I love the "blurry". It happened because you used a paint brush and activated and actually spread the underpaint. If you use a brayer and work very quickly and thinly, then let dry completely, you will have that sharper image that you were looking for. Again, I hope I am not overstepping. Love your art!!!

    • @artwhisperer88

In regards to the tearing, when you pull your "ghost" prints, a thinner layer of activating paint and longer drying time might be helpful. The problem is the paint is mostly dry, but paper is still wet. Some people let their "ghost " prints dry for hours. When both paint and paper are completely dry no tearing. I hope I'm not overstepping here. I love your art and love watching your videos! Quite inspirational!

The ghost pulls are beautiful, especially the last one it was lovely, I wonder if lightly misting the paper would help it to not tear, although I realise it may create further texture on the print . Experiment is wonderfully exciting. Look up on youtube a British fellow, his channel is Yeats makes, a different style from yours but he may give you further inspiration, and he also uses matte medium. Thank you for sharing and the all the final prints with the shapes came out terrific. Cheers!

So much to love in the monster trio! Good to see you try the colorless acrylic binder to lift the ghost print. A shame, but I think applying it thickly with the brush blurred your images. Just a suggestion but treat yourself to a 6-8" brayer and you'll cover your larger gel plate area more smoothly and quickly.

To prevent smears, I use packing tissue to cover the back of the print paper being sure to cover the exposed paint on the edge of the plate. Then burnish as usual with hand or barren.
PS - I don’t buy the packing tissue. I rescue it from packages. Also at Hobby Lobby and Home Goods they wrap purchases with big sheets of thin paper and will always give away a few sheets if you ask.

I liked how you worked out the issues you had with the pull you liked least. Something I missed on your ghost prints were the hand drawn elements in your fist pull, I think the combination of the stencils and drawn marks work really well and somehow have the effect of unifying the whole print.
I love these large prints, but will never have those huge plates, I wonder if you ever tried using the smaller (8x10, 6x6, 5x5 etc) to work on large paper/ finished pieces.
I wonder if you conditioned your plates whether tearing would be less of a concern? Just a thought.
I loved the first and third prints, but unusually liked the first one best. I have watched a few of you videos and frequently prefer your first ghost! Great video!

Would it be possible to maybe lightly run the brayer with the same color of paint, on the print right after the pull. on the seam line here and there to break it up? Or even lightly with a paint brush, but the brayer would already have the paint at the ready. Just a thought that ran across my mind in a run by 😁

Your prints are very fine. There must be someway to hide that seam. Maybe right after the pull, use your finger to rub extra paint over the mark made by the split. Of course that may be troublesome when you have as much as six pulls. Maybe not, you probably only have to do it for the top layer…

Your ability to create a composition with the seam covers the issue.
My mind wants a solution. What if you were to create your own gelatin and allow it to cool and thicken. It would setup quickly as it poured into the crack.
An ice-bed would chill the pan and your plates to help it along.
      It may be too complicated.
Your curiosity makes me feel like I am in the room with you, feeling that anticipation in the pull. I always ask myself "what if?"
Your process has given me so many answers for moving forward with my own work. Thank you.
