comes from Greek mythology.
Wow I liked it I don't know if the manticores should be here too
Yes, a lot of other creatures should be, sphinx, gorgons, chimeras...
Isn't number 1 the Aswang from Grimm?
That’s what it was. I’ve seen Grimm a million times and new that was not the right footage. Aswang is completely different creature to the one mojo was talking about.
@justinanderson4315 im pretty sure aswang is an umbrella term that describes a variety of monstrous creatures, including manananggal
Baga Yaga is so Terrifying, even Hellboy doesn’t want anything with her (and he make living killing Monsters like it’s his playtime, The Witch even kissed Hellboy in the mouth and he immediately want a mint because her entire body is rotten and also slimy)
You did miss one creature, mother in laws
WOW I'M THINKING GOING TO PUT MYTHICAL CREATURES ON MY MANGA STORIES IDEAS.
Dracula Untold is really good highly recommeded
So the clip from Grimm you posted for Number 1 isn’t an Manaanangal, it’s an Aswang.
Yo where the spoiler alert
‘I haven’t finished One Piece yet’
I'd say give Charybdis a shout out. Giant whirlpool monsters are pretty terrifying.
Ghosts, some of the gods, there are so many from many cultures that a listing of a quarter of them would be a hours long endeavor.
5:36 Also called Gyuki
Kanji for this monster is 牛鬼, which has two way to read.
17:30 actually what your showing is the "ASWANG" the manananggal have wings with only the upper half of it's body from waist up..
Damn dragons could swoop down at any moment
Yes. And swooping is... bad.
7:46 Dullahan
I love how they got a lot of these wrong as being told all of these as a kid to behave they stillgive me nightmares
Ushi-oni aka Saint Jaygarcia Saturn
Nice restraint not going for the obvious Zombie.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the wendigo and I mean by the actual ugawkin version not the TV version that everyone knows. Seriously no antler horns at all just an emaciated human that wants to eat everything.
Im pretty sure a specific detail left out about the baba yaga is that it doesnt just eat flesh- it eats babies.
Mare is from the Nordic countries where I'm from. In Denmark "nightmare" is called "mareridt" which translates to "mare ride". The word is hers and the terror she brings by riding people.
try Typhon, god of monsters
should be #1 tbh
“The minotaur is a force to be reckoned with” dies from child with no combat experience carrying a pen
Goes to show how Percy Jackson will never be a good source for learning Greek mythology.
killed by demigod not human child with minotaur 's horn not Riptide the sword
@@RaguORaglait's mythology, not history
I was getting disappointed that not one Philippine folklore creature was on the list being that the entries were from different culture mythologies until number 1. There are a lot more mythical creatures in Filipino folklore that scared me growing up and I think the Aswang is the most terrifying of them all.
Need a top 20 most terrifying good guys from all of pop culture. I just need to see Kratos, Spawn and Oglavaeil the executioner on a list
Krasue.
There is Ancient Greek story about werewolf, about king lycoan, zeus transformed him into a wolf
Even the bravest pirate wouldn’t stand a chance against the Kraken. That’s the true stuff of nightmares.
The Penanggalan - which is similar to the Manananggal; only instead of splitting its body in half, it splits at the neck - its disembodies head (as well as its internal organs and entrails) flies about in search of prey (pregnant women and young children).
im from PHILIPPINES and I didn’t expect MANANANGGAL would be in your first place,,😂
Where the hell are Zombies and Witches.
I would consider them more like urban legends
You should have put the Basilisk on the list, specifically the Harry Potter version, an enormous snake that can kill you by just looking at you. The venom from it can destroy a horcrux.
The Ahuizotl. It's said that it eats the eyes, teeth, and nails of his victims and uses their body as bate or uses the crying sounds of a baby near it's lake.
Top 10 Philippine Mythological Creatures
I see mythical I click! 😅
The Wendigo, The Basilisk , The Banshee, The Kelpie, Skinwalkers, The Umi Bozu,
+ Popobawa
I want every single weakness of every Mythical Creature YOU GOT.
