Finally a worthwhile mod for my ROG Ally as the Steam Deck got many mods but my Ally has been my go to, so cool having a mini powerful PC in your hands
i get using a thermal pad to account for some manufacturing inconsistencies but this is overkill they could have used more metal to be a better heat sink
I’m interested in this but I did the 2280 ssd mod you did a video on a few weeks ago . I now have a 4tb 990 pro in there with a small heat sync. I’m worried it won’t fit.
i have also done the 2280 mod and I have been working with handhelddiy on a few projects. They are sending me one soon and I will be finding a way to make the 2280 mod work and see what other mods can be done to take this backplate a step above the rest. Also performance wise i can hit 16k on cinebench r23 with ease and with my current mods my apu temps never go much over 60c when gaming at full 30w and my nvme temps stay in the 30s. Keep in mind my system is pretty modded but its all achievable mods
Nice. Can’t wait to do some testing and experiments on mine. I have several ideas for improvement. The only thing I wish we could have seen is support for using the 2280 mod with it
Me too! I was just about to buy the clear ally modcase mostly for the kickstand then I searched to see if there was another on the market I ended up getting the jsaux one and a phone kickstand on Amazon I just hope it’s sturdy enough. I did consider the ally mate but it would cover the led on the back.
@@theawsomeonenumber3 nice! I just got a shipping confirmation from jsaux so it's on its way now. Probably another week or so. I'm gonna pair this up with my Skull & Co frosted grip case which has a built-in stand. I'll see how it goes. Hopefully it will be nice. I didn't actually know about this mod case til this video. I honestly would've passed on it tho. I just don't like the black back plate look. It's nice that the thermals are lowered tho but the temps on my Ally are fine to begin with.
@@volcalstone thanks for putting me on the Skull & Co frosted grip case will definitely be picking one up. Dude I’m counting down the days till I get to install the jsaux backplate I’m stoked!
@@theawsomeonenumber3 all good on that S&C case man. I meant to say earlier that it has a natural built-in stand from the bottom of the case which is actually pretty solid as the whole base is planted. As for the Jsaux backplate. I just checked my tracking and it just got to the US so maybe a few more days for me. There is already a video on YT installing it. It looks pretty simple and I'm glad by pre-ordering it will come with those free accessories. It's gonna look so clean. Hopefully you got their travel case tho as it's super nice. Oh make sure you get their thumbstick grips as well if you're into those things. I swear I don't work for them ok 😄.
@@volcalstone the S&C case looks sick but I actually already purchased the Jsaux case literally right after buying the clear back plate. Which I actually like since it has enough storage for all my stuff and doubles as a stand on the go (: oh and thanks for mentioning that it comes with accessories if you preordered I didn’t even realize. I personally always use the LTT stick locks which don’t fit if you have stick grips on but it’s ok cuz I think the ally’s sticks are just fine.
I'd like to see the same but instead of the thick thermal pad some type of block of metal that is finned like a heatsink, and the case itself could have a cutout for a small fan.
hey man, there's a Chinese guy who's making a egpu that has Oculink and TB4 it's called OneXGpu or something like that. The same guy is also making an Oculink adapter for the ROG ally as well
I don't know but after the recent updates, I can't tell any difference between performance and turbo mode except for heat levels and wattage. Also the max temp is 95C for me, SD card is still alive and kicking for 5 months.
Someone in the comments say he didnt test 30 Watt mode. I also arriving 95° and with the 2280 Mod and backplate mod the SSD runs over 60° so i aborted. I will test the 25 Watt mode now. with 25 Watt i was stable at 82° but the SSD was still climbing to 60°. So the 2280 MOD ist not so good... i have to buy the "mini" one
The case look great on this video, i am exited to finally put hands on it ,but I am not sure if I am the only one who order it over a months and they still not shipped
Everybody be aware that they sent this guy a better looking version of what they actually have on their website. He has a shiny aluminum kick stand and name plate and heat sink. That's not what they have pictured.

Would be killer to see how this stands up to being used as a regular "laptop" for a week or so and how possible it is to eliminate a bulky laptop all together. Something worth researching Falcon?
I would use a portable bluetooth keyboard and mouse instead of the dock but it works for me as a laptop even without mouse and kb and just using the built in controls.
