Quality worldbuilding, there's a great deal within this pale forest, it seems, and likely even more still hidden away. It's a pleasant thing to hear tell of an enchanted place and its people in such a format, especially when it's all too familiar to have such descriptions be the tale of 'How things were in better days before the legions of the Demon King burned it all to ash.' These woods are ultimately tempting, for all the peril and all the possibility of being tricked into the creek by the river spirits. A fine venue for a great many stories, I dare say.
