Many people are saying that the game would have been better if it didn’t have incest. But the incest is the horror, Its supposed to be uncomfortable and disgusting. Your watching two siblings bicker and flirt like an ordinary couple and your supposed to be horrified by it.
It's also an emphasis on how codependent they are of each other.
It shows just how deep the connection is, even if it's f'd up.
The problem is that i genuinely think incest is morally grey

You joke about this but even just looking at the ads outside of the motel in chapter 2 you can see that the world is very similar to that of any GTA game, which is just a parody. While the entire world around them is just a joke, the cult actually tries to achieve something greater. Of course, with varying success...

Another RPG maker game that is on my ever-so-growing list of favorites.
It's disturbing because instead of relying on jumpscares, it doesn't pull punches with it's taboo and scarily real subject matter, which is of course very hard to do.
I can see this being regarded as a classic years from now.

It really is something special, it's quite charming. I just hope it's not utterly maligned into oblivion. It's been frustrating seeing people on Twitter shout down others for expressing any approval of it and how they've been writing it off as merely "cheap shock horror" and farming clout from tweeting "wtf this game has INCEST in it?! that's messed up guys!! nahhh who's even into this?!" and whatnot.
The parents get a lot worse in chapter two, really shows how Andrew and Ashley turned out how they did

Edit: I also have an interesting hypothesis, from the looks of it someone might have been (but maybe not) covering up their footprints from what they did as a child, must have been the parents or the mother (looking at the way she acts something might have gone down, and she knows and did something about the aftermath if their is maybe just unconscious leaving a while nother deep messed up theory - like in the end they realize that initial "kill" that led to this life was a whole misunderstanding)

Incest was objectively the least morally wrong thing in the entire game. The thing is, we became so much desensitized to violence that we never even consider it being bad
Nah I think the thing is that: Murder and common dark themes are bad by default and nobody bats an eye on those things. The problem with incest is that it deals with something much more complex that is loving relationships, leaving people in chaos and not knowing any better. That, or maybe it's because it defies a conception we had of something as endearing and important like a sibling relationship

Ngl these two might be at to the top of my list of characters that i hate liking, yet i cannot stop. Goes to show how well the plot is executed.
And i'm (unpleasantly?) surprised that i found most hot explicitly their relationship, not just Ashley as is as maniac waifu (she is fine, but not like Pinkamena or other top notch ones)
because they so insanely entangled that you cant help but envy such strong bond even if you really would be prefer more healthy one. Mr. "You think i'm reasonable here?" and Ms "World will burn if its what need to make brother forever mine" and their uneasy but charming interactions
in my opinion, this game is everything horrid. cannibalism, incest, abusive relationships, basically anything bad. the best part about this game is that everyone is equally fucked up in a way, and you're just watching these characters interact in the funniest and best ways possible. i hope that there is an ending that andrew cuts off ashley and actually gets to live happy (i don't need to hope for incest ending because we all know that's coming)
Judging by the decay vision, there will be at least one in which Andrew kills Ashley, but I think it's more probable that he's going to kill himself after that
Andrew isn't as good as you think he is. Yea what ashley did is pretty fucked up, but the reason why andrew keeps her around is because he wants to bang her, but also wants a social life and atleast has some morals unlike her. And there are many hints on him liking her sexually throughout episode 2 too, heck he was really jealous in ep1. They are equally obsessive of each other, just in different unhealthy ways. For ashley, she obsesses over andrew because he was the only one that was there for her, whether it be birthdays or whatnot. They are quite literally inseparable, atleast thats what ashley wants. All she wanted was to live and have her brother by her side, and only hers, no matter what means she has to use to keep him tied to her. She has really serious self esteem issues, which is why she always tries to get him to praise her. He is the only person whose words or actions would hurt her at this point. There is also indication in the game that if andrew kills her, he would later kill himself because he can't live without her lol.

