Early Morning Wakening Blues - THE SWEET MUDD ZEPPELIN BLUES BAND

Formed by lead singer Reg "Downer" Downton and lead guitarist Morton "Frets" Stanley after they failed auditions for a new John Mayall outfit in 1969, the Sweet Mudd Zeppelin Blues band saw only minor success with a top ten hit in Sierra Leone and Gabon in 1971 before imploding under the pressure of copyright lawsuits from several British rock bands, and the enduring psychosis Downton suffered from after a nightmarish trip on Ibogaine while he was hanging out with the Bwiti who, he later claimed, "really dug our scene, man". After the group split Downton released a solo album "Breaking Open My Head" which flopped, and he subsequently withdrew from virtually all human association, preferring to paint and lacquer strange patterns on random domestic appliances and converse with squirrels. Stanley, of course, went on to much more success with his proto-punk band The Suckers in the mid 70s. AI gen.
