I think most of us are guilty for not practicing enough with our safety equipment and your very right the time to figure it out isn’t when your buddy is under the snow. It’s funny that when you said that Canadians (me being one) have been doing this for years and Americans need to catch up reminded me of a trip to Montana with a group of Americans way back in the 90’s. We were getting geared up to go out for the day when our American riding group saw us putting on helmets and laughed and then asked us where the race was that we were going too! Lol keep up the great videos we all appreciate your talent and advice to make us better riders and to also survive the ride!!!

Great video! Really like the riding/technical videos, but we can't forget about the everyday choices that will make sure that we get to ride again the next day. No such thing as too much education. Never enough promotion of having the right gear, training, AND practice. Well done.

Appreciate you guys taking the time to make these videos, I find them informative and motivating. Been procrastinating about doing ast1, but you guys make a great point about setting yourself up for success. At the end of the day, just want to come home alive to my family.

We have had our share of incidents up here in Canada this year also and it really makes you think before you go out and ride. I personally have been constantly adding tools to my pack to help in bad situations, a lot of them because of your videos and others like them. Keep up the great work!

Excellent question !! Lithium batteries are designed to give off a constant steady power through out their life until there's none left. At that point, they drop off to nothing. Alkaline batteries gradually drop off as they get older/used up. A weak signal from a beacon will old alkaline batteries that are still giving off even a small amount of energy can be detected ! (Dan reminded me of this, in class last year).
lets take our cell phones for example, notice how when they get freezing cold they shut off or at the very least it kills the battery super fast? its a trait of the lithium batts, alkaline batts function better in the cold. lets face it, when do we actually use a beacon ?

Hey bud thanks for watching!! After deploying my air bag I would attempt to get to the flanks or sides of the slide. Staying out of the mass is key so trying to outrun a slide can be your worst move. Get to the sides and make a plan from there. Thanks again
Are you referring to Alkaline vrs lithium? We want to use alkaline batteries in our transceivers because they have more of a gradual fall off unlike lithium batteries which are easily affected by cold and can decrease in power very rapidly. Thanks for watching and ride safe!

Alk batteries are electrolyte filled and will be effected by temps below 0, more effected when when the charge is lower as it effects the chemisty and freezes easy. where disposable lithium batteries are rated for -40. a quick google and you will find the same results from multiple sources.
i need a budget sled shop lol i just got this sled and rmk 700 indy i might not be sleding that bites well maybe i find some donations of gear ,i rather be safe ,15 yrs since ive been im need to sled , its like a drug and im not quitting lol
