Greetings Doug. A great video. Great to see these beautiful canoes and how they are built. When my daughters were younger we build a Halloween costume of a small two-person birch bark canoe. We made "fake" bark out of cardboard and cut two holes in the bottom so they could stand and had harnesses over their shoulders so they could walk with the canoe at about waist level. I love your starting and ending clips. Such a beautiful location. Thank you for sharing.

Do they ever sit lightly on the water. I came from not far from Cardinal. We had a couple of craftsman come to work with a Eastern style canoe they made from a birch tree harvested from the company property. They held a raffle for that canoe. Man, I wanted it. Very cool vid Doug . The logistics of shipping must be interesting. Tom has found a unique product from the past and brought it back to today where most are fiberglass - plastic and aluminum, built in factories sold to the masses. The time in gathering the materials and building one canoe is far from a job it's a passion to create something like that my ancestors used as voyageurs many years ago. Just awesome Tom .

Damn, I like this guy! This is what I need to do. I'm going to float down the Pearl River on an innertube until I find the perfect Poplar tree and take it. I will build camp there and form the thing. Then, I will float it to New Orleans and then around the gulf Coast and as far up the East coast as I can.

Thank you for making this video, I'm from a reserve closer to Peterborough and I'm currently on my path to build birch bark canoes and I'm currently repairing one. Damn, I like this guy! This is what I need to do. I'm going to float down the Pearl River on an innertube until I find the perfect Poplar tree and take it. I will build camp there and form the thing. Then, I will float it to New Orleans and then around the gulf Coast and as far up the East coast as I can.