But now, i am forced to try and defend this, so here is my somewhat believable explanation as to why every second scene Andrew is groping his own sister:
to put it sweet and short, i believe that the physical barrier is long since been broken. when Ashley describes Andrew having a panic attack and crawling over to her bed, she doesn't describe as an excuse, and i'm inclined to believe her so i don't need to think about sissy fucker Andrew. and other scenes where Andrew touches Ashley in more intimate areas, it's never THAT intimate. when he grabs her little short thing that i definitely remember the name of, we can excuse it to his hand being low and he just grabbing the closest thing sister, or when he twirls her hair, we can excuse it the same. now, that one piece of artwork from the devlog where Andrew has his two little magic fingers entering Ashley"s shorts, i cannot defend, maybe chalk it up to being noncanon? but the time where he is staring at his sister's lips... you got me cornered man.

@@bean_man_ thats the thing, they have showed really disturbing actions of andrew that are not so defendable, which is why the other "defendable" actions of his actually have a twist to it. Normally, it wouldn't seem that bad but andrew ever so subtly shows signs of attraction to her. Also why the fuck would a brother hold onto her sister's short and place his hand in a way like he is grabbing her? lmao heck, he even said he doesn't needs an excuse to grab her ass. Also there seems to be a deleted scene about the motel bed, where he says he wants to sleep with her to push his face into her chest. The guy ain't normal at all, I don't get why yall keep tryna defend him lmao. Just another unhealthy obsession, that is well hidden.

Andrews semi sexual actions, get amped up to straight up sexual. i was going to insert a book worth of argument, but then i realized that this games has multiple endings, and most of my argument stood from the ending where Andrew doesn't fancy Ashley. so, in a more general sense, you're probably in the right. but i can't leave my comment at that, i need to somehow defend Andrew, and i will do that by trying to show why i think that he isn't just close to Ashley to fuck her. so, my attempt:
i feel like cutting down Andrew's character to just following Ashley for pussy is a bit of a miss understanding of his character, Andrew holds onto Ashley because at the end of the day it's the only thing he can do. if he decides to leave Ashley and try to live a normal life, he is a cannibal murder on the run alone, but with Ashley's trinket and Ashley herself, he is a cannibal murder on the run (with a chance of not being caught).
i feel like Andrew has this sick obsession of Ashley because he sees her as the only person left on the world, if he were to lose her, there would be nothing left. so this leaves him trying his hardest to please his psychopath bitch of a sister, and that's why i even like his character that much.
now, if you didn't want to read all that, here is the conclusion: we both will probably win, since there will be endings for both of cases. but for the sake of this argument, you win. if i could upload my brain onto the internet so that you could read my thoughts and not my hardest attempt to pass them through text, then i think you would be able to understand me 12% better.
A lot of what's going on with their stagnation appears to by Ashley's fault. She doesn't want to lose her "Andy", the passive brother that hasn't really ever shown his rage. Mean while Andrew wants to burry that side of himself so deep that it could play roshambo with Satan, and Ashley just keeps dragging it back out of its grave, much to Andrews distaste. It's why the (spoiler) killer Andrew route likely even exists. She pushes too hard at some point in the future to try to keep him the same, to keep their relationship the same, and he snaps entirely.
And that is prime source of distress between them, he as it turns out don't really mind if they will be forever alone together or their growing codependency, but he hate to be complete errand boy in her hands. Ashley thinks some like "of course i cant give him any freedom and trust, he instantly will be hooked by some harlot who will steal him" hence cage in which green rabbit go in her dream sequence. And its unknown if Andrew can really weaken that mad hold on him by expressing love and loyalty to her, because she is paranoid and he is tired of that exact thing. But threatening his mother with cleaver for speaking bad about Ashley seems to be step in right way, because of how proud and pleased she seems in that route when spoke with summoned demon (opposing to how annoyed she in other route). Maybe Ashley wants him to do cruel things for her on his own will more, not after she gaslighted him into it. On the other hand, other route shows that snapping Andrew may make her reconsider her decisions and wishes and begin to try fix their relationship without pushing on him, but this time its Andrew may be too done for make steps from side
so, in conclusion, at least one of them will remains difficult to other, and Andrew need (and he will, because two routes uses that both options) to be more kind or more angry towards her
Also supposedly the third chapter (of which there are two, 3a and 3b or burial and decay) is supposed to come out at some point in 2024 when the full game was originally intended to be released.
IIRC there will be 4 chapters in total
Despite being sociopaths who kill with little to no remorse, they still remember and talk about the fact that they killed people, remember each one individually, and react to each one according to their own world views.
Compare that to a GTA game in which you can kill 50 people in a mission and your character goes home to look after his kids or whatever without feeling ever so slithly guilty or conflicted at all.
These two just feel alive, you know?
It gives me the vibe of GTA 4's Niko Bellic, who also acknowledged his crimes and thought it was fucked up.
But these two, who killed far fewer people and seem to care even less about responsibility than Niko, STILL discuss their evil doings a lot more often, and I'm all for it.
They're hateable characters; their fictional world would be far better without them; but I wanna know what happens next and how they react to it.

