There would be no reason for him to go all out and sacrifice the Yiga like he did in Age of Calamity. Astor is cool on paper. A person who is claimed to be a seer just because he has an evil egg that looks into the future and is possessed by his personal god. He wants this to happen because he believes if he aids in the destruction of Hyrule, he'll be remembered. But the fact he didn't do much in game anyways and was rather a guy for marketing in trailers and a way to Alter the timelines of Breath of The Wild and Age of Calamity just makes him what he had ended up. Pointless and forgotten. He comes from a village that had its name left out, he has no actual backstory, he is literally just a Ganon worshiper with an egg, a weird relic, and the ability to control malice to an extent. I like this mystery but at the same time it makes the character dull and foolish. If they make him playable in the future with his own story mode just like Cia and her squad in the OG Hyrule Warriors, they can build on everything.
Here's the thing 1. Age of Calamity is not pointless it's the start of another timeline. 2. Astor isn't completely loyal to Calamity Ganon he really just wants to rule the world through Calamity Ganon.
@@chadpeterson5698 1. It's the start of another timeline just so they can make more games from profit. It was going to happen eventually where Nintendo didn't want to shove more games between the timeline because BOTW is "the last game in the timeline." 2. Astor doesn't want to rule. He wants to destroy it. Although he treats Ganon as a form of weapon, he still acts as if he's a servant to it. Fulfilling the Calamity's duty for it so he gets a reward of sorts.
@@themidfacekiller617 Nintendo could make more games in the other timeline split but for now they want to focus on remakes and creating more chronologically recent games.
@@themidfacekiller617 also Sooga says this line to further prove that Astor is trying to use Calamity Ganon as a tool " you are a fool seer. Calamity Ganon is not for mortals to control." Sure he does also do things to serve Calamity Ganon however like you said it's for the sake of himself so ergo Astor is far from loyal he's doing what will benefit him.
@@chadpeterson5698 1. Although that's understandable, this timeline split has a lot of more backlash than the original caused by the Hero of Time. The fact Nintendo has decided to make a game where it brings us the "happy ending" negates its purpose as a prequel and is rather a full on alternate storyline. If it really wanted to be targeted as "the story from 100 years ago" it wouldn't have split the timeline. This is just some cash grab. Although it does mean we can get new stories in the future, it doesn't fix the fact what a lot of us expected got backhanded and eradicated. 2. What Sooga says is undoubtedly true. Sooga does say that Calamity Ganon is not a tool for mortal men. Yet it's a beast of nothing but hatred. It has no personality or emotion other than hatred. Astor obviously isn't that smart. Yes, he wants to kill the princess and hero so that the Calamity wins and destroys Hyrule and yes he can resurrect blights by taking life force from people. But his power doesn't match his brains. It's not likely he's the seer who went to the royal family to tell them to gather the Divine Beasts just so Ganon could have four powerful weapons cuz he was dumb. He was dumb to think he was a "commander" of the Harbinger. He was dumb to think that his fate was to use Calamity Ganon as both his master and servant in order to achieve destruction. He had no character other than "insane prophet" who "works for" Ganon. He's a waste of time. More so than the sequences where the Successors arrive from the true timeline.
My initial thoughts on Astor prior to playing the game: He's kinda cool looking. Probably a reincarnation of either Vaati or Ghirahim, is probably going to manipulate the Yiga Clan and possibly the entire Kingdom of Hyrule for his own personal gain if he's the fortune teller that everybody keeps theorizing about. And he's probably not going to be loyal to Ganon either and try to get his powers like Yuga did in ALBW. My thoughts on Astor afterwards: He's insane and he seems to be power hungry based on some of his dialogue, but I don't know if he's crazier than Zant or if Zant is still considered to be the craziest character in the franchise. Also, why isn't he playable?! I'm seriously hoping that they give him a few story maps that makes him playable like they did for Cia in the original Hyrule Warriors.
