Tony Jaa was like the 2nd coming of Bruce Lee + Jackie Chan! When I first saw Ong Bak, I was so amazed! As a Muay Thai practitioner, I was so excited for Tony Jaa's future films. I thought Tony Jaa was poised for Super Stardom, but it never came. He just got a small role in a Fast and Furious movie and it never went past that. Maybe because he didn't speak English well? That was my thought. Anyway, I love that Jesus Christ Cross necklace! Keep up the great work!
I think there were other reasons..but also curious why he kinda went off the radar
I thought BILLY CHONG in Crystal Fist/Jade Claw 1979 intro was Bruce Lee + Jackie Chan!
He wanted to be a father…… so much of a fan 😂
The Protector. Put Tony Jaa on the map. I just believe Tony Jaa never got that big Hollywood action film of his own as the main lead. But overall Tony Jaa is a straight up legend of this era.
You know what I want to see ?! A movie starring Tony Jaa facing off with the guy from The Raid, Iko Uwais !
All ready did. The film is called TRIPLE THREAT. GREAT FIGHT SCENE.
Yes Triple Threat it's awsome. But another one could be intersting to watch again, in my humble opinion. They will be togheter in the same team in The Expendables 4 against Barney Ross Team.
Expendables 4 is coming lol
The first ongbak i watched atleast 8 times .. It was an amazing movie .. The fight scenes with the right background music holly molly that movie was one of the best ever made it was truly a masterpiece in martial arts and the presentation of it with serious styling
The Protector movie is badass and that movie were Scott Atkins and Michael Jai White are villains that's a good one
@@marceezy6983 Yes Triple Threat was great.
Jaa will make a triumphic come-back. Hell, Stallone is still making action movies at age 80..
Stallone cast Jaa in Expendables 4, coming out next month
The first ongbak was the best martial arts movie i saw since the early 90s lion heart being the last best one to myself. I tried watching the second ongbak and i did not even finish it after the first 15 minutes thats how Cheap it came across. I never watched another tony jaa movie after that .... I was very disappointed.
I remember when ong bak came out. I had a lot of friends from the Philippines, and one of them showed it to me. It was awesome. Then I saw the protector. That is one of my all time favorite martial arts films. I wish he had gotten more well known and had more leading roles instead of just as side characters.
Incredible interview love Tony Jaa and Ong Bak and The Protector… Really had high hopes he would have sustained that type of success but fascinating behind the scenes interview.
I said this on the Viking Samurai RUclips channel over a month ago that I believed that Tony Jaa making Ong Bak 2 and 3 a period movie from the Mongolian era instead of keeping them in modern day like Ong Bak 1 and The Protector, then he wouldn't of fell off like he did. I think a lot of people didn't care for the Period movie and should of kept it modern day.
Nah, Tony never had it just a one trick pony that fizzed out.
I think vs gets the right people for truth of these interviews keep the good work up thanks
You should do a video on Ernie Reyes Jr
Film w/ JCVD and the woman from Chocolate would have been fire. I am pretty sure I saw it way back when. The 4 min stair scene of the Protector and all the limb breaking was amazing!
There have been a lot of factors that led to Tony Jaa downfall...one of the main reasons ..he had a bad conflict with Sahamongkol film company which signed him for a ten years contract since Ong Bak which didn't allow him to film any foreigner movies and wasting a lot opportunities like Die Hard 4 , Rush hour 3 and more, then had a lot of problems with that company which which made the shooting of Ong Bak 2 stopping for a while ..in 2013 his contract was over by that time he made his final film for Saha which is The protector 2..the movie was a total disaster..Sahamongkol law suied Tony before the court made a final judgment which made Tony Jaa free and leave.
Another reason of the downfall was the death of Jaa mentor Mr Panna Rittikrai who died in 2014...Panna had an important contribution in Jaa career besides Jeeja and Dan Chupong..he was the one who made Jaa a star ..he had a great vision in action design and fight choreo and how to make decent action..his death was not a downfall for Tony Jaa only but the whole thai action film industry.
Hey VS, what's up! Enjoyed the video with Bey...here's an idea for a comeback...Tony Jaa & Jee Ja team up for Forget Me Not!
The synopsis that Logan describes (about 3 stuntmen), sounds a little bit like a German martial arts movie called Plan B. Worth a watch.
I liked Tom Yung Goong/ Protector parts 1 and 2 also
If were a world that made sense it would be a Tony jaa era or johnny tri Nguyen as well as dan chupong because they have that something to them 👊
Dan Chupong is very very underrated. He got looks, talent, hard working and brave. More people should see Born to fight (2004). The guy is insane...
That stunt man movie would be cool idea. They did something similar with Magician's robbing a bank.
Actually I really liked the idea of Onebak 2 take place in New York with an American actor, but the actor needed to be somebody that’s really good That could keep up with Tony like Jason Statham or Scott Atkins.