Another thing that Andrew is trying pass on from being “Andy” (depending on the ending) while Ashley was always “Leyley”. The duo would have been a bit less toxic if Ashley managed to grow up as well but she’s always been like this since she nonchalantly killed Andy’s friend..

glad your reviewing this, it needs more attention for the work thats been put into it, and how merciless the story is. the creator mentioned while asking a youtuber to play it, that he wanted to make something memorable, that it wouldnt be played a few times and be set down for the rest of time, and the dedication shows.

There’s no “supposedly” the place was about organ harvesting. If they’d actually had those “deadly parasites” theyd’ve been dead way before they got out, plus the parents being sent death certificates for them while they were still alive and calling is a pretty big tell.

The story and dialogue are both really addicting, and always keep me wanting to see what happens. :)

3 Reasons to play the game:
-Funny, the comedy is good, it's morbid and not everyones cup of tea, but if you like this kind of comedy it performance at minimum a 7/10 WHICH IS GOOD hell I myself would say even 9/10
-Amazing Story, you really are interested in the Watercompanie, Parents and Siblings story, like how things got this unhinged, first I only assumed that the situation forced them, but fast I realized they have always been fucked up
-Art, hate it or love it but the Art is charming in all aspects from the depressed little sprits you controle to the character Art and depicted scenes.
So yeah these 3 reasons are in my eyes why the game is good and you should give it a go, now the Topics themself you can discuss as much as you want, same for the personalities of the character, but like... the game isn't really secretive, you know what you sign up for if you read the description and if the topics are to heavy/disturbing then just don't buy it, it's the same thing I would tell people if they asked me if they should watch horror movies and other stuff.

the reason why i personally enjoyed this game was precisely of how messed up the characters and their interactions are

i was so bored of the never-ending fnaf clones that are just basically jumpscare simulators with nothing else to bring to the table, this game unironically felt like a breath of fresh air

What i like most about the game is how effective it is at delivering horror and dread. Instead of le scary monster it holds a mirror to the player and society.

Andrew and Ashley weren't simply born like this, society pushed them this way through bad parenting, nonexistent friends, and negligence into being very much convinced that the only person out there for them was each other.
From that point of view, the incest, the killing, manipulation and envy start to make a lot of sense as neither want to lose each other to "some random hussy" or to a guard at the wrong place and time.
I appreciate the video, lol. I love this game, and I love how often it's getting shared around. The plot, the dynamic, the style, the setting, the *cough incest cough* it's just great. I love every aspect of this game. Also for anyone reading this, he's absolutely right take the door on the left.