@@zhenmuron9857 True. I don't think anyone else will be able to top Zant's level of insanity now that I think about it. Almost forgot how his fight went in Twilight Princess and how he played in Hyrule Warriors.
@@zhenmuron9857 Now that you mention it, yeah Astor isn't as crazy or evil as Zant. Then again there's not much info regarding Astor's background just comes from his gallery info stating that he's just a seer from a certain village and that he just wants to rule the world through Calamity Ganon. I really hope that recent datamine with the characters voices makes him playable and they add a few story maps for him and the Yiga too, because there's some parts that feels like they could've went and shown what him and the Yiga were doing while the heroes were off doing the other missions.
Same here. I felt so disappointed to learn that he wasn't part of the playable cast. I'd be confused if they didn't make them playable at a later point in time despite already having some of the other characters call out to them in the game's files (although Sooga and Astor doesn't have any clips of them calling out to the other characters). So they were at least either considered to be playable at one point, or they just decided that they'd make them DLC somewhere down the line.
@@zhenmuron9857 I'm thinking that maybe they didn't have their voice actors record those lines yet. Although that would probably be even more weirder if that was the case.
Also! Here is a big thing that can change the entire timeline! Remember Spirit Tracks with MALLADUS? Doesn't it sound like Malice..? Just with the letters Mallus and not to mention how both Astor and Cole get betrayed by the main villain..
I understand where all the critics on his function in the game are coming from... but eh he has an amazing vibe and voice and idk I just ended up being a huge nerd for prophecy man hahahaha. Idc about lazy writing or overused tropes, he be the man I hyperfixate on now try to stop me if you can XDDD
I love the idea that every time Gannon is reincarnated he has a new follower or right hand man who is devoted to him. This side villain is ultimately destroyed or betrayed by Ganon for one reason or another. With characters like Ghrihim, Zant, Vaati, Cia, and maybe even Skull Kid based on your interpretation of the events of Majora’s Mask. I’m convinced Astor is the Fortune Teller who told Rhoam about the calamity and that the guardians and Divine beasts were key to deafening calamity Ganon knowing full well Ganon could easily take control.
Funny how all these other villains legit think they have a shot of taking over Hyrule when they're always just puppets for Ganon. Zant, Astor, Giriham. Nobody is gonna rule Hyrule other than Ganon. It's his destiny.
Tf u mean Girahim? Girahim was Demises Sword and literally resurrected him because he wanted Demise to rule the land again. Also Zant was more like an ally, Ganondorf didn't Plan on taking over the Shadow World, he was fine with Hyrule, Zant only wanted to throw Hyrule into Darkness. I see ur not a true Zelda Fan
I haven’t beat the game yet but I really hope he is involved in botw2. He seems like he could be an amazing villain, and given what sooga says, it would be cool for botw2’s villain to make Ganon his puppet, rather than the other way around like we’d all expect.
Or better yet Astor pretends to be loyal yet he plans to betray Ganondorf to take his power for himself however he's killed before he can set his plan in motion either because Ganondorf finds out through plot armor or because Link and Zelda kill him before he has the chance.
I don't get all the hate Astor gets! Sure he's not the deepest character, but none of the BotW characters are known for that. I personally really enjoyed every second of his screentime! I really do hope he makes an appearance in BotW 2. I find it a bit odd they introduced him to us without giving any background info whatsoever, especially because Aonuma and several other people who worked on BotW participated in making this game and writing the story... Perhaps he is still alive in the original BotW timeline! He definitely has the potential to be one of the best Zelda villains. I really missed a character like that in BotW.

