The designers did their own. Research and find that that shape offers Good protection and hearing. Also, Most armies are dropping those kinds of helmets in favor of ACH helmets, High Cut helmets or their own designs

These folk passed on to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren a work ethic and never say quit attitude. A strong reason Putin won't entertain ideas of invading a unified Germany.

During WW2 pots and pans were collected to make combat helmets. After the war they were converted back into pots and pans. Recycling at its best!

The vast majority of these helmet were probably surplus helmets still in the factories. Any helmets with holes was probably discarded.
