When I was 18 I would swim in the river with a blue steel charter arms undercover in my pocket I would unload it after , remove the grips and spray it out with WD 40, gun never rusted and never failed from gum up . Yep I use 3 in 1 oil too . One thing I noticed is that when I would coat my carbon steel knife blades with 3in 1 oil and put them away for few years the oil would solidify like soft varnish and prevent the blades from rusting
My vote is for Lucas!!! As a car guy I have been using Lucas products over 20 years... As a gun guy I have been using Lucas Extreme for last 4 years just off the strength of their auto products... I must say I like the Lucas better than Frog Lube, Hoppes 9, even Hog Grease
Wow another fantastic video Rick! Surprised to see no Hoppes(Im not necessarily a fan of it, but its damn popular) and slightly surprised to see no LSA(Old MilSpec lubricant that STILL works amazing. Was recommended to me by GunBlue490 youtube channel. Hes a really great guy. I use it, it works great.) Anyways, your the best Uncle Rick!
What a fun experiment! I can’t wait to see the results. Our Woman’s Group really pushes the Lucas Gun Oil. I like it for my Glocks because I can take them completely down and clean after shooting, but my friends Sig 365 looks gross because she doesn’t take it all the way down and it really builds up the black gunk. I like the Rem Oil oil but not the cleaner. The cleaner leaves funny marks on the silver slide on my 43X. I mostly use Hoppes which I do not see in this experiment. But I’m willing to switch based on your findings. It’s so exciting!!!
Hoppes 9 cleaner and oil are good. I've used them in my six shooter for almost 20 years. Before that Hoppes has a different number, I don't remember what it as. In my glock just dry firing with the itargetpro system it collects a lot of dust bunnies. The finish on the slide for the glock 19 gen 5 version 2 is well made but very slippery.
Ok, now I will go to my bathroom and collect all my bottles and jars with all kinds of "lubricants" for the skin and line them up. Let's see if I can beat your line. ;-)
Rick. One to add to your list is "Fluid Film" lanolin based and holds up to heat better than the above and suffers thru the cold winters better than the above. A completely submerged weapon will shed the water off. Give it a review. You will be surprised. It's all I use anymore.
My husband has these gloves in orange for his mechanic work and he loves them! I steal a box all the time because I love them too and use them in my house or for my caregiver job.
Oiling Nails That reminds me. Many years ago we used to build with Australian Hardwoods for framing. Often heavy duty nails would bend, we would have to oil or grease the nail shanks, or drill a pilot hole about 1/3 rd to 1/2 way through and fill the hole with oil before inserting & driving the nail. Back then saw sharpening was common and we often had to re-sharpen drill bits free hand.

Agree on not using WD40 as a lube or protectant, but WD for is a great dispersant and works the best I've found to clean in nooks and crannies. It separates dust and metal fillings so they just drip off. After, I use a laundry detergent to remove the WD, dry it off with compressed air, and then followed with my lube and protective product.
Where is the 15w-40 motor oil? I always figured if it can keep metal pistons that slide against a metal cylinder that makes a couple explosions each second in a car engine going good for thousands of miles, it will be good in my guns too.
Alright.....Alright......I'll try to make a habit of liking the videos........ I'm old than the almost-heimers is starting to win. Very cool. Thanks for hooking a Brother up. My oil bin on my shelf kinda looks like that. A dozen type of oils and grease. I think the CV-2 is going to replace my high temp bearing grease. Mossberg recommends dry lube for the gas ring and I think the CV-2 will also replace that. I use CLP for general cleaning so I doubt I will be getting rid of that anytime soon. I also use 3 in 1 with PTFE (Teflon) for triggers and bearings. The stuff is really thin and gets into the spaces that you cant really grease without a major takedown.
If you mink oil your boots every now and then they'll last longer and say water proof longer. It takes time but you take care of your boots and they take care of you. 3 things you don't cut corners with protection (guns), beds and boots. If your not in your boots you're in your bed. You'll spend a third of your life in it.
I use Frog Lube. The reason why is you don’t need to wear gloves and no bad fumes. Just make sure you apply it properly other wise you will have problems. It works great. Unless your working in the Desert environments.
I oiled several different types of steel case ammo with all different kinds of stuff and stuck them into a flower pot to see witch one will rust more. That was about a month ago and haven't looked at them yet.
Many years ago I used to have my boots re-soled but I don't know if anyone does that anymore. If so, I'd figure you could find someone in TX. It was about half the cost of a new pair and saved my feet the break-in associated with buying new boots.
Whats up Rick? I wonder what a nail without any oil or coating would look like in the same test. I understand that you didn't have that many nails though. Great video to say the least
What do you think about "Liquid Teflon" with a needle applicator. It has the consistency of a heavier gun oil. As you work it in it becomes lighter. I've never use it for firearms. However where metal meets metal it works well. Please let me know if you have any thoughts. Thankyou!