I remember back around 2013, it was a western action comedy film called (a man will rise) that both tony jaa and dolph lundgren are in, directed by tony jaa & another person…. But for some odd reason it never came out, do anybody know why?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Man_Will_Rise
Van damme and Tony jaa jump in the air and both did flying kicks together
They filmed medallion here in wicklow and Dublin which is not a part of the UK Bey !!
Yes, I know. I always knew! Very bad slip of the tongue. Sorry again!
@TheBeylogan anyhow 😄.... I should say those hk legends dad's were my childhood and I loved watching your commentary and behind the scenes work so thankyou sir !
I think the language barrier really hurt tony.I know jackie had it to.but,he was funny.tony just needed to speak better English. But,his stunts, especially the fight upstairs one shot, one of best
Steven Seagal teaching Tony Jaa... That would have been interesting. And yeah, Skin Trade was a good movie.
Chocolate is an awesome awesome movie. So is High Kick Girl and Power Kids.
Another great back story on Tony Yaa!!!
Tony still does amazing fight scenes he was great in SPL 2 , Skin Trade , Triple Threat he still has his physical gifts. I Don t think Tony English has nothing to do with it HW has there own people they no who he is etc. There is a reason why Jackie stop going to HW Donnie also they may do things here and there they are not consumed with HW. They still make international great movies and its not like back in the day everyone comes to HW. Now you can be a star anywhere world wide Canda, all threw Europe, south America, china etc. Tony will be fine he living his best life
Id love to hear bey talk lorean avedon his rise & fall
Haha! Where to start? 😂
@TheBeylogan what?lorean was and is a good martial artist, who never got that big break.king of the kickboxers, no retreat no surrender 2 & 3 were good martial arts movies
Tony Jaa is in Expendables 4 which will hit theaters Sept. 23
The lady in white, actually this is a haunted building....BEY! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have spoken with a few martial artists about tony and what they thought of the movies and style and even a few actors and then why he's not around what happened. One actor in particular that comes to mind maybe because he was the most recent I had the conversation about tony.. was (and a few people said this too) but it was because Tony didn't speak English well. And this particular actor not an A lister but he's kinda known, I laughed and was thinking that's a stupid response. I said if that was the case they could have dubbed his voice or to not could have recorded the dialogue later. But then from a few sources I heard tony killed his own chances at becoming an action star because he wanted more money, he wanted to direct and be producer all in one and run how the movie will be made. I also heard that he had a fall out with one of his friends/ movie partners/creator . ..this while contracting a movie with a north American studio and one from some Asian country. But overall I think he could have been up there with the better martial arts actors especially showing off a discipline not really scene much in movies which is a shame.
So like with many up and coming artist, bad management ruined & stunted his flustering career....
@workaholick like don wilson & lorean avedon
Heard filming ong back 3 was horrible. Tony directed & barely showed up & was difficult
I got into Muay Boran and Chia after OngBak. That was the best Muay Fu ever on screen.
the short ver. I believe why he didn't become a "International" star is because:
1- was not fluent in English
2- probably didn't fit the visual (lets be honest, those that have made it internationally are good-looking guys. Not that Tony is ugly. But.. you know what i mean).
3- outside from amazing skills, he had no charisma as say (van damme, jackie, arnold, stallone, Segal etc). You gotta have something other than talent for people to connect with you. That's where lot of these upcoming action stars fall short.
If Jaa had been around from the mid 80s to the late 90s he would have been a star, he was just too late to the scene, tastes in movie genre changed. It didn't help that his English wasn't the best, that said it didn't hurt Jackie Chan much, be he already had a huge domestic market anyway
I just want to say tony was great in monster hunter as a co lead a big buget film that didnt do well
"Chocolate one of the most awesome action movies ever made" dude, these producers lol.
So basically bad timing and clueless producers/managers got in the way of his career. Incredibly sad. Hope Iko Uwais is doing good and how awesome would be seeing those 2 together.
I have to see it the title turned me off lol.
The hip hop music and rap star cameos in Martial arts films ruins the movie, Miramax did that with Jackie Chan's movies changing the original soundtrack with Everybody was Kung Fu fighting hip hop track. Sounds like Tony wanted to keep his movies as Thai as possible and Bey was chasing the Golden Goose and Jaa was running away from him, Skin Trade is so over the top violent and it was sad watching 50 and 60 year olds trying to act and move like 30 year olds.
Northern Island is part of the UK, not Ireland. But very interesting piece and informative 👍 Personally I think is a travesty that Tony didn’t break in to Hollywood, especially after the fast and furious film. His skill set is unmatched and should be in a massive budget film.
Apologies to all our Irish fans! Very bad slip of the tongue on my part! Most of Ireland is not, of course, part of the UK.
Thaicoons? LMAO! What a great word for a CEO in Thailand!
Yo Viking have u seen Triple Threat movie it stars Tony Jaa , Scott Atkins and Michael Jai White
I have not
Man of a thousand poisons sounded good.shame never happened. Probably couldn't happen now
Isn’t it hand of 1000 Poisons?
29th!!!!!