don’t get me wrong- i loved astor as a villain. character design, music, dialogue, all super cool. that being said, i wish he played more of a major part in age of calamity. he didn’t really seem like a villain, but more of an obstacle. i feel like if he played a bigger role in bringing back the calamity, he would be way cooler. i understand why he was more of an obstacle than a villain- because calamity ganon was the real threat- but it feels sort of like a waste to make a really badass villain just for him to only appear a couple of times in the game. he has a lot of potential as a really cool villain and i hope we get to see more of him

A few days ago I had a dream that he was inside my house and I was trying to survive until morning. I eventually became lucid but just left instead of killing him.
This made me laugh a little...

Max Brass: Even games with no plots have better villains.
Bowser: Face it, nobody cares about you. Even Chairman Rose made for a better villain.
*Hades closes the earth*
Hades: Well that takes care of that. But we still have a few more disposable villains within these walls.
Ganondorf: We can't touch Nintendo's PR team.
Hades: Actually I was talking about Donkey Kong 2.0, it would appear he's fallen out of line.
Kohga: In my defense, that magician crossed the line when he stole my bananas.
Deffinetly would like to see him return in BotW 2 or even in dlc for AoC, feel like the could have done more with him.
I could be wrong but I think part of this theme, around the beginning specifically, is like a more sinister version of Zelda’s Lullaby(?)
I just haven’t seen anyone else bring that up yet so that’s just what I think I’m hearing
Yeah, i kinda hear it at 0:11
@@alanacastillo90 I think it's a combination of multiple themes because I've heard some people say they hear Ghirahim's theme in some spots, that's just the one I think I'm picking up on the most
i like how part of kohga/the yiga’s theme can be heard, symbolizing how astor used them to his own benefit and assimilated them into his own motives
I hope they make him bigger in future games bc hes clearly a character that doesnt die but disappears
He could be in botw2, because SPOILER
He likely survived the Great Calamity in botw meaning he wouldn’t be dead
Well actually in the games files people such as Sooga, Purah, Zelda, and Robbie have lines with them saying "Astor!" As in when you switch characters

astor fucking wishes he was as cool as ghirahim
... I dont remember having such a sick boss theme
I have had this theme in my head for so long
Astor is cool on paper.
Here's the thing
It was going to happen eventually where Nintendo didn't want to shove more games between the timeline because BOTW is "the last game in the timeline."
@@themidfacekiller617 also Sooga says this line to further prove that Astor is trying to use Calamity Ganon as a tool
" you are a fool seer.
Astor: proceeds to make stuff for destroying the world
Also Astor: TeEhEe
We should really have Astor as a playable character maybe if calamity ganon joins the team well so can his right hand man
I love this man’s title. “Astor the prophet of doom”
Music plays 0:00
Such a good theme!!
I would've loved for Astor to appear in Tears of the Kingdom or for his clothing to be obtainable as armor somehow. Maybe in DLC.
Maybe something that replenishes hearts from being lost from the gloom.
At least a reference to his existence or Sooga’s, or Terrako’s, but Nintendo was lazy.
Anyone else notice how if you play this theme in the gallery it just straight *never* ends
Love his them song.
I loved Astor so much he was a cool new villian but I still think he is in fact a reincarnation of Ghirahim from Skyward Sword
Maybe
We might see him again in BOTW 2, since he is not dead in the original timeline ?
I love the idea that every time Gannon is reincarnated he has a new follower or right hand man who is devoted to him. This side villain is ultimately destroyed or betrayed by Ganon for one reason or another. With characters like Ghrihim, Zant, Vaati, Cia, and maybe even Skull Kid based on your interpretation of the events of Majora’s Mask. Astor is a very interesting take on LOZ villains and I hope he returns.

Sooga and Aster as playable characters
more costumes, Feirce Deity Link, recolors for the Champions, etc

Aaaaaannnnnddddd we can't play as him... Fuck.
I’m convinced Astor is the Fortune Teller who told Rhoam about the calamity and that the guardians and Divine beasts were key to deafening calamity Ganon knowing full well Ganon could easily take control.
What is it with Hyrule Warriors villains and having an unhealthy obsession with a wielder of the Triforce?
Love the rhythm

Hey look, it's Yugiranimti!

He was planned according to some callouts in the audio files. I'm not sure why he got scrapped.
@@cr0w1987when Zant was killed by Midna what did ganon do? Abandon him
I haven’t beat the game yet but I really hope he is involved in botw2.
Ganondorf would pimp slap him though
@@ryanc3609 He’s old and wrinkly, so at least when he first wakes up Astor could probably get control of him for at least the first half of the game.

I agree fully 💯 Astor gave me Ghirahim vibes all throughout Age of Calamity
*Spoilers*
Astor Legit Scares me more than any other Zelda Villain, He knows that he's destined to win, but he refuses to just sit on his laurels, setting out hoards of monsters, teaming up with the Yiga clan, Personally trying to murder Link and Zelda before they escape the Kokiri forest and before they rescue Purah after the descendants arrive, along with Actually stealling souls from the Yiga. Hell, how much you want to bet that it was Astor that wanted to find the Guardians and Divine beasts the most, because he knew Ganon could take control. He even manages to use ganon for a bit, only falling when he commands the dark beast, due to literally EVERYTHING in his plans falling apart.
Also I'm pretty sure he either Nearly killed or actually killed Sooga and Kohga just has a replacement.
