The "strange pose" at 1:33 is called rub urination. Deer have tarsal glands on the insides of their legs; the little tufts of fur at the knee joint. During the rut the buck rubs his tarsal glands together and urinates on them to deposit his scent on the ground. Depositing scent from the preorbital glands by his eyes is the reason for the buck rubbing his face on the overhanging branch as shown at :48. I love your videos. Thanks for posting them.
Thanks for the info, Bill. I'm fascinated by their glands. One deer who has always had a strong curiosity about me, opens her preorbital glands when I scratch her head. I'm not sure if there is any other "message" being transmitted. See: ruclips.net/video/zhUArbDVTp0/видео.html
My guess (and it's only a guess) is that scratching her head with your hands stimulates the same nerves as rubbing her head on a tree branch. It's very likely an involuntary response. There's also a scent gland between the hooves called the interdigital gland. Have you ever seen an alarmed deer stamp their foot? They are stamping a scent into the ground to warn other deer of possible danger. The scent lasts for hours. Deer live in a world of scents that are all but unknown to humans. They know who went where - with whom - based on scents from the various glands. Your yard has probably been "tagged" by deer as safe because of the lack of alarm scent.
Hey Bill, I thought of you when I took this video that has Susie stamping her hoof because of the danger nearby. ruclips.net/video/piN75x31rhA/видео.html
Walter is a very busy boy. It gets exhausting just watching them chase the does. The rut is such a crazy time, but can be quite comical. I love them all. Thanks for posting!
This website gives me so much joy.How amazing your relationship is. How did it start and they grew to trust you. They truly see your family as a member of their family just as you see them.
Wonderful videos... Oh,my dear deer! Soooooo lovely... Cute fawns,so fragile! Majestic bucks, so proud and smart with their antlers.. How lucky you are to share your yard with these natural beauties. Take care of yourself and your four-legged family!!!
What really fun and funny is when the bucks just can't get anywhere with the does they will and i have seen this done before the bucks will try to mate each other, the 1st time I saw it was when I was working security and the 2nd time was in a hunting party my friend was laughing so hard about it he fell out of his blind 😂 and on the way home wouldn't shut up about it 😂
Wowowowow it's awesome beautiful around of you 😘😍that is full of meaning of life 😍bcz it's free of human helping to others. Most of people don't know what is the real peace or happiness but we will know happiness is only love n compassion if we investigate what is the peace
So are these considered mule deer or blacktail deer? They almost look like a mixture/cross between the two, and where you guys are located is right where the ranges overlap. Any idea?
They are Mule deer, which are a subspecies of Blacktail. I keep asking them what they are, but they just look at me like I'm an idiot. They could be right.
I think people arent choosing to "make earth hell" we just have yet to find solutions that work (on a wide variety of issues) without causing new problems, and agree on those.
For the most part, we know all of these deer, so our situation is not like encountering a deer in the wild. We are more careful with the bucks when they are in rut, but mostly because they are so focused on mating that they may forget where their antlers are if they suddenly turn their heads, for example. Mostly, during the rut they are completely disinterested in us, except for those few bucks who really like us. When they get tired of chasing the females, or challenging other bucks, they are friendly with us like the rest of the year. Still, we are careful around them. In a segment on an advice page online a person wrote about bucks, "They tend to ignore you if you're on their “safe” list, and move away if you're someone who hassles them." I think that's true. They would only attack you if you threatened them. Mostly, even with us, when they are following the does, our "smell" has no interest for them.
Love the deer , just do not play or touch there antlers it could cause you problems . Deer love salty and sweet Things peanut butter they love apple juice , jam , and goat feed , Apples ,

I love the persistence and the girls running away. I really giggled! Thank you for sharing your special relationship.

Fascinating! They seem so comfortable around you. None of my deer are like that. Beautiful animals. You are so lucky!
I know right, deer are not used to me either and I wish they were not scared of me so I can watch deer as long as I want.

'Sometimes I get a widdle bit angry and ... fight trees!! AAArrrrggghhh!'
Excerpt from the 'Life of a Deer'
beautiful...relaxing...thank you
about that rut urination, I wonder also about the arch in the back, if it feels good, relieving, something like the impulse to yawn.
Both bucks and does usually arch their back when they urinate and defecate. This probably aligns the 'plumbing' and helps speed the process.
pretty sure these deer know the house that has the best weed......wait! didn't I sell you guys a dime bag back in 72...!? pretty sure.
Thank you!
Is this in oregon

Just curious....do you ever worry about deer ticks and catching Lyme Disease?
More likely to get a tick just walking through the woods than being around deer like that.
Stop it just lite us enjoy the video
How many deer bucks were in the yard?
0:28 "Oh! Right now... we weren't..."

the paradise on earth but we choose to make the earth hell

Location please.
Aren't you concerned about being near bucks during the rut? They can be aggressive toward humans, and not just other bucks, at that time of year.

@@PelorianPages Interesting. It seems that you have an unusually close connection with those bucks. Thank you for the reply. :-)