Dragons make the worst bosses ...
... They fire everyone.
Forgot the Loch Ness Monster
I first read the Lord of the Rings when I was about 12 or so, and the Nazgul scared the *bleep out of me.
Whatever Tolkien hoped, the Lord of the Rings is not a myth but a story...
I'm sorry, but how tf is Dullahan more terrifying than a Nuckelavee?
Clearly you haven't watched The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
@@Cydra630 I have and it's still not a scary as a Nuckelavee.
@@Cydra630 Clearly you haven't Googled "Nuckelavee". Take you pick of any illustration, I'd take a Headless horseman any day over that monstrosity.
What about the Mongolian Death Worm?
Ushi Oni: exists
Me: Saint Saturn Flashbacks
4:18: it got Freddy Kruger beat
Watch mojo mythical creature
Well theirs the Tukákame aka the Mexican Ghoul. Does that count?
To use Moonknight as a reference to Ammit is just straight up disrespect.
I was born in Latin America, LA Llorona's story is:
A woman who lost her child and refused for anyone to feel that joy if she couldn't.
She kidnaps children who won't listen to their parents. She entices them and leads them to a watery grave.
She is always dedicated by a lady in a wedding gown sobbing by herself, she was cheated on and lost her child because now it was not possible.
If she can't be happy no one will, so she robs parents other joy by drowning the kids. Also if someone cheats she takes their kids away out of her own envy.
Moral of the story: Don't cheat, listen to your parents and don't take your blessings for granted.
8:44 I prefer the hellhounds as “seen” in Supernatural.
TOP 10 Ugliest Robots
Rule one, never give into your fear.
#1 is basically skin walker
Leave it to Watch Mojo to add to people’s nightmare fuel.
Forgot about the wendigo and skin walkers.
Sirins are my suggestion
Kind of surprised the Kraken is on the list and not Leviathan or Cthullu (the former being the inspiration for the later).
Wendigo and an angry Leshii/Leshy are the LAST thing you want to find in a forest. At least with a werewolf there is silver.
What about the Jotunn? That thing from the movie The Ritual
Thats literary a ice-giant...
Not that version, the one im talking about is like giant elk with human hands and eyes that impales people on trees
Depends who on your side? If not...
14:02
odd fact about werewolf myths
originally, one of their oldest sources seems to be a Greek mythology version of the Wendigo myth
were in, if the gods caught you commiting canibalism, they'd turn you full wolf, and you'd only ever turn back if you didn't attack humans for 7 years as a wolf
seemingly, that same myth, had versions that said that this curse was so intense, that if future generations of connibals who passed their divine trial, their kids, whether they ate people or not, eventually they'd still turn to wolves and be put to fullfil the same test
creating a myth of a whole wolf shifting race of people in ancient Greece
Then, later on in the mediaval era
when christianity was the norm, the idea of humans becoming animals was deemed "magic" and therefore "impossible, because not enough GOD"
so
the myth became: "there's a lineage of people, who through their dreams and worship of GOD, can create physical wolf bodies they control in their sleep, these wolves being powerful enough to fight demons"
which even inspired a ficticious order of people calling themselves something along the lines of "the wolves of god" or something
ONLY after the Gothic era of artistic expression did the myth of the werewolf
as a monster that transforms in to a beastly, half man, half wolf fiend from the most damned pit
who happens to be nearly unkillable without the helped of silvered weapons
come to pass
some poeple theory that this modern form might be a result of the mixing of the original werewolf tales with those of vampires
04:10
Hold on, that sounds like that weird "lucid" nightmare that I had. I dreamed that I crashed the car and, even I knew that I was dreaming, I was unable to control it. Then some...person? approached me and started to choke me. My body was able to feel the bed and the sheets but I wasn't able to open my eyes at all and I could feel that thing's hand at my neck.