Tony Jaa did not have the looks of a big movie star. Loved Ong Bak and The Protector.
the comedic Mum Jokmuk, Tony Jaa partner in One Bak, is actually a bigger star in Thailand. Tony Jaa isn't that big of deal in the muay Thai scene in Thailand.
To be fair I thought ong Bak 2 was pretty badass, the fights were really cool and different, but 3 was terrible and Tony Jaa was noticeably slower and chubby and out of shape which was disappointing
I dont think he was really charismatic enough to be a huge star in the west, I very much appreciate his skills, bit he just isnt super-star material in my mind.
I like Ong Bak 2 better than 1. The ending fight scene is one of the best martial arts scene in all film, in it's entirety. The ending of part 2 is also on my favorite endings ever, of any movie. Now Ong Bak 3, I feel completely ruined the series.
I agree with you totally. Ong bak 2 is an awesome film but I feel that movie could of been it's own thing. I think the title ruined it for a lot of people. And then you have the 3rd one! What the heck were they thinking and going with that one cause the whole thing ruined it
So glad Steven Seagal did not get the rights to Ong-Bak!!!! Him teaching Ting, Muay Thai, ridiculous!🤣
I’m curious to what exactly Bey is referring to as far as problems that Tony was having that were kind of obvious, I’m wondering because it’s all pure speculation, was it drugs? Ego? Viking did he tell you what issues Jaa was dealing with ?
I remember reading online message forums (around 2007/8?) that it was a nervous breakdown..
He got complacent, if you think you're gonna make it big time not speaking english then i have real estate to sell you.
It's the mindset of some non English speaking folk. They scoff at learning it 🤷♂️
I liked Ong-Bak and The Protector but I couldn't get into Ong-Bak 2.
Bey Logan is spot on here. He had so much potential, but he never developed his English (acting) skills. Physically he could've been the next Jackie Chan. Maybe he even was.
He can still do a comeback. By the way, Bey Logan is a legend and we need more of him.
Not spot on in saying ireland is part of the uk
Agreed! @@liamoreilly783
@@liamoreilly783 exactly and as an English man he should already know this!
Bey is a legend ? Lol
@@tonymontana4284 he isn't? He ran over your dog?
Shout out to the lady in white
Bey.... Ireland is not part of the UK.
Tony jaa tried to star in Boyka 5 and y'know he does his own stunts BIG mistake Scott adkins went full method on Tony and TOTALLY DESTROYED him😂
Really ?🤔🧐
I do not like Golden Bell. Argued with the owner and he literally has so many stories that are gossip that he purports to be truth it's amazing. He also isn't open minded and is happy to tell you how wrong you are instead of researching and considering it. Things change all the time. I brought up the Baker letters and he more or less told me he didn't believe they were real!? I have seen them with my own eyes and they are not forgeries and are in Bruce's and on occasion, Linda's, Handwriting. I wasn't there to destroy his world, I was trying to bring shed some light on what he was missing. In the end I had to unsub, set him to DO NOT RECOMMEND and move on. It was disappointing. But such is life sometimes. Not everyone can be Viking Samurai. That's for sure!
He also seems to never wash his face.
@@mojebi3804 I think that's just bad lighting. But I could be wrong.
Ireland is not part of the UK all Americans need to learn that
Bey is from UK and a Hong Kong resident, he's Not American
Then he should know Ireland is not part of the uk
@@peterduffy566north ireland?
I DO know! It was a very bad slip of the tongue. Gabh mo leithscéal do chách!
Ong Bak 2 & 3 were a disaster. Such a let down. That really destroyed Tony Jaa's acting career. Bad decisions.
Those 2 films weren't needed
Just to Clarify Bey Ireland is not part of the United Kingdom.Northern ireland is! 🙄
Yes! I can't say sorry enough times... Very bad slip of the tongue!
Sorry Bey Logan, you are completely wrong yet again, just like you were about Jason Scott Lee. If you were right and had a talent for spotting stars your useless Crouching tiger Hidden Dragon 2 wouldn't have been an epic flop. You obviously have a fetish or fixation for Kung Fu actors but am sorry the majority of the audience don't. Tony Jaa had a daft name, wasn't good looking enough, didn't have the charisma etc etc etc. Honestly, I think Bey Logan thinks anyone he gets involved with in the industry could or should be a star. There was no room for this guy. No range about him. Nothing about him that brought anything new or dynamic to the table. The girls didn't fancy him and the men didn't want to be him. Very simple. Honestly, why are so many people in the film industry so deluded they think they are better than they are. It's only a very very few who go on to become mega stars. Hollywood had a talent for picking correctly. They were spot on with: Schwrazenegger, Stallone, Seagal, JCVD, Charles Bronson, Chuck Noriss. If the actor is good enough, let alone all the other factors which have to line, he will get there, eventually. Come on Bey Logan, spend more time analysing why your films bomb and you make a load of trash.
Come on, 'Acquiesce100', stop beating about the bush. Tell us what you REALLY think...!
I enjoy your videos greatly, except when you don't seem aware of what a scammer Steven Seagal is :/
