If you look back at the characters' theories of the island, you'll realize the ending was just that. A combination of all the characters' theories. Liz was the queen of bugsnax, then theres the after credits with the "grumpinati", etc

Really the problem with Spiderman on PS5 is that it's released as a $50 game but feels like a $20 dlc add on.

I really like the direction of bugsnax. We don't need hyper realistic games, that would brick any other console if they even got in a 2m radius. I want to have fun, and bugsnax to me just looks like fun. It's why I love Nintendo, they don't have the most powerful console because they don't need to, they focus on fun and they produce fun games.
This isn't to say that realistic games can't be fun, but I think graphics were just something easier to improve on than good game design, and now we've reached the point where it's difficult to improve on while game design has remained relatively stagnant. I won't pretend bugsnax is ground breaking stuff we've never seen before, but it's a type of game that if we keep producing, will lead to better games.
It's GOTY unironically, such a fun game.

As someone who studied animation in college, I’ve never been a fan of people who automatically dismiss colorful and stylized graphics as “childish” or “for babies.”
I mean yeah, there are definitely movies and games that are insufferable as an adult-I’m not sure how I can explain to my Disney-loving Dad that I find the vast majority of Disney movies, animated or live action, extremely irritating as an adult and don’t want to watch them anymore-but personally I’ve enjoyed a lot of “kiddie” games like Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, and especially Mario as an adult.
Personally, I’d prefer to live in a world where people are constantly pushing for more Pixar-like graphics on newer consoles and PCs as opposed to slightly more realistic graphics that will look absolutely hideous a mere 2 years from now.
Yeah, animation and color isn't what makes something childish. It's about how how complex or simple the characters and theme is.
In realisms defence most AAA games we have now like RDR2 for example will age perfectly fine.
In terms of realism we haven't exactly hit the cap so to speak but we're at a point where games can only go so much further without diminishing returns.
Ps3 realism was getting there but still looked a bit garbo but with RDR2, that'll still look amazing for years to come.

But like you said, at some point realistic graphics are no longer going to be a unique selling point for a game and any company that works their artists to near-death expecting people to still be too distracted by imperceptibly “better” visuals to notice how bad the actual game is (e.g. 2020 Avengers) clearly doesn’t have their priorities straight. Unfortunately, that describes 99.9999% of the AAA gaming industry to a tee.
Game of the year.... Cyberpunk had to postpone because it couldn't compete with this masterpiece.
tbh it's a great marketing tactic. If there are a bunch of really popular games out, you're better off waiting until the competition starves itself and then releasing your own in the moment. It's like selling water during a drought.
You don't want your game to end up like fall guys. Sure, it'll be popular for a bit, and then a new game gets updated, discovered, or released and every immediately moves on.

@@glctcthnkr8059 tbh I agree missions usually boil down to fetch quests or head to far as fuck marker. But the sandbox is so unique with insane amounts of ways to murder and interact with civilians. And the side quest are usually better that the main quests.

Finally played this game last year, went in blind to the game. I needed something to help me and my grief, and that something was apparently bugsnax. My cat Grumpy unexpectedly had passed away, and since I went into the game blind, I was shocked to find out they were called "grumpuses". I love everything about this game with my entire being. It helped me in a dark time and is now my favorite game of all time.

Both Octodad and this game are two of my favourite games of all time. Both have a charm that I've not seen any other developer come even close to matching.

bugsnax is legendary tbh. the only hit to the review was that its not something everyones gonna enjoy. so basically its perfect asf, if its ur thing. there r always those top-tier games tho that dont cater to mass markets or anything, n wont necessarily be appreciated by everyone. monster hunter took a while to break thru, smt might still be coming up, honestly dark souls didnt immediately appeal to tons of ppl, etc.
n this isnt one of those games where, if u dont get it, ur gonna get into a whole genre by the end. its like athf.
