Lewis if you see this, your voice is MUCH better than you think it is, your performances have earned you more confidence than you give it! Belt that talent man!
Technically, they just dropped one of the best albums of the year and already have almost an hour worth of NEW music??? They're on a league of their own honestly
Interesting shift in genres. The debut was post-punk and klezmer, Ants was a mix of folk and post-rock, and this new material seems like baroque pop. All very good :)
I can't help but think that this formation, with every member sharing front person duties would've greatly helped Isaac. hope he can get back - such an amazing group of musicians.
They have said that they were already in talks about trying out this format before Isaac left but I think by then he’d unfortunately already made his decision ):
I was worried about where this band would go without Isaac. I honestly expected them to get much more instrumental, but they really figured out a new approach that works really well! The bassist especially has a great voice that works really well with their sound! She could easily take over as the main lead and it would be wonderful.
Laughing song is the best unreleased song I’ve ever heard. Tyler’s voice is absolutely beautiful and seeing may and Charlie do it as well is outstanding!
Wait, hold on, did they just played a whole new set without anything from their 2LP'S? Are you telling me that we might get a new album like next year?
thanks for posting this.. clicked on it casually to see what they were up to these days but they’re going in a seriously phenomenal direction. seems like beginning of something very big, and this is the record. so thanks.
rn i really like up song, laughing song, i wont always love you, the wrong trousers, turbines/pig and dancers. just all of it its great, i love it. bc,nr is so coolio
Their new stuff is their best yet imo. I need to stop listening to this so I’m not sick of it when they actually record it. I saw them at prima and man it’s just so good, The Boy is stunning, very Joanna Newsom. They also came across like they were having so much fun at prima, really tight and together as a band.
This 100%. I love AFUT and Isaac, but I am glad he left in a way because it seemed his mental health was seeping his into music and writing. Sure, their lyrics aren’t the same as Isaac’s poetry, but those instrumentals are so tight. Tyler’s songs are complete standouts in their own right - her delivery and solo compositions that have now been made into complete songs are brilliantly strong. I mean when was the last time BCNR did something as intense as the ending to I Won’t Always Love You? Lewis’s songs are also very cute (Across The Pond Friend is so catchy ! ), and May’s voice is beautiful, with her lyrics probably being the strongest input so far. They still have it and will only grow stronger from here.
@@trademark5124 I have a feeling that their best material is ahead of them. I can say whole-heartedly that Turbines/Pigs will be maybe my favourite BCNR song when released.
Does anyone know if they are already recording an album with the songs without Isac? I'm killed by the intrigue of knowing in which direction they are going
A little late but just in case it wasn’t answered yet, yes she does. Geese was actually written by and is supposed to be sung by Georgia once she returns to the band.
Am I the only one who misses the tension / intensity Isaac brought to the band- yeah they can all play but a lot of these news songs sound quite conventional mid 2000's baroque pop through a Beirut/Sufjan lens- too well mannered for my liking
I know what you mean, although in the performances I’ve seen online, it doesn’t seem like that always came through quite the same live as it did in studio. That’s not to say the same difference or a similar one is guaranteed with the band in its current arrangement, but it’s a possibility. A couple songs do seem to have a similar vocal intensity/tension, namely I Won’t Always Love You, but again, hard to say at this point - no studio recordings and only a few live performances, all thus far lacking one member. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but lucky for me, I like what I’m hearing, with or without consideration for the circumstances.
yup. they're incredible musicians, and it's all very well-executed and pretty fun to listen to, but it's lost the special sauce. it's not exciting or challenging anymore. edit: this is just based on what's been available of their new stuff online. maybe the studio versions will blow my mind -- but honestly i doubt it. isaac's intense, raw vulnerability and unique songwriting pushed this band from the good to the exceptional. you can't make up for that with any amount of skill imo.
while I agree, it is also worth noting that Isaac had been the front man of the band since basically 2018, making a shift this big is sure to change the sound of the songs. besides, all the songs have been made in the last 5 months. I'd give them time.
Another Basil smash hit!
Thanks John!

True, I was obsessed with his "good with parents" ep for some time. Sadly it's not on Spotify anymore

I'm so honestly surprised how on par it is with their previous works!! They haven't missed a beat.
I'm a simple man. May announces "Chapter 2!" and I declare it the absolute pinnacle of British engineering.
Agreed

They could release all of this now and it would already be an amazing album
Legit. So the fact that they're still working on this is incredibly exciting!
boy do i have some good news for you
I love the way Tyler hugs her bass when shes not playing it.
These guys are so god it hurts, its hard not to get romantic about there music but god damn they arrange with such emotion.
Across the pond friend in amazing!! what a beautiful voice Lewis has, im in loveee

Man this sounds amazing, they sound better than ever! Up Song is fucking incredible. Can't wait to get this stuff properly recorded.
I have the feeling that I'll be crushed to pieces when the official version of Turbine/Pigs comes out.
Damn...
So, this is basically the third album. It's pretty good. Love them.
The fact that all of the members are taking on some form of vocal part brings me joy on a level i cannot yet express. Cheers so much for the upload!
wow, lewis's voice is great !
Geese and Up song are so good, they both really sound like they could’ve been on Ants if they had a little more polish.
Geese is my new favorite bcnr track.. wow that was so angelic
Wait, hold on, did they just played a whole new set without anything from their 2LP'S? Are you telling me that we might get a new album like next year?
Finally!!! You’re doing gods work
yo you too! thankyu both for documenting this awesome band (and all the others) :)

Up Song has my whole heart
Best band on the planet, currently by a country mile
Was so pleased to finally see them live! Now I can perpetually relive it until LP3 drops, thanks
Ok... I wasn´t wrong when I decided to trust this band completely. Up Song is already a classic.

Anyone going to their live in Turin?
TBE upload
AaaAAUUUGGHHH
GEESE

Is there any chance we could get some uploads of these videos with lossless audio to MEGA or w/e?
Does Georgia sing too, when she is available?
Probably, we’ll just wait and see
I remember she did once and did really well on some cover set they did for a Livestream

is a Geese a cover or just a song of theirs that didn't make it onto Bush Hall?
