      Life wasn't simple at all. black people were being lynched and blatantly discriminated against with no redress.
      No, life was tough. I admire these artists who braved it all and produced music like this.

      Thought I was the only one who practiced in the MIRROR... LOL ... What do you expect from a GUY... We invented EVERYTHING... Everything but that whack upside the head the Ghost of my Best Lady just gave me.
      Love this tune. One needs headphones to truly appreciate the BASS... That AXEMAN was REALLY walking it... Straight UP (and DOWN) SUNSET BOULEVARD...

      @@lewistonsmith6179 Not on the East Coast or West Coast.... Blacks and Whites got along in my neigborhood. You are referring to the South with the KKK on lynching Blacks. Not that it's ok what the ass backwards people down south felt about negroes or so they were called in those days. But it wasn't like that in most of America.

    The music of the early 70s gives me a sense of calm & an awesome feeling when life seemed so pure uncomplicated and simple. Food tasted better and kids played outside...no keeping up with cell phones or having to pay to watch TV! 😥😊

      I was half your age in 1970. Lol. But I remember this song well. For those born I would say between 1963 - 1967 How many of yall had the "See and Say" phonograph. I used to take my mom and dad's 45's and play them on that record player Back then, I used to sneak and play this, It's a Shame by the Spinners, Westbound #9, 5-10-15-20 by the Presidents, Still Water by the Four Tops, Ooh Child by the Five Stairsteps. Those records were all out at the same time.

    one of my favorite songs in my life. I was 10 years old and the song was playing at the roller rink where I was skating with my brothers and sister. Back in 1970. And my Dad came to pick us up, it was wintertime. And Anne Murray's "Snowbird" was playing on the radio. And Neil Diamond's "Cracklin' Rosie". We felt so secure driving home from the roller rink with our Dad.

    The music of 1970 was definite proof of new day. "Groovy Situation" & "It's a Shame" had the same exact ingredients that made them great. Especially the horns & bass....Soooo good.

    • @vincentrobinson9645
      @vincentrobinson9645 5 лет назад +3

      Bentom86 I was thinking the same thing. U know the Spinners had struggled to even chart till Stevie Wonder wrote “It’s A Shame” for them in 1970, which was a big hit!!

    • @Bentom86
      @Bentom86 5 лет назад +3

      @@vincentrobinson9645 It was also at that time when Berry Gordy was butting heads with Stevie and Marvin Gaye. They both had come into their prime as artists who were now doing it all with writing and producing for themselves and for others. For Gordy that seemed to be more about rebellion than progress, and he wanted no part of allowing Marvin to create "What's Going On" (recorded in '70-'71) with its subject matter of war, drugs, poverty, & religion. Of course, the album turned out to be an epic masterpiece and he was quick to embrace those results.
      But 1970 was a monumental time to say the least. And along with "It's a Shame" and "Groovy Situation", I failed to mention Stevie's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered", Diana's version of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "Love or Let Me Be Lonely" by The Friends of Distinction, and "Ooh Child" from the Spiral Staircase...so many brilliant ones all from that year with excellent horns, bass, rhythm, and voices!