I think right now might be the popularity peak really. Now it's reached a massive audience so whenever the next chapter(s) come out it'll have some fair attention then but it's already out in the open now, it was more of a hidden gem until the last like week. A lot of the initial "wow what is this" factor has worn off for many who are now aware

Honestly a lot of the controversy can be excused because it’s fiction. It’s tragic and entertaining imo. It is also romantic (not that type of romantic, unless ur into that stuff). Your moral compass and ability to empathize with the characters really determines how “evil” u think the characters are. I’m a pretty open person so I can feel bad for both given the situation. You also might relate to Andrew or Ashley based on their personalities.

Am I the only one genuinely unbothered? Neither of them are kids, nobody groomed anybody. Toxic? Sure. But not only is it a fictional story, incest was a common theme all over the world at one point in history. It just doesn't gross me out....

The thoughts he pushed to the corner of his mind the intrusive thoughts ( most of them are retaliation to Ashley, the option to kill leyley in his nightmare is one of them, the other is where is get the knife that's he's toch in that he was thinking In kill her but changed his mind, when you go to the exit and find his dad looking without thinking when Andrew talk to him he try to act normal and left the informstion that he is was unplowed, all and anything is a memory that he too wanted to forget ,
When you look to his memory of his last girlfriend that place was a projection of what he thinks and how he uses how he remembers it is as based to created that place so that Ashley in the window is just a represent what he is not read to face
The death treats and voices messages are what he thinks that happens that funny enough he don't wanted to believe

I have been hearing some criticism about the game of brother and sister relationship in a unhealthy way. Which what i'd read was very cruel to describe on twitter in which they broke the rule of Twitter language. I'd played it and to me it's confirmed both incest and dark comedy as well. And have a confession that I had a friend who i've met at the store, who was in a relationship with his sister. It's crazy when you meet people with different bandings.

Thank you for actually being informative on this game. So many people are criticizing it but as an outsider I have been looking for ages for anyone who will give an explanation of what this game is beyond "incest game ew because incest gross". The work done on the writing is astonishing, and I think the reason many people hate it is because it talks about mental illnesses that are still taboo even in our more mental health aware society of today.
I feel like the whole trying to hold people accountable for their actions movement happening in the online world for the past few years has done some great things, but it's also caused some major setbacks when it comes to *severe mental illness* awareness. Mentally ill people do mentally ill things, and while that doesn't make them right, this whole mentality of absolutely chastising anyone who isn't acting like the model of a good person has made it nearly impossible for people to properly talk about illnesses like the ones these characters display, such as aspd, bpd and other ones with similar symptoms.
I think we need more games like this. I really couldn't care less about the incest, it's about going out there and making something that makes sense and not caring when people demonize you for it. This stuff, save for the supernatural aspect, literally happens in real life. It is better to know about how it works even if it makes you uncomfortable because it could actually help save someone. What do you think people like this do in real life? If they are ever actually showed some compassion, maybe they might not turn out like this.
I had a girlfriend with bpd and she was very similar to Ashley, though a bit more high functioning. This IS how they are. This twisted sense of intimacy, this lack of morals and being super perceptive of people's tells, especially the insecurity and extreme emotions. Like, guys, it's not just lines on a psychology textbook. People ARE like this.
We should make an effort to understand them if we want to better the world and not just scream into the void that it's messed up, because they WILL hear it and it will convince them that no matter what they do people are always going to hate them without ever being able to help it. It is always easier to be a bad person than to be a good person, and offering no reward, not even an acknowledgement, for someone's best intentions will eventually make them quit trying.

Disregarding the incest, The Coffin of Andy and Leyley has some of the best writing and characterization I think I’ve ever seen in a video game. While you’re reading some dialogue you can actually hear how the siblings are saying it in your head and it just adds to the immersion for me. This game also has the most complex and emotionally unstable cast of characters and somehow the creator was able to convey everything about these two characters and their subtle (sometimes not so subtle) feelings for each other that go beyond brotherly sisterly love. It’s gross, it’s disgusting even, but that’s the point; these are two emotionally broken people who only have each other to fall back on. It’s a very sad and complex story, and it was executed perfectly.
