His comment essentially insinuated that "everyone in the west should understand my background as well as I do." What gives? Does he understand all the subtle cultural tendencies amongst individuals that migrated to the west? Of course not & there's nothing wrong with that. Just comes off as self-absorbed.

fun fact- in the old days local pride pettiness was so high between shanghai and neighboring city hangzhou that the locals would deliberately give false directions to visitors from the other city (distinguishable by accent) who tried to make their way around town.
