You deserve praise for the quality of presentation. Your humility is so refreshing. You don't pretend to be something your not. I am so tired of all the videos on line here that are extremely pretentious and arrogant. And thank you for not making us listen to your brand of music. Can't stand people putting awful music in videos that destroys all the content because of it. Anyway, well done. Thank you for the great content.
Remembering to turn your traction control off every time the bike shuts off really sucks. Got myself in a few situations because of that. Other than that I think the 390 adventure does a good job of keeping this 60 year old entertained.
And I just bought for my KTM 390 ADV new PEGS from BDCW and BAR RISERS and trying to think what brand of hand guards to go with the stock handle bars. Nice Vid!
Wow, that was very helpful in preparing mentally for what is up ahead. New KTM 390 Adventure for a 60 something with decades of on road experience and minimal off-road. I’ll be heading up and down numerous mountains in the Philippines. You’ll be pro in no time with your attitude.
Hey, great stuff, nice trail and nice bike! 😁 I’m new to adventure riding also and just bought a KTM 390 Adventure also! I accepted the bike would spend a fair amount of time on its side so added crash bars and bar busters, also engine case protectors now. You can see in my intro video.. also me falling off 5 or 6 times! 😀 Look forward to more vids, Colorado looks nice!
You appear to be making admirable progress for 'a novice', as you claimed - VERY encouraging how you got through/over the rocks. ` looks to me, at 71 contemplating learning to ride for exploring, like the 390 Adventure is more capable than many (most?) 'reviews', I've seen. Thanks - for your candid observations about guiding the bike and the pegs and handlebar risers impact on your riding confidence.
Discoveror, At the time (doing Webster Pass on the KTM) it was very nerve-racking. I've since changed bikes a few times, first to a HD Pan America, and then adding a second (lighter) bike to the garage. Here's the same ride on the Pan America: ruclips.net/video/519-0vBZz1c/видео.html I would still say I'm very novice on off-road, but weight has really started to play a big role in what I want to ride. I've dropped my Pan America enough to where I just didn't like the idea of continuing to do that. I started looking at light/middle-weight ADV bikes to allow for more off-road performance. ADV riding is very much a compromise in all sorts of different areas (weight, seat height, suspension, etc). Being able to figure out what kind of riding you want to do the most, then selecting the right bike for that is my biggest challenge. I think the 390 ADV is pretty capable, and VERY capable when compared to other light-weight ADV bikes. It's also under 400lbs. It took me a bit to feel 'comfortable' that drops are going to happen...but once I got to that point, it's made riding off-road more enjoyable. Ride Safe!
@@exploready Wondering if I'm 'crazy', wanting to learn to explore on a motorcycle, I, too, am undecided on the dual/Adventure borders. At 6'2" (220 lbs in 'space suit') with ~35" inseam I can flat-foot a 37" seat; BUT ... is, for example, a KLX300 too tall to inspire confidence, learning? Lightweights, like the KLX300 or CRF300L, seem to need nearly unspeakable rpm's for extended highway cruising. Enough cc's and torque for below say 4,000 rpm cruising bring quarter-ton weights to pick up. Ah, what's a YOUNG lad to do?
I came to this video after watching your recent one about choosing the Tuareg 660 over other light- and mid-weight adventure bikes. In that you said you felt the lower hp bikes had trouble at higher altitudes. In this video you don't mention that sort of difficulty. I live in NYS, so my max elevations are 4-5,000 feet (if I should ride the Whites in NH). So I'm curious when & how you noticed the problem with your TKM 390, which I am enjoying a lot. I also suspect that a Fuel X which adjusts the mixture flexibly might improve lower air pressure behavior. Thanks for your videos!
Honest assessment of Webster Pass, like it! I'm in my early 50's, new to the world of 2 wheels. Nice to have a video to watch that isn't a seasoned professional making everything look easy. I'm from Michigan, but will be staying out in Breckenridge for a couple of months in the autumn, bringing my Honda CRF300L with me. If I'm feeling brave, might give that trail a try.
These are the little bags used up front: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DCNVJDL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1 Can be coupled with some water proof liners: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AZNATC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The panniers are Kriega OS series bags.
To the left you can see my phone mount (but I don't think that's what you were referring to), and on the actual dash is the stock KTM screen, however there is a GPS mount above it.
Sorry for not being clear I’m asking about the windscreen, it doesn’t seem to be the standard one? My 2021 390 ADV came with a different looking screen
Yeah, can tell you are new to off road. I'm gonna be conservative here on my estimation: the 500 EXC-F is 5x better than the 390 off road. Good ride. Get used to the drops, they are going to happen. No big deal, everybody has them.
Nice to see a fellow noob’s perspective. PS. Get yourself a fluffy mic cover, the treble is coming through way too strong. I can hear your mouth too much.

Enjoyed the detailed narration. I have the KTM 390 and also am just getting started off road. Will be heading to Colorado from Maine in September.

What bar risers did you go with? Did they require any modifications to your clutch cable?

What bags did you use for the front side/pannier bags?

Man your voice is so deep, what do you do for a living?
Ha - That's my fav comment

Will do! I'm a noob at all sorts of stuff (like recording audio)
